Appeared two years ago, the Triumph Tiger 800 quickly was essential like the reference of the road trails of rolled average. But it was not counting the response of BMW with its new BMW F700GS. Duel at the top… of the facility!

A match 100% European!

Once more, they are the manufacturers of the Old continent who make the news. Indeed, if the Japanese knew their hour of glory on the market of the trails, force is to note that they somewhat forsook the crenel, especially in the category of the average cubic capacities.
We thus oppose today new German BMW F700GS to the English one who has put everyone on the agreement for two years, bright Triumph Tiger 800. Yes, one 700 vis-a-vis one 800…

The fairies of marketing have mild ideas natters, sometimes: after us to have revealed a BMW F650GS which cubed actually 798 DC, here they repeat while evolving the model in virtual cubic capacity…!

The “false 650” thus evolves in “false 700” but preserves the parallel twin-cylinder common to BMW F800GS, the “big sister” a little more powerful and directed towards any ground.

700 glean on the way 4 horses and 0.2 kg of couple compared to the 650. BMW has also slightly shortened the gear ratio of drive chain for accelerations plus sharp. Outside, the BMW F700GS 2013 is recognized, thanks to its second disc of brake, its more sharpened esthetics and its ABS from now on series.

On its side, Triumph Tiger 800 has had success deserved for two years (to read our Interview gone 2011: Triumph France). This ultra general-purpose machine enchants all those which test it and thanks to its single 3-cylinders and its great facility of catch in hand.

The German will not have to spare her sorrow to assert herself in this comparative vis-a-vis dashing English. Because the BMW F700GS 2013 at the beginning already show a handicap of 19 horses compared to its competitor, for a price hardly low. With 9,200 €, the BMW and its ABS of series are as expensive as Triumph Tiger 800 without ABS (9250 €), an invoiced option 600 Euros in the Triumph concessions.

But Boehme has other arguments to put forward: if she inherits the extreme facility of catch in hand of fire F 650 GS and manages to correct her rare defects, the combat could be tight…

As too often currently at Triumph, Tiger 800 takes a starting point certain expensive aesthetic codes to the German brand: rough back the “of foundry” seems directly taken on an R 1200 GS.

On its side, the BMW F700GS 2013 resembles more to his/her cousin roadster F 800 R than with a large road trail. Visually, Triumph crushes its gauge developing the slender BMW which hides extremely well its – almost – 800 DC.

BMW F700GS vs Triumph Tiger 800 – European class

The quality of materials and the assemblies is very correct on each motorcycle. And if the plastics are omnipresent, they are fortunately of good invoice. One also finds this small “more” developing distinctive majority of the European motorcycles, like the presence of braided hose connections of brake.

However, the recourse to the catalog of the options remains essential in the two manufacturers. It from there will thus profit from a central crutch, a high bubble or even of the heating handles and protect-hands. An approach towards a little skinflint, especially on this level of price… Not counting at Triumph, it is also necessary to put on the glove again to the pocket for ABS (+600 Euros).

On BMW F700GS 2013, for the same price that ABS Triumph, it are possible to improve the active security while choosing controlled suspensions ESA, the anti-skid ASC and the pressure gauge of tires TMPS, three options suggested in the Pack “Security” with 595 Euros.

In spite of their recent design, these two trails suffer from small gaps. For example, Tiger still does not propose warnings: damage for such a general-purpose and road motorcycle.
In a different register, the BMW F700GS 2013 is made dizzy to display its speed in a small analogical meter with the graduation as tight as illegible. It is a blow to be stupidly made flash by the thousands of radars which border from now on our pretty roads…
