Ergonomics
The new Ducati 2019 Multistrada 950 Motorcycle is built with a long-range touring motorcycle in mind to ensure excellent comfort when fully laden. It resulted in an ergonomic triangle that provides comfortable and controls whatever the situation is. The bike is roomy and it can easily seat two people on it, even with the top case and side panniers fixed. The footpegs have been lined with new rubber inserts to dampen vibration.
Another impressive feature on Multistrada 950 is the 840mm high seat that instills an immediate sense of comfort and wanderlust. A slightly lower seat of 820mm is available so that the riders can place their feet on the ground quickly, while a slightly higher 860mm is an even more comfortable one. The screen allows the rider to adjust it with one-handed vertical adjustment within a range of 60mm. There are two new 12 V power sockets, one in the zone near the passenger seat while the other in the dashboard zone. These can be used to power items like thermal clothing, intercoms or mobile chargers.
The new Garmin sat-nav is available as a Ducati Performance accessory that is powered via a dedicated connector. There is a USB port underneath the seat that helps in charging the smartphone. The specious stowage area beneath the passenger seat has a tool kit, bike handbook or other personal items. To make the Multistrada a practical long-distance tourer, accessories include a spacious pannier and a top case. The passenger grab rail has been designed to minimize motorcycle width—the accessories for touring include heated grips.
Engine
The new Ducati 2019 Multistrada 950 Motorcycle comes with a twin-cylinder 937 cm3 Testastretta 11-degree with Desmodromic timing. It is a Euro-4 rated, liquid-cooled engine containing four-valves-per-cylinder with a bore of 94mm and stroke of 67.5mm. Engine delivers the maximum power output of 113 hp at 9,000 rpm and maximum torque of 96 Nm at 7,750 rpm with a compression ratio of 12.6:1. The motorcycle gulps in the fuel mix through 53mm cylindrical-section throttle bodies controlled by an advanced Ride-by-Wire system. The exhaust system features a 2-1-2 type with the lateral silencer and the self-servo wet slipper clutch can be operated with less on-lever effort thanks to the new hydraulic control system. The engine has a maintenance interval of 15,000 km or every 12 months with valve clearance inspection every 30,000 km.
Frame
The new Ducati 2019 Multistrada 950 Motorcycle features a solid Trellis section with a large diameter, low-thickness tubing, and two lateral sub-frame. It is closed off by the rear load-bearing techno-polymer fiberglass element to increase torsional rigidity. The new Ducati 2019 Multistrada 950 Bike comes with a minimum ground clearance of 183.5 mm and 1,594 mm of wheelbase that distributes rider and luggage weight evenly, thus enhancing the overall performance. The new lighter, the robust, shell-cast aluminum twin-sided swingarm, is painted black.
Suspension
The suspension system of the Ducati 2019 Multistrada 950 Motorcycle ensures smooth riding pleasure. The motorcycle has got front upside-down 48 mm fork with 170 mm of travel, a dedicated cast fork leg with fully adjustable spring pre-load and hydraulic rebound and compression damping. The rear section comes with a shock that connects the swingarm to the left case sub-frame; again, spring pre-load is fully adjustable, as is hydraulic rebound and compression damping. The new spring is progressive, consequently increasing ride comfort even when the motorcycle is fully loaded. The rear-wheel travel is 170mm.
The system helps keep the attitude constant whatever the road surface; thus, it helps in reducing the swaying of vehicles, riders and passengers and significantly boosting comfort and safety. The new Skyhook name stems from the unique sensation experienced during riding. The motorcycle was suspended from a hook in the sky, keeping it perfectly balanced and very reactive to any change in attitude. It is an innovative technology that outperforms conventional, passive suspension systems with the help of constant control of dynamic wheel behavior. Thanks to the intelligent DSS Evolution system, almost all the negative effects of soft or hard are eliminated without compromising performance or safety.
The DSS Evolution technology analyses data from various sensors on the sprung and unsprung weights of the motorcycle to calculate and set the damping needed to make the ride incredibly smooth. An all-new accelerometer on the steering yoke, together with inside the control unit that tracks the DDS Evolution, offers data on sprung weight. In contrast, an accelerometer on the fork bottom gives input on unsprung importance. The rear section has another sensor that measures suspension travel. The DSS Evolution processes the information with the help of a semi-active control algorithm by referring to an imagined fixed point in the sky just above the motorcycle, thus making highly rapid adjustments to the hydraulic dampers to reduce vehicle movement with this point.
To smooth the load transfers associated with acceleration and deceleration, the system uses Ducati Traction Control (DTC) longitudinal acceleration sensor, ABS pressure detectors, and data from the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) that dynamically reveals the motorcycle’s attitude.
Tires and Wheels
The new Ducati 2019 Multistrada 950 Motorcycle features redesigned wheels that reduces overall weight by 500g as compared to the previous model. The wheels measure 3-inch x19-inch at the front and 4.5-inch x17-inch at the rear and mount the Pirelli Scorpio Trail II tire.
The tire offers a perfect blend of off-road riding capacity and more excellent road performance because they are designed for the most demanding riders. In addition, it includes high mileage and consistent performance throughout the life-cycle and first-class implementation in the wet.
An innovative tread pattern on the Scorpion Trail II combines the off-road riding approach that is applied across the Scorpion line with the experience gained by Pirelli in developing the Angel GT, Pirelli’s best sport touring tire being considered the segment benchmark. The side grooves of all-new Scorpion Trail II tires are designed to guarantee optimal drainage in the rain. In contrast, the layout and shape of the central tracks not only boost water drainage performance but it ensures better traction, outstanding stability and more even wears.
As compared to the predecessor, i.e., the 2018 Ducati Multistrada 950, the new tires ensure higher mileage with affecting cornering performance and ensure outstanding wet-weather performance. The Scorpion Trail II profile derives directly from those used on the famous Angel GT. Thanks to a shorter, wider contact patch, the profile helps in reducing and even out tread wear, thus resulting in mileage. The new profiles have improved handling that remains consistent throughout the product life-cycle.
Brake System with Cornering ABS
The new Ducati 2019 Multistrada 950 Motorcycle features a Brembo braking system with an ABS 9.1ME Cornering device, an essential part of the Ducati Safety Pack (DSP). The Bosch Cornering ABS ensure the use of the Bosch IMU (Internal Measurement Unit) platform to enhance the front and rear braking power even in a most critical situation and with the motorcycle at numerous lean angles. With the help of interaction of Riding Modes, the system offers solutions suitable for any situation or riding condition.
Thanks to the ABS control processor, the new Ducati 2019 Multistrada 950 Motorcycle uses an Electronic Combined Braking System. It is optimized for Urban and Touring Riding Mode but has a lower degree of intervention in Sport Mode, where fully automated control is less desirable. The combined braking system increases stability with the help of four pressure detectors to allocate braking power optimally between the front and rear.
The new Ducati 2019 Multistrada 950 Motorcycle comes with Brembo M4-32 monobloc radial calipers with four 32 mm diameter pistons and two pads, a radial pump with adjustable levers and dual 320 mm front discs. The rear section has a 265 mm disc gripped by a floating caliper, again by Brembo. Such components ensure ultimate performance, a feature that has always been a Ducati hallmark.
