The weldless frame is lightweight aluminum and features a tension-steel bottom frame that allows the engine to sit lower for better mass centralization. The bike has an offline power delivery that is smooth and strong with plenty of mid-range and top-end pull. The 449cc engine features a five-valve cylinder head and titanium valve technology to deliver plenty of power from mid-range to top-end with more “hit” right off the start. The high compression ratio improves overall engine performance even more. Yamaha Fuel Injection (YFI) is used as standard equipment on the YFZ450R to ensure precise fuel delivery. The system provides exceptional fuel atomization for maximum power, thanks to a large 42mm Mikuni® throttle body and 12-hole injector. ISC (Idle Speed Control) comes standard to ensure simple, dependable start-up and warming.
An assist-and-slipper clutch reduces clutch lever effort that results in less fatigue while increasing clutch plate pressure results in positive engagement. The clutch system also reduces the engine braking effect that allows for faster cornering, especially when downshifting. The crankcase houses a crankshaft that is ready to handle the racer’s increased demands and a counterbalancer to reduce vibration. The oil tank is also contained in the crankcase which helps to centralize mass for superior handling while making maintenance easier. Chassis/Suspension
An all-new Yamaha YFZ450R 2022 Sports ATV has a body configuration that gives the racer more room to move around during the moto. The seat is narrow in the front but wide and padded in the back to reduce fatigue. The inner lip of the bike’s wheels has been rolled in to increase rigidity, allowing for weight reduction while maintaining strength. The bike is suitable for great cornering speed. The wheels are set motocross-spec wide close to the allowable maximum of 50 inches. Maxxis® tires offer superior handling and control. They have greater ground clearance than the competition with 20 inches in the back and 21 inches in the front. The large-diameter tapered handlebar shrinks vibration and is supported by four-way clamps for maximum adjustability. The eccentric clamps and two holes in the handlebar crown allow the rider to select the standard-setting 10mm forward, 20mm ahead, or 10mm backward.
Every time riders want to get up on the pegs, they will appreciate the generous 2.6-inch-wide footpegs. Aluminum and steel are used to make the lightweight frame. The steel frame member beneath the engine is used for its strength and low profile that allow the engine to sit lower overall for excellent mass centralization and unrivaled handling. The bike is suitable for maximum durability. The brand new aluminum frame is bolted together rather than welded. At the A-arm mounting points, the front frame is as narrow as possible. It lengthens the A-arm and reduces camber changes as the suspension travels through its full range of motion.
The new front KYB® shocks are longer for increased stroke, excellent bump absorption, and anti-bottoming characteristics. The KashimaTM coating provides smooth operation and the 9.8-inch wheel travel means the racer is ready for the most challenging tracks. The bike is suitable for excellent handling. The bike has a rear swingarm made of robust and gravity-fed aluminum and is paired with a fully adjustable 46mm KYB® piggyback shock.
