KTM 2022 150 SX Dirt Motorcycle – Features
Engine & Exhaust
Exhaust
The exhaust system, specifically engineered for this bike, plays a vital part in power delivery and performance. Furthermore, its innovative design allows for smaller ergonomics operating securely within the racing noise limits.
Engine
The sheer joy of riding this bike’s engine was enough to keep the company going. 125 SX engines may now be upgraded to 150 SX without modifying the crankshaft, thanks to several essential components shared with the class-leading 125. A lightweight powerhouse, the groundbreaking 2-stroke engine is a no-brainer.
Cylinder
The 150 cc engine is built around a 58 mm bore cylinder. Power valves for the lateral support exhaust ports have a sophisticated mechanism and a unique valve unit. The top contour of the exhaust port is finely cut to ensure optimum port timing, while the exhaust port design increases engine performance. Excellent performance is achieved across the rpm range thanks to the two-piece cylinder head and cylinder.
Crankcases and Engine Covers
The high-pressure die-casting method to make the lightweight engine casings minimizes wall thickness while retaining strength and endurance. To maximize weight distribution and riding comfort, the design places the crankshaft as close as possible to the center of gravity. The engine’s modest size contributes substantially to its lightweight. In addition, the kickstart intermediate gear has been changed for 2020 to boost reliability.
Transmission
The KTM 2022 150 SX Dirt Motorcycle comes standard with a 6-speed transmission. Modifications and improvements were made to the gear ratios from the previous model. Instead of a circlip, diaphragm spring and a screw were used to redesign the drive shaft to secure the pinion better. Another distinctive feature of the 125 SX gearbox is its “no-dirt” gear shifter. Similar to the footpeg design, it avoids dirt accumulation and ensures that the next gear is always available, no matter the conditions.
Carburetor
KTM 150 SX’s Mikuni TMX 38mm flat slide carburetor has been tuned to work with the new airbox introduced in 2019. Additionally, improved sealing and performance are provided by new intake reed blocks for 2020, which ensures that the entire system generates constant, smooth power across the whole rpm range.
Crankshaft
Crankshaft torque and revolutions are optimized for a 72 mm stroke. Using a counterbalancer shaft, it has been completely balanced and there is no vibration. Having the crankshaft in the center of mass improves agility and handling.
Cooling
To maintain a constant level of horsepower, it is critical to keep the engine at the right temperature. The KTM 150 SX’s radiators are positioned, so the bike has a lower center of gravity. In addition to looking great with the shrouds, they have a slim, ergonomic feel. To provide the most excellent possible performance, the groundbreaking system uses CFD technology and efficient coolant circulation to maintain the appropriate engine temperature. In the event of an accident, the guards on the radiators act as a brace to spread the energy around the radiators and keep flying pebbles and debris from damaging the radiators.
Chassis
Airbox
The KTM 150 SX’s airbox offers superb flow dynamics, which, when paired with the intake snorkels, results in maximum power and swift throttle response. With its evident advantages in terms of performance and protection against air filter pollution, this design is the best. There is no room for error when installing the Twin-Air air filter, which is housed in a highly robust cage. A traditional, original KTM feature, filter maintenance is simple, quick, and doesn’t require any equipment.
Frame
Using hydroformed chromium-molybdenum steel tubes, the frame is robot-welded to maintain consistent quality. For the most dynamic handling, the stiffness has been fine-tuned to function in perfect harmony with the suspension, giving nimble agility without losing high-speed stability. “No dirt” footpegs on the frame have a simple but effective self-cleaning mechanism that ensures the footpegs return to their original position, allowing you to operate the bike in any conditions. Frame guards and a high-durability powder coating are standard on the SX models. Using only a tiny amount of added weight, the aluminum sub-frame helps keep the rear fender stable and the rider well supported.
Swingarm
A gravity die-cast manufacturing process creates the one-piece swingarm for optimum strength and lowest weight. Depending on the track type, it can either have a shorter wheelbase or a longer wheelbase, depending on the need for stability. From above, you can see the swingarm’s chain measurement lines, making fine-tuning much simpler and more accurate.
Wheels
Lightweight CNC-machined hubs and premium Excel rims are standard on all SX models from KTM, ensuring the best possible balance of stability and weight. The spoke nipples made of aluminum feature an innovative design that reduces the times they need to be tightened. On the wheels, the latest DUNLOP GEOMAX 3S tires provide maximum grip and stability while effectively passing all of the power to the ground.
Front suspension
All full-size KTM SX models come equipped with the WP XACT front fork with AER technology. The air spring and damping function are located on the right side of the 48 mm USD air-sprung fork. Reduced air pressure loss can be achieved using a two-chamber design and an air cartridge on the left leg. Even if the external seal fails, the internal cartridge pressure will keep the bike upright. A single air valve and an air pump must adjust the air spring to any rider’s weight. An adjustable damping cartridge on the right fork leg allows riders to fine-tune their single damping demands according to the track conditions and preferences. To make adjustments simpler, the fork top caps have been modified (compression from top, rebound from bottom, 30 clicks each).
Rear suspension
KTM SX models have the WP XACT mono-shock, which is designed to work with the complete frame and swingarm architecture, as well as the linkage system and the WP XACT fork. It features high-quality machined and anodized components that give it an air of refinement and attractiveness beyond its purely functional nature. If you have a specific track or rider’s preference, you may fine-tune the compression to suit your needs.
Triple clamp
All SX models come complete with KTM’s trademark triple clamps. The triple clamp’s stiffness and offset have been precisely designed to meet the frame’s and fork’s flex characteristics (22 mm offset for all models). An improved front end means better handling and stability for the vehicle as an entire unit. The rubber-dampened handlebar fastening reduces vibration and provides mounting flexibility with two alternative settings. The triple upper clamp of all SX models is equipped with an hour meter, allowing the rider to keep track of how many hours they’ve spent tearing up the track and when the next service is due.
Brakes
Brembo brakes have always been standard equipment on all KTM motocross motorcycles. You can out-brake your rivals with the help of the renowned system and lightweight wave discs, which provide the most acceptable braking effectiveness.
Fuel tank
In all-new KTM SX model, the fuel tanks are made of lightweight polyethylene. 1.98-gallon fuel capacity is maintained thanks to the slim design of the gas tank. The filler cap’s internal thread makes closing the container straightforward and reliable.
Ergonomics & Comfort
Footpegs
Even when digging into deep ruts, footpegs with ‘no-dirt’ pivots keep the footpeg pivot free of clogs. What if you could ride in a more elevated position? The 2019 EXC footpegs, which are 6 millimeters higher than the SX versions, may then be installed.
Seat
SX seats are designed to suit the dynamic performance-oriented ergonomics of the KTM SX lineup. To enhance the rider’s experience, the seat cover has a silicone stripe on the bottom. A single long, lateral screw secures the seat to the bike, making it both safe and straightforward to use.
Handlebar
All full-size KTM SX models utilize the same NEKEN high-strength aluminum tapered handlebar. Rubber-dampened mountings hold the handlebar in two different positions. Locking grips are standard on the left and right sides of the ODI. The ODI lock-on grip does not require any wire or glue. They also include a bar pad with a removable cover that can be installed and removed easily.
Bodywork & Graphics
Decals
The new graphics enhance the bodywork’s high-performance look while complementing the bike’s aggressive demeanor.
