Even if there aren’t as many screaming 600s in the middleweight sports bike class as there once were, the market still offers plenty of appeals. Many excellent examples are still available.

The middleweight sports category has seen a rebirth thanks to bikes like the Aprilia RS 660 and Yamaha R7, and with the constant influx of new models like the Suzuki GSX-8R and Triumph Daytona 660, the class is growing once again and more Diversifying.

MV Agusta F3 800

The MV Agusta F3 800 is a stylish, unique, and attractive luxury mid-capacity sports bike. It’s equally sophisticated and boisterous on the road and the racetrack.

A larger, more powerful, and generally more efficient 798cc triple-cylinder engine replaces the 675cc engine, giving the F3 a smooth 147bhp to outrun its rivals and even keep up with the 1000cc big boys. Power is gained.

Driven by a pleasant burst of solid torque, the MV Agusta F3 800 may not be as quick and sure-footed as the less powerful but still spirited Aprilia RS 660, but if you’re looking to strike a deal that makes you both feel special. And excited, the F3 800 is the clear winner — even at £14,840.

Zero SR/S

The Energica Ego is currently at the more expensive end of the purely fair spectrum despite being the first to suggest that an electric bike and a sports bike could co-exist in a fast-paced way.

Because of this, Zero Motorcycles — another “veteran” electric two-wheel brand — has been tasked with creating the Zero SR/S, an EV sports bike that’s a little less demanding.

The Zero SR/S is a tastier, more spacious version of the well-researched, albeit aging, SR/F roadster. It distinguishes itself from its sister model, but its chunky bodywork and old headlight finish make it look much more tame.

It’s not a good first impression, to be sure, especially if, before you know it costs £23,995. Its higher price makes it the priciest model in our top 10, but you’ll make up the difference in lower operating costs. However, the Zero’s closest rivals, the Honda CBR650R and Kawasaki Ninja 650, are fully £16,000 less expensive than the Zero; you’d have to be an environmentalist to justify such a huge price difference.

KTM RC390

Up next on the list of Top Ten Best Middleweight Sports Motorcycles in 2024 is KTM RC390. Although it currently competes in MotoGP, it hasn’t had a truly powerful sports bike in its lineup since the RC8 990cc V-twin superbike, which was once an eccentric but has since become a cult classic. KTM hasn’t given up on racing entirely, as the RC 390 and smaller RC 125 low-end learners deliver legal thrills.

Even better, an all-new second-generation model with more generous equipment levels and cleaner looks, including colorways inspired by its MotoGP efforts, is now available in the UK.

Less significant interior changes have been made, so the powerful 44 horsepower 375cc single engine is still housed in a small, slimline chassis. The KTM RC390, previously limited by its small size and limited ergonomics, has improved significantly and is practically unbeatable regarding speed on tight and winding B-roads. It is worth it.

Honda CBR650R

It’s entirely intentional if Honda’s reasonably priced, four-cylinder middleweight sports model makes you think of the legendary all-round prowess of the CBR600F, which was so loved in the 1990s.

It was intended to bring back the essence of the original CBR600F and was a more accessible, beginner-friendly alternative to the then-exciting supersports CBR600RR. It was successful because of its unique sporting prowess, affordability, and practicality.

Additional changes were made in 2014 (from 650cc) and 2017 (more power and other refinements). In 2019, the vehicle was called the Honda CBR650R and received styling that was similar to the CBR500R above. It’s also a huge success, as it kept prices affordable, added a four-cylinder engine, and combined Honda’s engineering prowess with just the requisite Fireblade bliss.

Kawasaki ZX-4R

When demand for the four-cylinder 600cc model died out, Kawasaki was among several manufacturers that almost completely scrapped their middleweight sports offerings, essentially leaving only the Ninja 650. The recently launched, reasonably priced ZX-4R series includes RR and SE versions.

It’s not a complete throwback to the era of the 400cc four-cylinder monster class, but it still packs 79 horsepower and offers the feature everyone misses most from vintage middleweight super sports machines: sound. Track.

