Suzuki 2023 GSX-R1000 Sports Motorcycle – Features and Specs
Engine Features
The 999.8cc, inline four-cylinder, DOHC, compact, four-stroke, liquid-cooled engine is built with exceptional top-end performance plus mighty low-to-mid-range power.
This crankshaft still carries the heritage of Suzuki’s even-firing-order engine. Other motorcycles with uneven-firing-order engines vibrate more, but the Suzuki 2023 GSX-R1000 Sports Motorcycle produces a screamer exhaust note and delivers good, smooth, and consistent power at all engine speeds.
The efficient design makes the short-stroke engine smaller than the previous generation Suzuki 2022 GSX-R1000 with a 76.0mm bore compared to a 55.1mm stroke.
To balance the bike’s weight and achieve ideal chassis dimensions for precise handling, the engine has been moved back inside the frame.
With the unique Suzuki Racing Variable Valve Timing System (SR-VVT), high engine rpm power is increased without sacrificing low- to mid-range power thanks to a centrifugally actuated mechanism on its intake camshaft sprocket.
At higher engine speeds, the Suzuki Racing Finger Follower valve train has less friction and greater response because it weighs less than a tappet-style valve train.
For each cylinder, there are two 31.5mm intake and two 24mm exhaust titanium valves. Lighter valves allow for a 14,500 rpm redline that contributes to extremely high horsepower and responds well to finger follower arms.
Cast aluminum pistons with a diameter of 76.0 mm were designed using Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis for the best combination of weight and stiffness.
To improve heat transfer, durability, and friction reduction, Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) coated cylinders are fully integrated into the upper crankcase.
More horsepower is produced in part because the 13.2:1 compression ratio is higher. A smaller combustion chamber in the cylinder head reduces the heat generated during operation.
Suzuki’s ride-by-wire electronic throttle bodies are used by the EFI system. These throttle valves operate precisely and smoothly, and they respond quickly to the rider’s throttle grip input.
Regardless of its engine temperature, Automatic Idle Speed Control (ISC) stabilizes engine operation and enhances cold starting.
Four brand new Suzuki Top Feed Injectors (S-TFI) that spray fuel directly from the top of the airbox into the intake funnels complement the four main fuel injectors located in the throttle bodies. Higher peak power, high efficient combustion, and better fuel control are the results.
The new airbox has stacked air intake funnels for the outside two cylinders to increase peak power without sacrificing performance at low rpms. Thanks to this simple design, good airflow is possible at all intake speeds, eliminating the need for any complicated or bulky mechanisms.
Thanks to two Suzuki Ram Air Direct (SRAD) intake ducts, the volumetric flow of air entering the airbox increases exponentially as road speeds increase.
Iridium-type spark plugs burn with digital ignition, increasing combustion efficiency and spark strength. Additionally, these high-quality parts features a longer lifespan than standard spark plugs.
The engine can easily deliver a wide range of performance, including a spirited boost to the redline with the help of a 4-2-1 exhaust system. The titanium muffler in black finish with brushed stainless steel heat shield is tucked high to provide excellent clearance at high lean angles and produce a sharp, distinctive sound.
Without the need for a large silencer, the new Suzuki Exhaust Tuning (SET) system in the mid-pipe helps control valve back pressure and flow to the muffler to increase power delivery and reduce exhaust sounds.
To help the engine produce higher peak power without sacrificing low- and mid-range horsepower, the SET-Alpha exhaust valves are mounted in the balance tubes between the two new outer and two inner head pipes. They open at high engine speed and close at low rpm.
To enhance the efficiency of coolant flow through an engine and radiator, the cooling system was built using advanced analysis design. Compared to the previous model GSX-R1000, this design is lighter, more compact, and has improved cooling efficiency, using 400cc less coolant.
To channel the cooling air to the high-capacity curved radiator, the fairing is effectively lowered. At low driving speeds, efficient cooling is ensured by dual cooling fans.
An oil cooler that is air-cooled and radiator-style is placed just below the primary radiator to remove excess heat from the engine.
Transmission Features
The Suzuki two-way quick-shift system, previously exclusive to the GSX-R1000R model, is now included in the Suzuki 2023 GSX-R1000 Sports Motorcycle. When racing a motorcycle, this mechanism enables clutchless up and downshifts.
