Suzuki 2023 Hayabusa Sports Motorcycle – Features and Specs
Engine Features
The powerful 1,340cc liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder DOHC engine delivers smooth torque for effortless acceleration. Thanks to technology developed for the GSX-R1000, the crankcases feature lubrication tubes that offer 54% more oil flow to the crankshaft than the previous generation engine to help increase durability. Contemporary hardening techniques and specialized crankcase assembly hardware improve engine durability and rigidity.
To decrease internal pumping pressure and mechanical power losses, U-shaped holes in the cylinder bores allow crankcase pressure generated by piston collapse to pass through to neighboring cylinders. Suzuki cylinder coating made of Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) enhances ring seal, durability, and heat dissipation.
The three-ring aluminum alloy slipper piston is redesigned and lighter (average 26 grams). Cone machining increases strength and durability in piston pin bores. Compared to traditional chrome plating, the new chrome nitride physical vapor deposition (PVD) piston ring coating is smoother and more complex, which improves the sealing of SCEM-coated cylinders and reduces friction.
Like the crankcase, the crankshaft features high oil flow paths to improve lubrication at many critical points. Compared to the previous generation 2022 Hayabusa, the connecting rod design increases stiffness while reducing weight (three grams per rod). The crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons weigh less than previous-generation components, which reduces internal vibration and increases engine longevity. A gear-driven balance shaft is synchronized with the crankshaft to reduce the rider’s and the engine’s vibration.
To facilitate faster and more efficient combustion of the fuel-air mixture, this series of engines features an upgraded Twin Swirl Combustion Chamber (TSCC) architecture in the cylinder head. This update increases the flow coefficient by 5% to increase combustion efficiency and works with previous valve train upgrades. Timing for both camshafts has been adjusted to minimize valve opening overlap, improving low- to mid-range engine performance. The exhaust camshaft has a longer valve list than the previous generation engine. Broad camshaft lobes enhance the endurance and smoothness of the valve trains. For precise valve control, lightweight titanium valves with high-rate valve springs perfectly fit the camshaft.
In addition to using a Teflon coating on the slipper surface to reduce mechanical damage, the cam chain tensioner design reduces chain runout. Iridium spark plugs last longer than regular plugs and produce more complete combustion because each cylinder has its own independent ignition coil caps.
Engine temperature is maintained by two electric fans regulated by an ECM and a curved radiator with a compact, dense-core design. Compared to the previous generation, Hayabusa, the fairing design allows for more airflow to the radiator, improving cooling efficiency. When riding at low to medium speeds, the Hayabusa’s airflow increases by 8% and improves by about 7% when the cooling fan runs.
The cooling fan blade pitch has been adjusted and combined with a smaller fan shroud to let the cooling fans to spin down when stopped in traffic, reducing the hot air flow to the rider. A large-capacity air-cooled oil cooler lowers the engine oil temperature throughout the crankcase and is below the primary radiator.
Suzuki’s ride-by-wire electronic throttle body system that offers the same linear control as a conventional throttle but with a lighter, more natural feel, is fitted to the Suzuki 2023 Hayabusa Sports Motorcycle. To increase power at low to mid-range engine speeds, the electronic throttle bodies, with bores tapered to 43 mm, are part of a high-flow intake system that is 12 mm longer than the previous-generation Hayabusa and contains an Intake pipe, throttle body, and air cleaner funnel.
Other functions, such as cruise control, launch and lift control, two-way quick shift system, cold startup and idle speed management, and smooth service procedures, can all be precisely regulated as the ECM throttle bodies actuate Regulates. Four primary fuel injectors on the throttle bodies spray a slight fuel mist directly into the intake pipes. Besides the intake funnels, four more Suzuki Side Feed Injectors (S-SFI) are placed above the throttle body. A 2% increase in low-to-mid-range power and torque output results from the side injectors’ fine fuel mist spray on a reflective plate at the top of the throttle body.
Air supply to the engine was increased thanks to more compact throttle bodies, which increased the capacity of the air cleaner assembly from 10.3-liter to 11.5-liter. The air cleaner’s strong cover and smooth internal construction improve the intake air’s sound quality. Performance increases linearly as road speed increases thanks to two Suzuki Ram Air Direct (SRAD) intake ducts in the upper fairing that deliver high-pressure, fresh air to the air cleaner. Road speed is increased thanks to two brand-new SRAD – Suzuki Ram Air Direct intake ducts in its upper fairing that deliver high-pressure, fresh air to the air cleaner.
