2023 Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer Adventure Bike – Features and Specs

All-New Tiger 1200 Family

Each Tiger 1200 model is more focused and tailored to the adventures different riders want, and fresh new names match the increased capability.

Cast wheels, 19″ at the front and 18″ at the rear, and the all-new Showa Semi-Active Suspension are calibrated to deliver the ultimate road-focused adventure ride, which features on the new Road-Focused GT and higher-spec GT Pro.

With the new Rally Pro, you can ride on any terrain with excellent off-road and on-road performance thanks to the new Showa semi-active suspension, even more, extended travel, and 21″ front and 18″ rear tubeless wire.

Triumph now offers two new 30-litre tank Tiger bikes, the 2023 Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer Adventure Bike and the GT Explorer, the only cast-wheel, 30-litre tank adventure bikes in the class. These bikes complete the new five-bike lineup. With the highest level of specification and capability ever, these bikes—both equipped with the new Triumph Blind Spot Radar System—are designed to tour the world in comfort and style.

All-New T-Plane Triple Engine

The new T-Plane triple crank combines the best of both worlds: the twin’s lower low-end at the bottom end makes it excellent off-road, and the triple’s performance benefits at the top end make the Tiger even better on the road, where riders spend most of their time.

This crank has been designed to deliver all the benefits that have made the Triumph Tiger 900 successful in the middleweight category.  Theoretically, the new Tiger 1200 engine’s T-plane crank delivers firing pulses at 180, 270, and 270 degrees, creating one short and two long intervals between firings, which improve trackability and character at low rpm.

With a peak output of 150PS at 9,000 rpm, the new 1160cc engine offers a significant performance boost over the previous model, making it the most potent shaft-drive motorbike in its class. Torque is also significantly higher than the 2022 Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer, with a peak torque of 130 Nm at 7,000 rpm, 8 Nm more than the previous engine.

Along with the increase in power and torque, an all-new engine, tune, and new T-plane triple crank also result in better acceleration and a more responsive and engaging drivetrain. The uneven firing interval at the bottom of the engine provides excellent feel and trackability, and the triple power and torque delivery throughout the rev range is vital. A new lightweight, low-maintenance shaft drive, a key benefit favored by adventure touring riders, completes the transformation in every Tiger.

The New Benchmark for Handling

With a significant weight reduction, an all-new lightweight chassis, a class-leading equipment package, and completely redesigned rider ergonomics, the Tiger 1200 is set to redefine the standard for on-road and off-road adventure handling.

Based on motorbike comparisons, the new generation is over 25kg lighter than the previous Tiger and up to 17kg lighter than the nearest shaft drive competitor. It is the result of a thorough mass optimization program that covers every component of the bike.

For this new generation, each Tiger 1200 family model now has a specific wheel size designed for the different excursions that riders desire. The GT, GT Pro, and GT Explorer have a 19″/18″ cast aluminum setup for more dynamic road riding ability, while the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer have a 21″/18″ tubeless spoke setup for amazing off-road capability.

Metzeler Tourance tires provide exceptional grip and stability on all GT models, while Metzeler Karoo Street tires are fitted on Rally versions for an authentic all-terrain ride. The Inky Wild manual recommends Michelin for experienced off-road riders. All Tiger 1200 models are equipped with class-leading Brembo Stylema brakes for strong and progressive performance. They have been chosen to complement the rally models’ advanced off-road adventure capabilities and long-distance road riding.

A state-of-the-art IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) continuously measures the motorcycle’s motion (pitch rate, yaw rate, roll rate, vertical acceleration, lateral acceleration, and longitudinal acceleration) to determine the bike’s lean angle. This angle can be calculated and provided the best level of ABS. Interference powers the incredible stopping power of Brembo calipers. This system is suitable for all new models. Reach-adjustable Magura HC-1 levers provide a progressive feel and improve ride comfort and control.

The Tiger’s redesigned frame, 5.4 kg lighter than the previous design, features a bolt-on aluminum rear subframe and bolt-on plain hangers; improvements derived from customer feedback contribute to significant weight and handling performance changes.

The new tri-link swingarm, which is 1.5kg lighter and stronger than the previous single-sided setup, has a shorter, lighter shaft drive and bevel box, and the new aluminum fuel tank contributes to further weight reduction.

Redesigned seat and tank ergonomics, which see the seat narrow where it meets the front tank, give the rider more confidence at low speeds and without rider maneuvers and improve comfort and control. All models feature an easy-to-adjust, built-in two-position seat mechanism that allows the rider to change the seat height by up to 20mm to their chosen setup, allowing each rider to find their comfort zone.

There are two seat height settings: 850mm and 870mm for the GT, GT Pro, and GT Explorer, and 875mm and 895mm for the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer. Users can lower the seat position by up to 20 mm using the Fit Low Seat option accessory.

The new aero screen diffuser directs air away from the rider and pillion, and the simple, one-handed-adjustable screen provides even more comfort.

Comprehensive Technology Package

With the addition of several innovative innovations to improve the ride and provide increased safety, comfort, and control, the new generation has raised the bar for Tiger technology.

The all-new Triumph Blind Spot Radar system, developed in collaboration with famous Continental, is available only on the Triumph GT Explorer and 2023 Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer Adventure Bike and provides two essential safety features.

In addition to Lane Change Assist, which provides a more apparent alert if the rider signals to change lanes and a bike approaches, Blind Area Assist deploys rear-facing radar to notify the rider when a vehicle is coming. The vehicle is in their blind spot.

All models in the new lineup include standard Optimized Cornering Traction Control, which uses the bike’s latest IMU to provide the best traction control reaction given the riding conditions.

With an optically bonded display that includes a new graphics package, the new class-leading 7″ TFT instruments provide the rider with all the important information they need, including turn-by-turn navigation and GoPro control.

Six riding modes are available depending on the model, which optimizes rider control in all riding conditions by adjusting the Suspension, traction control, ABS, and throttle response. With ABS and traction control disabled and an-all new off-road throttle map, Triumph’s most extreme off-road configuration for expert off-road adventure is only available on Rally Pro and Rally Explorer models. This riding mode is known as Off-Road Pro. When conditions are compromised, Rain Mode, limited to 100 PS for better safety and control, is designed to provide maximum engagement.

Distinctive New Tiger Style

The new 2023 Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer Adventure Bike presents a distinctive new look. Its more upright, commanding stance is enhanced by newly redesigned minimal bodywork, clean contemporary lines, and a visually lighter front end. The styling brief was just as ambitious as the handling and performance updates.

Each model family has a greater focus. The Rally family further enhances off-road attitude and posture thanks to a new 21-inch front wheel setup, while the GT family offers even more road-biased styling.

Additionally, the new 2023 Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer Adventure Bike has a significantly smaller waist and a more compact shape with a narrower standover, which makes it easier to keep your feet on the ground and provides ease of movement.
