The entire aesthetic successfully combines a sparkling mood with a timeless rebellious spirit. It’s not surprising that a handsome badass would ride one of these bikes, considering how popular Triumph Bonneville motorcycles have been with Hollywood’s top stars.

How the engine pieces fit together shows that Triumph didn’t just produce high-quality parts. They went above and beyond to make some parts look fantastic, and they showcased those parts to highlight their skill and labor of love. Twin chrome exhaust systems frame the attractively designed internal mechanical workings in a striking, gleaming frame. It is a mechanical marvel of wrought iron. I’m not sure if I should ride the bike or put it on display so everyone can see how shiny its parts are.

It has terrific lighting. The traditional and recognizable spherical nacelle LED headlamps feature the Triumph T emblem artfully placed in the middle. Turn signal lights usually scare me, but the Triumph does it well for whatever reason. The designers of the Bonneville line did an excellent job of balancing the lighting layout so that each light is visible in its proper place. Deep foam cushions on the seats provide exceptional support. The riding position is comfortable, low, and comfortable. I was grateful for the lumbar support on my journey to the Mojave. The seating arrangement is perfect for the passenger seat and provides plenty of room to stow bungee cords and gear.

The only problem with the seat was that I often had to change my position. I usually felt like I was sitting too far to the left or right of the bike, but this is only noticeable when you first ride. Keeping my flat feet around the front of the bike felt natural. Gear changes were easy, and the bike’s smooth foot space and movement were ideal for both takeoffs and stops. In reality, a dashboard is not a dashboard. Even though the onboard interface has a simple, attractive look, it functions like a clip-on analog gauge. There must be more to see when checking speed and general bike status indicators.

The small digital screen allows you to check mileage, petrol level, cruise control, and riding modes, but expect few other rider amenities. This bike reminds you of a more carefree era before all the stress and distractions of modern life. The comfortable beach bars were ideal for me as a 5’11” rider with long, thin arms. Traditional spherical mirrors provide a perfect view of the past environment while reflecting the coolness of the past. It’s the only bike I’ve ridden where I have yet to consider removing the mirrors to look more stylish. The 2023 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster Café Racer mirrors do an excellent job of finishing off the vintage Bonneville style.

Engine and Performance

Triumph’s vintage engines have a long history of taking home championships. The most important components of speed performance are weight and strength. Even their cruisers still have a long history of racing influence. Because of its well-distributed weight, the 2023 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster Café Racer’s parallel “high-torque” twin engine feels light for a 1200cc engine. But it has a deep rumble and feels heavy. People can hear it when it reaches the city, but not too loud. At the slightest squeeze of the throttle, the two exhaust pipes roar. At acceleration, the pipes also slide and rumble pleasantly.

Power is applied smoothly and consistently, and throttle response is very consistent—there was never a shocking moment. Torque reaches its maximum at 4000 rpm, and the power curve is steady. The gradual acceleration is beneficial for novice riders who are just starting. I never felt overpowered or surprised by the engine revving.

Furthermore, the torque range fits very well with any gear, enabling strong thrusts up to 5750 rpm. Each gear offers a respectable amount of potential power. I rarely needed to shift from fourth to higher gear. Because of the large ratio, I had no trouble reaching what seemed to be top speed in third or fourth gear.

It tends to top out quickly. At 80 mph and above speeds, the bike begins to lose power, and it will take some time to reach higher speeds. But reaching speeds over 80 mph seems like it could be more desirable, given how unpleasant headwinds can drive such a bike without a windshield. And I understand. This bike was not designed to be fast. It was designed for cruising and enjoyment. Also, if you ride too fast, others will need more time to appreciate how awesome you look.

The gears shift smoothly, and the friction zone and clutch play are excellent. Slow acceleration situations are similarly easily handled. There are two riding modes: one for normal road conditions and one for rain. Rain mode offers less pickup and slower fuel mapping, making it perfect for rough roads.

In addition to variable traction control, it features powerful engine braking and almost instant spindown, which makes for excellent overall stopping power. I had to get used to the 2023 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster Café Racer’s superb stopping power over time.

Ride and Handling

When I initially went out for a ride, I was surprised at how responsive it was. It bends, whips, winds, and curls to tip motorcycles at unique angles. It is like flying like a dragon on its tail. I trusted the Speedmaster even though I had no idea what the road had in store for me that day.

In the most treacherous curves, those twin Brembo front brakes did a great job of keeping me in line. Still, I had to slow down more than usual when I entered those famous Route 66 road dips. The rugged terrain proved too much for the Showa forks to handle. It creates a visible bump that you can feel. I took to dirt roads because I feared I would damage the precious chrome craftsmanship.

I even fell in love with the 2023 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster Café Racer after surviving Oatman Highway. It is undoubtedly a very agile cruiser that easily handles potholes and short-stop traffic. It moves on the road with satisfying ease and handles with precision. It never felt heavy or challenging to manage. A low center of gravity position works well.

The steering was responsive and agile proving the fact that Bonneville lineup is among the list of Top Ten Highly Popular Triumph Bikes in the world. I felt the bike was balanced in every position I put it in. I wouldn’t mind bringing it to an advanced MSF training for sneaking in and out of cone drills with a sharp edge. Based on how well it handles alone, I would heartily recommend this bike to anyone just starting out in the motorcycle industry.