With a silencer designed to blend in with the Hayabusa’s overall look, the exhaust system weighs 4.5 pounds (2,054 grams) less than the original. Additionally, the silencers can operate at higher capacities and have been adjusted to produce a more resonant sound at lower speeds and when idling. Connecting the pipes to the #1 and #4 head pipes helps the four-to-two-to-one-to-two exhaust system layout to deliver more power and torque at low to mid-range speeds. The #2 and #3 head pipes are connected by a connector pipe, which works like the previous version’s exhaust.
High-flow catalysts in the center pipe and within each silencer of the redesigned exhaust further reduce carbon monoxide (CO), HC, and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. Instant feedback is provided to the ECM by two O2 sensors, enabling smooth and clean EFI operation. How the bike is ridden over time will change the color and tone of the exhaust silencer, also known as the muffler. It enables each rider to customize their Hayabusa in a way that is uniquely theirs.
Chassis Features
Suzuki 2023 Hayabusa Sports Motorcycle’s twin-spar aluminum frame and swingarm use aluminum castings and extruded aluminum parts, providing the proper flexibility and strength for the overall rigid alloy frame structure. The revised subframe weighs 1.5 pounds (700 grams) less than the previous version’s part. Its long rectangular steel tube provides excellent weight-bearing capacity. A unique internal structure of the KYB® Inverted Cartridge fork enhances compliance, which increases the suspension’s ability to absorb road shocks and contributes to a smoother, more stable ride with more excellent grip. The rider can customize the suspension response to their liking by adjusting spring preload and rebound and compression damping force adjustments on the fork.
A diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating is applied to the fork’s 43mm inner tubes to reduce friction and improve response to minor road surface disturbances. Like the fork, the internal construction of the KYB® rear shock absorber was designed to maximize comfort and stability in a straight line. In addition to rebound and compression damping force adjusters, the shock absorber incorporates threaded spring preload adjustment collars. While they are calibrated to produce a light steering feel at low speeds, a steering damper is mounted in the frame, and the lower fork bracket offers damping force to reduce unwanted vibration and steering forces.
Cast aluminum alloy wheels with seven spokes complement the Hayabusa’s dramatic design while enhancing ride feel and grip. Battlax Hypersport S22 tires, jointly developed by Bridgestone® and Suzuki, are fitted to the Suzuki 2023 Hayabusa Sports Motorcycle in 120/70ZR17M/C (58W) and 190/50ZR17M/C (73W) front and rear sizes. The compound and texture of these Bridgestone® tires help improve performance in wet conditions, dry road traction, and overall agility.
Additionally, the S22 tires offer superior braking grip and straight-line stability, providing the rider with an exhilarating and confidence-boosting experience. With the Motion Track Anti-lock Brake System (MT-ABS) and Combined Brake System, the Suzuki 2023 Hayabusa Sports Motorcycle gives the rider exceptional control over braking.
State-of-the-art Brembo® Stylema®, front brake calipers, are fitted to the Hayabusa. These calipers, designed for high-performance bikes, have a light, small, and subtle design that allows increased airflow around the brake pads for faster cooling and response. Full-floating, stainless steel discs with a diameter of 320 mm and a hole pattern that enhances cooling efficiency are paired with Stylma® front brake calipers. A single-piston brake caliper grips a single rear 260mm brake rotor. The upper clamp has Hayabusa’s signature signature, and the floating handlebar mount reduces vibration.
The handlebars are positioned 12mm closer to the rider than the previous model, Hayabusa, which significantly improves comfort, reduces fatigue while touring, and enhances handling. Rider footrests are sporty yet comfortable, about the handlebars and seat, and have damped mounting hardware to minimize vibration. The heel guards have replaceable plastic inserts that can be added or removed to update the design.
Riders can customize the shift and rear brake levers according to their preferences. The black anodized, adjustable clutch and front brake levers on the Hayabusa are designed with notches at the ends to prevent air pressure from forcing the levers inward and help the rider control. The Suzuki 2023 Hayabusa Sports Motorcycle’s subframe and bodywork were designed to lower the seat height to 31.5 inches. The rear seat is raised above the front to provide the passenger with a forward view over the rider’s shoulder.
The grab rail is positioned closer to the rear seat and is curved so passengers can quickly grasp it while maintaining a visual similarity to Hayabusa’s design. An optional color-matched single-seat cowl, which enhances the Hayabusa’s performance-oriented styling and serves as a lumbar stop for solo riders, can be added in place of the passenger seat and grab rail.
