At this beginning of New Year’s Day, the hour is with the assessment of the market scooter 2012. Assessment gone scooter 2012: Trends and rankings

The year 2012 was not the year of ostentation for the two-wheeled vehicles motorized in France. The market (all rolled of more than 50 confused Cm3 and kinds) is in fold of – 8.7 % (it was of – 6.7 % at the end of 2011), with 157,995 run out units, except motorized Piaggio MP3 and others 3/4 wheels of more than 125 Cm3 accessible to the license B car. Insofar as it were sold almost as many scooters with three-wheeler this year than the previous year (either 11,036 vehicles in 2012, against 11,290 in 2011), if one now counts the figure of these tripods in the final assessment, the fall can be brought back to – 8.2 %.
For 2012, this new fold is once again and in very great ascribable part with less than 125 Cm3 (motorcycles and scooters) which record a regression of – 28.6 %, to put on the 7 hours formation imposed to the holders of the license B, which cannot enjoy as a result a full equivalence and without constraints to reach the 125 Cm3.
Also let us note that the renewal of the offer of less than 125 Cm3 was not very carrying. In 2012 like the previous years, the motorcycles of a cubic capacity higher than 125 Cm3 which are left their best, with a fall of the registrations of “only” – 1.7 % (whereas they were still in the green the year spent with + 3.5%)

Scooter 125 and three-wheeler: The customers prefer to make last their vehicle

The market of the 125 Cm3 still does not manage to go up the slope of 7 hours the obligatory formation. It drops by 18.9% like in 2011 or almost. The motorcycles are touched even than the scooters: – 24.6% against -16.9%. As a whole, the manufacturers and the observers – as the Observatory of the Two Three Wheels of PAGES – do not believe in a resumption of the sales on this sector. At most one must expect maintenance of the market of the segments known as practical, namely the utility scooters 125 and motorcycles.
At the time of accounts, with 6,441 units one notes that Yamaha X-max remain the two wheels the most sold in France, all confused categories. In top 10 of these national sales also two other scooters appear 125 Cm3: Honda PCX, 3rd of the sales with 4,096 units and Piaggio X-Evo, 10th with 2,276 units.
The market of the motor tricycles is in light fall, and it should be recognized that the very good sales of Piaggio MP3 knew their hours of glory. The crisis does not support the renewal of the park with customers who prefer to make their vehicle last. As for Quadro, the Italian brand of scooter with 3 and 4 wheels must still show its mettle vis-a-vis the giant Piaggio, installed very well, as indicate it here the registrations 3 wheels 2012:

  1. Piaggio MP3 500 LT – 7,618 units
  2. Piaggio MP3 Yourban 300 LT – 1,224 units
  3. Piaggio MP3 300 LT – 847 units
  4. Quadro 3D 350 – 673 units
  5. Piaggio MP3 400 LT – 404 units
  6. Piaggio MP3 Yourban 125 RL – 168 units
  7. Piaggio MP3 125 RL – 98 units
  8. Piaggio MP3 250 LT – 3 units
  9. Piaggio MP3 Hybrid 300 LT – 1 unit

Total 3 wheels: 11,036 units (Market shares: Piaggio 93.9 % – Quadro 6.1 %)

Market 2012: the year of the maximum-scooter

To the most 125 Cm3, if the motorcycle drops by 6.4%, the scooter goes well, with a progression of 36.9%. This seems to translate the need for practical modes of displacement and the rise of the commuters, segment on which many innovations arrived in 2012 (Yamaha TMAX 530, Honda Integra 700, scooters BMW C650 GT and C 600 Sport…). The new A2 license with automatic mention undoubtedly will make it possible to meet more still these specific needs.
Feet and wheels, Yamaha TMAX is at the top of the category of the maxis progressing even thanks to the arrival of the new model at the beginning of the year. Thus 5,087 models of the Yamaha TMAX 530 were registered, and 1,384 Yamaha TMAX 500 found purchaser. The expected competitor, BMW C 600 Sport, did not succeed in disputing the hegemony of king T max, obviously penalized by the late deliveries (537 units). Moreover one even notes that the BMW customers prefer the model GT, sold with 644 specimens this year. Lastly, Honda Integra 700 facts a beautiful entry with 1,062 registered vehicles, as for Aprilia SRV 850, its volumes of sales can be compared with volumes of fire Gilera GP 800 (during its happy new years), adding up in 2012 485 units.

Assessment gone scooter 2012: Trends and rankings

The segment 50 Cm3 strongly impacted: – 13.1 %

With 127,243 units, the market of the 50 Cm3 undergoes a fall of 13.1%: the auto-cycles with gear box record a strong fold (- 21.1%) while the scooters of 50 Cm3 regress all the same at 12.1%. Indeed, with the rise of the numeric recreations for example, they note that the registrations in the rural areas show for the first time a consequent fall, which is worrying because these young people who do not choose the two-wheeled vehicle any more are now likely to be diverted in a more or less final way of it.
The segment of the 50 Cm3 also suffers from a lack of renewal of the offer of the manufacturers, who start not to more have enough sales to absorb the development cost of new models.
