All-New T-Plane Triple Engine
The new T-plane triple crank combines the low-down manageability of a twin at the bottom end, making it great off-road, with the performance benefits of a triple at the top end, making the Triumph Tiger even better on the road where riders spend most of their time. It is just one of the many features that have helped make the Triumph Tiger 900 such a success in the middleweight category. Improved character and tractability at low rpm are the consequence of the T-plane crank, which provides an all-new Tiger 1200 engine firing pulses at 180, 270, and 270 degrees, respectively. It results in one short gap and two lengthy intervals between the firing.
The new 1160cc engine is a massive improvement over the previous version, with a peak power of 150PS at 9,000rpm, 9PS more than the previous generation, making it the most potent shaft drive motorbike in its class. The engine’s peak torque of 130Nm is achieved at 7,000rpm, which is 8Nm greater than the previous model.
Enhanced acceleration and a more responsive and exciting character come from the new engine, tune, and T-plane triple crank, which also increases power and torque. The uneven firing interval provides excellent feel and tractability at the low end, and the solid triple power and torque delivery remain consistent across the entire rev range. As the finishing touch, we’ve installed the new lightweight, low-maintenance shaft drive in all Tigers. It is an efficient upgrade that riders will appreciate on long-distance tours.
Everything about this engine is brand new compared to the last one: the bore and stroke, the crank, the cylinder head, the gearbox, the clutch, the shaft, and the bevel box. The new engine has a considerably tighter overall package thanks to the redesign of every component to be substantially lighter and more compact, changing the riding dynamics.
Combined with the new, basic lightweight silencer, the result is a much-improved audio cape, complete with a unique new triple tone and bark.
The New Benchmark for Handling
The Tiger 1200 is a completely reimagined motorcycle from the ground up, with many improvements aimed at making it the gold standard in adventure riding on and off-road. These include a lighter overall construction, an industry-leading list of standard features, and improved comfort for the rider.
The new generation of Tiger is over 25 kg lighter than the previous 2021 Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer due to an extensive mass optimization programmer across the whole bike, encompassing every component. It is also up to 17 kilograms more delicate than the closest shaft drive competition based on a similar spec’d motorcycle.
Each new generation of the Tiger 1200 series has wheels of a specific size, designed to accommodate riders on a variety of terrains and in a variety of situations. For extreme off-road performance, the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer include a 21-inch, 18-inch, or 21-inch, 18-inch tubeless spoked wheel layout, while the GT, GT Pro, and GT Explorer get a 19-inch, 18-inch, or 19-inch, cast aluminum wheel arrangement. All GT versions come standard with the exceptional Metzeler TouranceTM tires, while the Rally variants have the real all-terrain Metzeler Karoo Street tires. The Michelin Anakee Wild is the recommended tire for extreme off-road riding.
All Tiger 1200s come standard with the industry-leading Brembo Stylema® brakes, ensuring a robust and progressive stopping experience. These have been chosen to accommodate the rigorous needs of long-distance road riding and the Rally models’ superior off-road adventure potential.
Using data from the motorcycle’s movement (pitch rate, yaw rate, roll rate, vertical acceleration, lateral acceleration, longitudinal acceleration), the cutting-edge Optimized Cornering ABS installed on all new models control the incredible stopping power of the Brembo calipers. It provides the optimal level of ABS intervention. Magura HC-1 levers, with their movable reach adjusters, offer smooth, progressive action and a high degree of rider comfort and control.
The Tiger’s redesigned frame, which is 5.4 kg lighter than the previous design and has a bolt-on aluminum rear sub-frame and bolt-on pillion hangers, innovations developed in response to customer input, significantly contributes to the transformation in weight and handling performance.
The new aluminum fuel tank and the wholly redesigned tri-link swing arm contribute to the overall weight reduction, as do the smaller and lighter shaft drive and bevel box.
Each of the new 1200s has improved ergonomics in the seat and tank, with the former being slimmed down in front where it meets the tank to give the rider more confidence at low speeds and in non-riding motions while also increasing comfort and control. Each model has a built-in, user-friendly two-position seat mechanism that lets the rider modify the seat height by 20mm to reach their ideal position.
The seat height may be adjusted between 850 and 870 millimeters on the GT, GT Pro, and GT Explorer and between 875 and 895 millimeters on the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer. Customers may lower their seating position by another 20mm with the help of an accessory-fit low-seat option.
The new aero screen diffusers direct the wind away from the rider and pillion, and the new, simply adjustable screen may be adjusted with a single hand.
The Tiger 1200 series’ enhanced agility and rider comfort may be attributed partly to the bike’s ergonomics, which have been tailored to each model in the range. These are 20 millimeters wider than the previous version and are designed to provide more traction and stability off-road. Handlebars on the GT Explorer and Rally Explorer are raised by 16 millimeters compared to the rest of the lineup, giving the rider an even more authoritative stance. Each model’s foot peg placement has been optimized to provide the greatest possible riding comfort and control.
A high degree of standard equipment protection is included on all Tiger 1200 models, making for a safer and more pleasurable ride. All models are equipped with handguards, and the GT Pro and GT Explorer also include an aluminum skid guard and sump guard as standard equipment. The Rally Explorer additionally has gasoline tank protection bars installed, in addition to those seen on the GT Explorer and both Rally models. To the extent that they are not already included with the models, these components are available as optional extras.
Comprehensive Technology Package
The new model raises the bar for Tiger engineering by incorporating cutting-edge innovations into the ride that improves safety, comfort, and command.
The brand-new Triumph Blind Spot Radar system, developed in collaboration with Continental, is available only on the GT Explorer and Rally Explorer and provides two vital safety features. Lane Change Assist provides a more apparent warning if the rider wants to change lanes and there is an incoming vehicle. Blind Area Assist employs a rear-facing radar to alert the rider when another vehicle is in its blind spot.
All models in the new lineup have standard Optimized Cornering Traction Control, backed by the bike’s cutting-edge IMU, to provide the best possible traction control reaction based on the current road and weather circumstances.
These new, state-of-the-art 7″ TFT instruments with an optically bonded display and updated graphics package provide the rider with all the information they could require. Moreover, all versions include the My Triumph Connectivity System, which allows for hands-free calling, GPS navigation, and GoPro management.
Up to six different riding modes are available, each tailoring the throttle response, anti-lock brakes (ABS), traction control, and suspension for the rider’s needs in a given environment. Triumph’s Off-Road Pro riding mode is only available on the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer models. It has the company’s most severe off-road configuration for expert off-road exploration, with ABS and traction control disabled and an off-road throttle map activated. For maximum safety and control in adverse weather, the 100PS limit in Rain mode has been reduced from the standard 150PS.
As a result of a design mandate that was just as ambitious as the modifications to the bike’s handling and performance, the new Tiger 1200 line-up has a unique style with a more confident posture thanks to the minimum bodywork, clean, modern lines, and a seemingly lighter front end.
The GT family now provides even more road-biased design, while the Rally family boasts even more off-road attitude and posture thanks to the new 21-inch front wheel setup.
The newer models are considerably more compact and have a thinner standover, making it simpler to get on and off and facilitating more freedom of movement while seated.
