Beyond Reason

The all-new 2017 KTM 1290 Super Duke R Naked bike features the latest engine that pumps out an arm wrenching 177 horsepower. It delivers the torque between the 6,750 rpm (140 Nm) and 7,000 rpm (141 Nm). This engine runs smoother due to its new overhead resonator chambers. It weighs only about 62 kg with the extremely slim 4-valve unit. The new resonator chambers on its cylinder heads are specially designed to polish the torque output in the lower to mid-range rpm. The powertrain runs smoother, consumes less fuel and cuts down on carbon dioxide emission by 10 percent. The sensitive nature of the engine is due to the low reciprocating weight of the crankshaft. The flow-optimized shape of the crank webs enhances the low-loss running of the crank drive. For the best motor stability, the thickness of the crankshaft’s cone has been increased by 3 mm as compared to the previous versions of KTM 1290 Super Duke R Naked. The all-new intake flange connects the throttle body to the parts in the cylinder head. It is an integral component of the induction system, and it matches the airflow characteristics of the cylinder head and camshaft. The KTM Brand has developed 10 mm shorter intake flange that perfectly caters the requirement of the engine. It also enhances the output power and widening the powerband by 500 rpm. The exhaust system is entirely made of rustproof stainless steel and is Euro 4 homologated. This exhaust system is tested primarily to ensure the best performance. It uses the new exhaust flap that contributes decisively to the smooth torque curve and first emission valves of the powerful V-twin. The slipper clutch opens when a back-torque of engine becomes too high. It also assists the rider to open the throttle. It prevents the destabilising the rear wheel chattering when braking suddenly plus it helps in the reduction of hand force when changing gear. The new state-of-the-art and machined titanium inlet valves with the chromium nitride PVD coating are the reason of the outstanding performance of this bike. The flat design is combined with the smaller combustion chamber offering an increased compression ratio of 13.6:1. These titanium valves only weigh about 39 grammes means 19 grammes less than the steel inlet valves used. The new Ride-by-wire controls the throttle twist grip movements with the help of new electronic sensors, and they activate the throttle valves accordingly using the servo motors. It also electronically translates the throttle commands of the rider into the best throttle valve positions for the current riding situation. The new twin-plug ignition system monitors the two differently sized spark plugs in each of the cylinder head independently of each other to achieve an efficient combustion and smooth ignition. It results from more power, lower fuel consumption, better feedback and lower emissions. The new forged piston structure is borrowed from the Formula one technology leading to the high loading capacity. It is extremely short and has a lightweight design, but it provides the best performance. The piston skirts have a state-of-the-art and hard-anodized finish to reduce the friction and hardwearing.

The front brake has an efficient support from the disc brake on the rear wheel featuring 240 mm diameter disc and two-piston BREMBO calliper. The braking system is fully exploited with the sportily tuned and lean-angle sensitive anti-lock braking system. The new extremely torsion-resistant upside-down telescopic fork with WP suspension provides a personalised suspension set-up. The rebound and compression damping are completely independently separated from each other. Thanks to the split principle, the left fork tube controls the compression while the right one monitors the rebound damping. The new 2017 KTM 1290 Super Duke R Naked have reliable and sensitive WP steering damper that prevents the wheel from becoming very light. The new jaw-droppingly beautiful, light alloy, single-sided swingarm has lightweight and is precisely manufactured. The rear wheel of the bike is fitted with an axle of 50 mm in diameter and is bolted with the 60 mm of central wheel nut. The design of the swingarm is optimally adapted to the tubular trellis frame for flexural behaviour and stiffness. The High-precision and eccentric adjustment are used for the tensioning of the chain. The high-quality and directly articulated WP pressurized-gas central shock absorber with an external remote reservoir gives numerous setting options for the broad set-up range. To achieve high-speed and low compression is dumping the compression and rebound damping can be regulated independently. The adjustment of spring preload can be made by hand. This bike is equipped with the harder fork spring, and the shock absorber is revised for high-speed excellence. This bike features chrome-molybdenum stainless steel trellis frame that gives the best geometry to the motorcycle. It is laser-cut, robot-welded with a brilliant surface finish. The subframe only weighs about 9 kg and the dry weight of 2017 KTM 1290 Super Duke R Naked is 195 kg. The new tailor-made Metzeler M7RR tires have best technological territory. They feature entirely new profiles, structure materials, compounds and tread pattern. The tubeless sports tires are attached on extremely lightweight, and light-alloy wheels, which are manufactured in the low pressure die casting process. It makes the overall weight of the bike much lighter; they also minimize the unsprung masses and moment of inertia. These tires offer the best ride dynamics and superb handling experience.

Beast Mode

The newly launched 2017 KTM 1290 Super Duke R Naked bike features new TRACK ride mode with the optional ‘Track Pack’. This track ride mode gives unlimited thrills. It contains launch control, spin adjuster, free engine map selection and it allows the rider to pull huge wheelies. The new anti-wheelie off this setting disables the anti-wheelie function of the MTC and lets the rider to enjoy the best wheelie session. The bike is the first bike among all KTM Bikes that is using launch control, which actively supports the rider during the running start in the track ride mode. Before takeoff, it maintains the engine rpm pitch perfect at the 6,500 mark. The launch control maintains the optimum level of engine output, and it limits the rear wheel spin and front wheel lift for maximum acceleration. The new Spin adjuster standard traction control limits the engine torque when it detects too much slippage of the rear wheel. This spin adjuster was developed for advanced riders so that they can create the drive out of the corner by using the wheel-spin. It also allows the rider to choose the nine levels of intervention of the traction control.

  • Level 1: This mode allows the advanced rider to spin the back tire at the level very close to riding without any traction control while keeping the safety net of traction control.
  • Level 2-8: These modes allows the rider to adjust the maximum wheel-spin according to the preference of rider.
  • Level 9: This mode allows a litter wheel-spin and is best for rain tires in the wet.

The free engine map selection lets the rider to configure the EFI mapping, and it results in the throttle response. This system offers the choice of 3 levels i.e. Track, Sport and Street with Track being the most aggressive mode. After the selection of mapping, the rider can also adjust the amount of slippage of the rear wheel and the wheelie mode, and it also launches the control, and it keeps it stored in the system even after the turning off the ignition.

Brain Power

The newly launched 2017 KTM 1290 Super Duke R Naked bike features fun-loving Supermoto mode that lets the rider to block the back wheel. It allows a prerequisite riding and debatably executed slides. In this mode, the ABS function remains active on the front wheel. The new Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC) is a lean-angle sensitive traction control system that reacts immediately if the rotational speed of the back wheel is disproportionate to the riding situation. In milliseconds, the MTC reduces the output of engine with an incredibly smooth and barely perceptible intervention at the throttle valves, until this system has reduced the slippage amount to the optimum proportions for the selected ride mode and angle of lean. The MTC allows three different levels of traction slip at the rear wheel depending on the chosen ride mode.

  • Sport is used for respectable drifts, and it gives a perceptible amount of slippage.
  • Street helps in the smooth, controllable and comfortable ride with full engine power.
  • Rain helps in achieving of the maximum grip in the wet.

The new ride mode technology offers the rider with the choice of three ride modes. These ride modes can be selected quickly and just with the menu switch on the handlebar.
