2023 Honda CB1000R Black Edition Naked Bike Review Specs Price

While the standard CB1000R is already a stunning motorbike, the CB1000R Black Edition takes things to a new level. Quite a ways out. It was created in the dark with just the purest excitement in mind and dominated by night. Take a look. At first sight, you may need to adapt your vision since, except for certain machined aluminum accents, almost all visible surfaces are jet black. Or even darker. With all of its high-end extras, it flies beneath the radar while being instantly recognizable.

The time for Neo Sports Café is over. The CB1000R is first; it has a unique and forceful personality thanks to its recent overhaul, which includes a new headlamp and an aluminum subframe. The CB1000R Black Edition, with its even more distinctive appearance, is the pinnacle of chic.

Honda’s flagship Neo-Sports Café motorcycle flaunts a slick, aggressive posture that befits its one-of-a-kind motorcycle offering. The combination of its four-cylinder engine and sharply handled chassis—complete with Showa suspension and four-piston, radial-mount front brakes—makes for a thrilling driving experience. The Honda Smartphone Voice Control system integrates with the rider’s smartphone via the color TFT instrument display, and a USB charging plug is located behind the seat. The Black Edition of the CB1000R is identical to the original model except that it has several blacked-out accessories, including a fly screen, pillion seat cover, quick shifter, and a silver tank accent stripe.

Riders’ expectations of what their motorcycles should be able to accomplish, how they should appear, and how they should make them feel have changed significantly over the last decade. Honda has always been willing to push the boundaries of motorcycle design by using its technological prowess, technical expertise, and “what if…?” ingenuity.

One such bike is the CB1000R. Honda’s development engineers reevaluated the previous model’s foundations as a hard-core streetfighter and were guided by retro-industrial simplicity when they introduced a new model in 2018. The resultant machine, dubbed the “Neo Sports Café” for its minimalist sportiness, was an innovative take on the classic Café Racer design.

It stood out from the crowd by abandoning the typical super sports–derived huge naked formula, favoring a shape that merged thrilling function with a completely new, aesthetically attractive two-wheeled look. The revived CB1000R was the result of balancing excess with the economy, giving the rider unprecedented access to useable engine power while maintaining the precision and agility of a great sports bike.

Styling & Equipment

Honda’s ‘Neo Sports Café’ look was developed with a nod to the past and an eye toward the future, leaving plenty of room for creative license.

The round headlight of the CB1000R is housed in a teardrop-shaped surround and rests backward between the forks; the radiator shrouds, made of burnished aluminum, are much more compact and angled into the direction of travel, a design cue echoed by the air box covers. For 23YM, the sinuous aluminum subframe is coated in jet black, drawing attention to the rear’s spare simplicity. The license plate holder is also as unobtrusive as possible.

It’s sure to get people’s attention with its unique appearance, but the designers also prioritized usability to be used in everyday life. A five-inch, high-visibility, full-color TFT screen is the primary instrument. It displays information such as speed, engine RPM, fuel level, riding mode, engine settings, and the Shift Up indication. The controls are located on the left grip.

The Honda Smartphone Voice Control technology is also included in the interface, allowing the rider to control their phone’s functions like calls, texts, emails, music, and GPS with only their voice. A headset attached to the helmet is required, and the smartphone syncs with the dashboard through Bluetooth; buttons on the left switchgear allow for further control. Under the seat, you’ll find a USB port that may be used to charge your mobile device.

The Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) feature is included in the indicators of the CB1000R. The danger lights flash when the brakes are used heavily to alert other drivers that an emergency stop is imminent. The hands may also be set to turn off automatically. Still, rather than relying on a primary timer, the system considers the relative speeds of the vehicle’s front and back wheels to make that determination.

Engine

The CB1000R’s 998cc DOHC four-cylinder engine produces 107 kW at 10,500rpm and 104Nm at 8,250 pm power and torque, respectively. The compression ratio is 11.6:1, and the bore and stroke are 75mm and 56.5mm, respectively. At 11,500 rpm, the redline is reached, and the rev limiter engages at 12,000. Power and responsiveness are optimized using PGM-FI’s settings better than the previous 2022 Honda CB1000R Black Edition model.

The torque from this engine is designed to be delivered with a noticeable “ramp” between 6,000 and 8,000 rpm, making for a thrilling and engaging ride. In real-world overtaking situations, it also helps with roll-on acceleration for quick acceleration.

Airflow is directed into the engine through a smooth path provided by the air box, ducting, and air filter; a throttle body with a 44mm diameter feeds air/fuel mixture into large diameter intake ports and finely sculpted combustion chambers. The intake valve lift is at 8.3mm, and the exhaust is at 8.1mm. Aluminum pistons are forged in their construction.

Exciting acceleration is guaranteed by the short gear ratios between 30 and 130 km/h. super light and helpful in handling quick downshifts, the assist/slipper clutch is a welcome addition.

The CB1000R’s exhaust improves its lightweight performance and midrange muscle. The 4-2-1 layout consists of a primary chamber fed by four shorter catalyzers and a dual-chamber muffler. The engine speed increases over 5,500 rpm; the modified exhaust sound becomes noticeably deeper and rawer.

Accurate measurement of the wasted gases is required for EURO5 compliance, and Linear Air Flow (LAF) sensors installed in the downpipes make this possible. Fuel economy is 17.1km/L while using the engine.

Engine electronics

The rider may modulate the robust engine of the CB1000R with the help of Throttle by Wire (TBW), which can be adjusted through the left handlebar and the TFT display.

There are three power settings for the engine (P, EB, and HSTC), and HSTC may be turned off entirely. The many riding modes provide unique permutations of all these factors.

The RAIN mode uses a medium quantity of EB and high HSTC with the lowest Power level. Power and torque are prioritized for the first three gears.

Power, HSTC, and EB are all set to their center positions in STANDARD mode. It employs a power delivery slightly below that of SPORT mode, softening the impact of acceleration out of first and second gear and decreasing torque at partial throttle openings.

The SPORT mode maximizes performance throughout all six gears with maximum torque and power across the whole throttle range and minor intervention from HSTC by using the highest Power delivery and the lowest levels of EB and HSTC.

The rider may adjust each of the three parameters to their liking and save the results in USER mode.

Chassis

The swing arm of the CB1000R is its defining feature, measuring 574.2 millimeters in width, and is held in place by a monologue steel frame and split-tightening aluminum pivot plates. It has a 25-degree rake and a 100-millimeter trail. The wet weight is 212kg, and a wheelbase of 1455mm. There is a front-to-back imbalance of 51.5%.

The 830mm seat height and broad, tapered aluminum handlebars provide what the company calls a “natural crouch” for the rider. There is a lot of knee space since the flangeless fuel tank is broad-shouldered yet extensively cut away.

Showa SFF-BP Big Piston Separate Function Fork is the adjustable front fork. Weight is reduced by consolidating the damping function into a single leg, providing excellent compliance, comfort, and control in various riding situations. Adjustable spring preload and rebound damping are features of the Showa rear shock.

A two-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) is paired with radial-mounted four-piston calipers biting 310mm floating discs up front and a twin-piston caliper biting 256mm discs in the back. The cast aluminum seven-spoke wheels have a 6-inch diameter and accommodate a tire measuring 190/55 ZR17 in the back and 120/70 ZR17 in the front, respectively.
