Efficiency and Capacity
Indian Motorcycle can build visually appealing engines, as evidenced by the Thunderstroke plant, but the Challenger’s Power Plus liquid-cooled 108 CI engine focuses more on durability and performance. The Challenger produces 122 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque with authentic American V-Twin performance. Even with the Challenger’s 796-pound dry weight, that’s a lot of Power. It has a relatively low top speed of 3,800 rpm so you can expect solid bottom-end performance with quick acceleration through the gears better than the previous 2022 Indian Challenger.
This year’s innovation is a slipper-type clutch that increases mechanical security by minimizing back torque before it reaches the engine. It creates a lighter pull than a standard clutch and, on top of that, a larger friction zone. It reduces the strain on your left hand while riding.
The Challenger has a top speed of 125 mph and a six-speed transmission before the belt-and-pulley final drive. The Challenger features keyless ignition and Indian motorcycles’ selectable ride modes, which let you instantly change the engine’s personality to suit the surrounding conditions.
Design
Indian Motorcycle stuck to the traditional American-style bagger design that’s more popular on our side of the water, incorporating its historic Easter egg. It starts with a full-length front fender like vintage bikes but has sides cut away to tie in the custom culture. Of course, the Challenger uses the iconic war bonnet fender ornamentation that has graced Indian fenders for nearly a century.
The new Cyclops LED headlight, recessed turn signals, and push-button adjustable windscreen are all part of the fixed, frame-mount aggressive fairing design, giving you more control and better wind protection. Thanks to the wide fairing’s adjustable air vents, you have even more control over airflow with less head-buffeting turbulence at the top of the pocket. There is additional LED lighting in the form of tail light and blinkers at the vehicle’s rear for better visibility with the outside world.
Just beyond the glass, there are two analog dual gauges. A seven-inch color touchscreen display allows you to control all the infotainment features. The Challenger has a six-gallon fuel tank, giving it plenty of mobility to enhance its touring capabilities. Only 26.5 inches from the deck, the seat offers a riding position that is both comfortable and secure. New controls with heated or heated and cooled seats make it easy to adjust while driving, even with gloves.
You can ride two straight off the showroom floor, as passenger amenities are standard. To turn the Challenger into a practical commuter and grocery-getting sled, the bags offer secure waterproof storage for various functions.
The Chassis
The sturdy frame is supported by upside-down, 43mm blackout forks with no adjustability, creating up to 5.1 inches of travel for enhanced comfort. A single Fox rear shock with 4.5 inches of travel and a spring preload adjuster is mounted out back, allowing you to dial in for changes in passenger and cargo weight minimally. The wheels are cast alloys and painted black. To provide maximum traction, they equip Metzeler Cruisetec hoops with front and rear tire sizes of 130/60-19 and 180/60-16.
A 298mm rear disc and its twin pot anchors do most of the work of holding your back end in place, while dual, 320mm front discs and four-bore calipers handle most of the work. The stock equipment bundle includes ABS as an added layer of security. Over a 65.7-inch wheelbase, the rake and tail are 25 degrees and 5.4 inches longer. It results in a touring motorbike that tracks well on super slabs and has an excellent combination of stability and agility.
2023 Indian Challenger Bagger – Price
