Ducati 2017 Superbike Panigale R – Specification and Pictures
Engine
The all-new Ducati 2017 Superbike Panigale R features the powerful engine providing the best performance. The new clutch cover, cylinder head covers, and oil pans are all cast in the golden-color magnesium alloy to guarantee the strength and low weight. It has the fully electronic Ride-by-Wire system providing the best riding experience. The absence of the mechanical connection between the throttle bodies and twist grip allows the engine ECU to deliver power by directly adjusting the throttle. The Ride-by-Wire makes it possible to have different power and delivery based on the selected Riding Mode, to change the level of engine back-torque. The main bearing is lubricated by the pressurized oil through ducts inside the engine block. It ensures an efficient lubrication of crankshaft. The lube pump rapidly recovers the oil and it is placed in the connecting rod compartment under vacuum. This pump is driven by the gears built-in special high-strength techno-polymer. It maintains the crankcase area below the pistons in controlled conditions of constant vacuum. The new crankcase is produced the vacuum casting technology i.e. Vacural. It ensures the high strength at the low weight with the uniform wall thickness. It is designed in a way to incorporate the water jackets around the cylinder barrels. This design enables the head to be fastened directly onto its crankcase. The thin structure of cylinder barrels allows efficient transfer of heat to the coolant. Thanks to the new bearing, which lets the use of large-diameter crankshaft journals in order to maximize rigidity and mechanical strength. The new centrifugal decompressor is placed at the end of exhaust camshaft of each cylinder head. It allows the cam opening lobe profile to be modified by slightly lifting the valve so that part of combustion charge can escape the chamber during the compression phase. When an engine starts, an associated centrifugal force modifies the decompressor. The much smaller lighter starter motor and battery are used to reduce the compression effect of the piston. The all-new Ducati 2017 Superbike Panigale R uses the 1198cc Superquadro engine featuring the last racing-derived technology. The precisely handled lightweight crankshaft, two-ring superbike pistons, titanium valves and connecting rods provide an ultimate performance. It provides the output of 196 horsepower with aggressive and immediate power delivery. This engine is optimized for best performance and long maintenance intervals. The mixed gear and chain drive system have been used to control the large valves and Desmodromic system. This chain drive efficiently transmits the motion between the crankshaft and camshaft. The automatic tensioning adjustment provides an excellent reliability with the low routine maintenance costs. This engine provides the best performance as compared to the older models of Ducati Panigale R. The new Ducati 2017 Superbike Panigale R comes with the six-speed gearbox shafts offering the best use of gears with an increased diameter and excellent strength for the transmission of power. The oil bath clutch is quite similar to the design used in other Ducati bikes.
Chassis
The all-new Ducati 2017 Superbike Panigale R features the Panigale’s Monoscocca chassis, which is compact, rigid and light in weight. It is cast in aluminum and is attached at the rear directly to the heads of an engine and features the steering head and bearing at its front. The mono Scocca serves as air box and it contributes to minimizing the overall weight. Under the frame, there is the throttle bodies and fuel circuit complete with injectors providing the revolutionary advancement. The new Ducati 2017 Superbike Panigale R and the Ducati 1299 Panigale S features the Marchesini tri-W spoke forged aluminum wheels. These wheels have an eye catching racing style and they are strong and light in weight. The new Pirelli’s Diablo Supercorsa SP tires are being used providing the best ride. The new 120/70 ZR17 at the front and 200/55 x ZR17 at the rear is being used to effectively transmit the power to the ground. The rear tire maximizes the area contact and corner speed by combining the 200 mm width with the high profile. The Pirelli’s experience of Superbike World Championship has been used in manufacturing the tires. They feature the rigidity under extreme braking and ensures the maximum contact point with the ground. The special double compound that uses the advanced polymers helps in quick heating of tires to ensure the constant grip. This Ducati Sports bike features the modified geometry to achieve the minimum air drag. The steering angle of 24-degree provides an incredible agility, while the wheelbase is kept 5mm longer as compare to the 1299 Panigale for maximum speed. It provides the degree of freedom to the rider by providing an adjustable swingarm pivot. The ergonomics of Ducati 2017 Superbike Panigale R ensure the perfect integration between the rider and motorcycle. The handlebar and seat position are optimized to offer the max control and comfort during the ride. The switchgear and the design of dash are kept simple to provide information in one glance. The new aluminum foot pegs are carefully designed to offer the max comfort.
Equipment
The new Ducati 2017 Superbike Panigale R comes with the number of incredible and quality components to ensure the best performance. It uses the new Bosch Inertial Platform which is centered on an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). This unit monitors the lean angle and pitch and it interfaces with the ABS, DWC and the new Onlins Smart EC suspension to ensure the maximum effectiveness. This sport features the lightweight but quality components to minimize its weight like the one used in 2017 Ducati 1299 Superleggera. The mudguards, cockpit pieces, heat shield, exhaust caps and heel guards are crafted from the highest-grade carbon fiber for lightweight strength. The light and most advanced battery with Lithium-ion technology is used. The EBC (Engine Braking Control) system ensure the best performance and for this purpose, it works with the slipper clutch to prevent and manage any locking of the rear wheel. The rider can select the braking force with three different level available. The latest generation of Bosch 9.1 MP ABS comes as standard to ensure the shorter braking distance. This system interfaces with the Bosch Intertial Control platform allowing the maximum braking. The LED lights are used for an ultimate light output. The double LED lights are used at the rear. The latest generation DDA+ GPS is being used. This system automatically detects the lap time and stops. Its integration with the GPS provides the visualization of the circuit map. The DQS (Ducati Quick Shift) is the race-derived electronic system that monitors the shifting of a gearbox in up and down direction. It allows the up shifting to be made under full acceleration without any use of the clutch. This system also allows the clutchless downshifting allowing the rider to concentrate only on braking. The instrumental panel uses the full TFT display, its color display configuration is variable and it automatically adapts the variation in environmental light. This bike comes with three different riding modes i.e. Race, Road and Wet riding modes. In Road and Wet riding mode, the speed is shown in the center of the panel and two boxes provide the supplementary information. In Race riding mode, the layout is automatically reconfigured showing last lap time at the center while other boxes show the speed and other information. Ducati has used the lean angle visualization for the first time. It enables the riders to see their achieved lean angle. The latest generation of DTC EVO (Ducati Traction Control EVO) system monitors over slipping of rear tires plus it operates on the basis of eight different level of interventions. The new DWC EVO (Ducati Wheelie Control EVO) monitors the wheelies and intervene to control them. The latest generation of Ohlin suspension comes with the NIX30 fork, TTX36 shock, and new steering damper. They offer the competition-level damping and vehicle control. The new homologated Akrapovic titanium exhaust with silencers and tubes provides the beautiful look. The handlebar auxiliary control buttons allow the rider to easily use them. Using these buttons, riders can easily tune the bike.
