1. AGV

The top slot belongs to Italian helmet maker AGV, which will remain until 2023. Since 1947, AGV has produced perfect helmets, and they are best known for the legendary Valentino head. The Corsa R, Pista GP-R, and Veloce S, three of the six helmets tested since 2016 and now owned by Deniz, received the maximum five stars, while the other three received four stars. 2. Shoei

At the top end of the market, Shui is known for making more expensive, well-made helmets. Their astounding ranking in our safety evaluation confirms all of this. All 14 Shui helmets tested so far have an average rating of 4.14/5, and of their latest models, the X-Spirit III and Ryd, both received excellent scores (overall, They got a rating of 4.4/5 in 2016). 3. Shark

Standard French manufacturer Shark helmets are in the 3rd position. Over the past six years, SHARP has reviewed ten helmets, with an average rating of 4 stars. Not surprisingly, every helmet tested by SHARP scored a 4, which is fantastic. Additionally, the chin bars on both modules (including the Evo-One 2) received a 100% rating, which is highly unusual. Overall, the French helmet experts did a fantastic job.

4. Arai

The Renegade V and Axces III, which have since been replaced, received three stars, leaving the Arai down. However, the 4-star rated Profile V helped him regain some of his credibility in 2021. It’s unfortunate because they’ve had a great run, with both the QV Pro and RX-7v recently receiving the maximum five stars for safety.

Nolan Group’s flagship brand comes in sixth. The SHARP safety test gave each of the 14 Nolan helmets a rating of 4 out of 5 stars in the test. Just wow. It’s also worth noting that every flip-up helmet they tested received a perfect score for maintaining a fully closed chin bar, which is incredibly difficult. It is a convincing example of their superior design, production, and quality control.

7. HJC

HJC has been in our top 10 for four years, but in 2023, they dropped to seventh place. Still, it’s an excellent performance, mainly since HJC specializes in affordable helmets, so you won’t have to blow your credit card to get the best protection. They hold this position partly because of the five-star rated HJC FG-ST and partly because of their recent C70 polycarbonate lid, which also received five-star safety certification. The ten most recent helmets they reviewed had an average rating of 3.3/5 SHARP stars, with the lowest rating being 3-star.

8. MT

Budget Spanish lid manufacturer MT moves to number 8 for 2023 after outscoring several big boys (we’re looking at you, Schuberth, and Scorpion!) with a maximum of 5 in one of their eight recent helmet tests. 5 stars, four 4/5, and three 3/5, they are in a very strong position. When you consider that the average MT helmet costs just over £100, this is particularly surprising. A+ work, MT.

9. Bell

Although his three-star Bell Qualifier DLX MIPS and Bell RS2 have somewhat spoiled his celebrations, Bell is still doing well at No. 9, falling from fourth place a few years ago. Bell has consistently earned the highest rating of any helmet manufacturer, an astounding 4.3/5 across all 15 helmets tested. But it’s enough to take Bell down a few spots in the rankings because we value more recent rankings.

10. Airoh

For 2023, we added another Italian brand to our top 10. With their 5-star rated polycarbonate velour full-face helmet helping their cause significantly, Airoh recently tested five helmets, with an average of 3.7/5 stars. However, their helmets have remained below three stars since our 2016 cutoff. Congratulations, Iroh. Let’s hope you move up our top 10 list in the future.