The ZX-4R may not be the fastest or the most torquey, but at £8,699, at least from the dealer, it’s hard to argue against its affordability, and you can be sure you’ll get a ride in it. It will be a lot of fun.

Suzuki GSX-8R

Up next in the list of Top Ten Best Middleweight Sports Motorcycles in 2024 is the Suzuki GSX-8R. In 2023, the Suzuki GSX-8S debuted alongside the Suzuki V-Strom 800 DE, which featured an all-new Suzuki engine that was already groundbreaking.

In its lower rpm ranges, the new 776cc 270-degree parallel twin has a torquey quality that we found enjoyable, and this quality is an excellent complement to the GSX-8R launched last November.

While we haven’t had a chance to ride the 8R, we expect this next Suzuki sports bike, expected to retail at £8,999, to be the best in the middleweight class given its pedigree from the 8S. I will count. In this sense, it is pretty competitive with its competitors as well.

Yamaha R7

The Yamaha R7 is here to stay, and the Yamaha R6 is gone.

In 2020, Yamaha downgraded the brilliant but pricey R6 to Track-only RACE trim when it initially resisted the SuperSport class sweep claimed by its rivals, Suzuki and Triumph.

However, with the introduction of the R7, which serves as its genuine replacement, Yamaha’s rich ‘R’ sports bike lineup continues. They have very little in common. The Yamaha R7, for example, is better characterized as a “hot” sports bike due to its 682cc engine, which minimizes noise while still producing a respectable 72.3 horsepower. It also does an excellent job of emulating its attractive ride qualities.

Furthermore, if the performance figures and controversial looks bring tears to your eyes, the Yamaha R7’s £8,200 price tag — almost £4k less than the R6 — should quickly extinguish them.

Kawasaki Ninja 650

The Kawasaki Ninja 650 is a mid-weight sports bike with twin cylinders that is suitable for beginners. While its stats may not be as impressive as those of its rivals, you’ll find an attractive, energetic, and hot sports bike on closer inspection.

The price of the 2023 MY Kawasaki Ninja 650 has risen to £7,649 following the recent round of annual changes. Even so, it’s still a high-quality vehicle with plenty of excitement from its 67bhp 649cc twin-cylinder engine, enough to guarantee it lives up to its storied Ninja heritage.

The Ninja 650, which thrives on high speed, combines this with a balanced chassis that isn’t as refined as the ZX-6R yet makes for a pleasant ride on twisty terrain.

Triumph Daytona 660

After much speculation, the Triumph Daytona 660 was unveiled in early 2024. The new Daytona has a powerful underpinning thanks to its 660cc three-cylinder engine, which it shares with the Trident 660.

Like the previously mentioned GSX-8R, we have yet to ride the Daytona 660, but we know the Trident 660 can compete with bikes like the Yamaha MT-07 and Kawasaki Z650. Considering this, we see no reason why the Daytona 660 cannot succeed in the middleweight sports market.

With 95 horsepower available for £8,595, the new Daytona is indispensable in this class, even if it’s slightly ahead of the pack.

Aprilia RS 660

Next in the Top Ten Best Middleweight Sports Motorcycles list in 2024, we have Aprilia RS 660. The Aprilia RS 660 has been the talk of the motorbike world lately, so when we finally got the chance to show it off at the official press premiere, let’s say it had the hype.

The Aprilia RS 660 has a potential to be extremely important for several reasons. It does not directly compete with the ZX-6R/R6 downsized superbike for the street model, but with 100 horsepower and at 169 kg, it is more potent than the 650 Ninja/CBR650R, but at a higher price.

The result is a model that deserves a niche in the market and may inspire other manufacturers to move things in the direction of its lightweight, responsive, usable power and excellent handling models. However, Aprilia raises the bar a bit higher by packing in a ton of innovative technology to rival its RSV4 big brother.

A lot is riding on the RS 660 as it will spawn a whole family of models, like the Tuareg ADV and Tuono barebones, but Aprilia can rest easy knowing that not only has it nailed it, but it can. It saved the whole class!