Thanks to the six-speed cassette-style transmission, riders can accuretly tailor gear ratios to suit riding conditions. With the engine still in the frame, the cassette-style transmission can be quickly removed from the new crankcase as an assembly, making gear changes and maintenance easier on the racetrack.
To shorten the length of the engine, the Suzuki 2023 GSX-R1000 Sports Motorcycle uses vertically staggered shafts, which are based on Suzuki’s race-proven close-ratio transmissions.
For more powerful acceleration, the main gear ratio is smaller than the previous model GSX-R1000.
Even with the quick-shifter in use, the shift linkage is only configured for GP-style shifting with a reverse pattern.
When a certain engine rpm is achieved, a programmable shift light on the main panel will flash to alert the rider to shift.
The Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS) multi-plate weight clutch is fitted to the Suzuki 2023 GSX-R1000 Sports Motorcycle. SCAS increases pressure on the plates during acceleration and acts like a slipper clutch during downshifts. This reduces clutch lever pull and improves engine braking.
A 525-size drive chain with a 45/17 final sprocket ratio is used to compliment the larger rear tire dimensions and save dynamic mass.
Chassis Features
Utilizing insights gained from Suzuki MotoGP chassis development, the GSX-R1000’s engine angle was moved six degrees in the opposite direction. This resulted in a 20mm reduction in chassis center-to-fork distance and a 40mm increase in swingarm length. Aerodynamics are enhanced and chassis stability is enhanced.
As the aluminum twin-spar frame is 10% lighter than the previous generation GSX-R1000, it was strategically made stronger using FEM analysis technology. The frame’s spurs are spaced closer together by 20mm to enhance ride comfort, aerodynamics, and aesthetics.
With equal braking on the main beam, the aluminum Superbike-braced swingarm provides balanced support and movement to the shock absorber, enhancing racetrack handling and giving the rider a consistent suspension feel.
A single Showa remote reservoir shock absorber is connected to a braced swingarm via a connection specially designed for racetracks. The bike can be adjusted by the rider to suit their weight and riding style with rebound damping, spring preload, and high and low-speed compression damping force adjustments.
The fully adjustable Showa Big Piston Front Fork (BPF), known for its excellent damping force control that keeps the front tire in contact with the road to give the rider good sensory feedback over a range of speeds, Provides excellent suspension action.
Riders using Brembo radial-mount brake calipers benefit from the excellent feel and powerful stopping power.
There are two ways to mount the 320 mm of floating disc to the carrier on the Brembo T-drive brake rotors. Five traditional floating rotor spools and five newly designed T-drive fasteners hold the rotor in relation to the caliper. A rider of the GSX-R1000 can apply much more braking force because of the rotor’s combed attachment technique, which increases energy absorption.
To ensure you can achieve controlled stops, the new front brakes are complemented by a 240mm of rear disc brake with Nissen single-piston calipers.
The bike’s identity is emphasized by the interlocking “R” badges on the pin strips on the rims of the wheels.
Bridgestone Racing Street RS11 low-mass tires are suitable for track days and are standard with the GSX-R1000. The tread pattern of the tires improves high-speed cornering by reducing wear and increasing grip.
Suzuki’s styling designers and engineers used numerous wind tunnel tests to create aerodynamic bodywork, which has a sleek look and eye-catching appeal. The GSX-R1000’s design, which is narrower than before, improves handling and acceleration on the racetrack, giving an immediate performance benefit.
Air pressure is strongest near the middle of the fairing nose, which is where the two SRAD intake ducts are located. Due to the smaller LED headlights, the intake ducts have been enlarged.
A reasonable 825mm (32.48 inches) seat height helps create a good rider interface, making the motorcycle easy to navigate on the road or racetrack.
You can swap out the passenger seat for an optional solo tail cowl that matches the color (available from your Suzuki dealer).
The hand controls can be easily adjusted in relation to the grip, and the new shifter and rear brake pedal can be easily adjusted in relation to the footrest. To prevent air pressure from applying the front brakes, a slot is cut into the end of the front brake lever.
