2023 Yamaha YZ125X Dirt Motorcycle – Features and Specs
Powerful New 125 CC Engine
Improved usability and higher mid- and top-end power from the 2022 model are only two benefits of the updated liquid-cooled 125cc two-stroke engine.
Improved Rider Ergonomics
New, smoothly integrated body panels, a narrower fuel tank design, a slimmer shroud width, and a flatter seat all increase rider confidence in demanding cross-country conditions by allowing the rider to shift body weight forward and backward for better control quickly.
Cross Country- Specific Features
Dunlop Geomax AT81 tires, an 18-inch rear wheel, a sealed O-ring chain, a standard side stand, and a fuel tank petcock with a reserve position make a bike suitable for GNCC racing.
Key Features
The 2023 Yamaha YZ125X Dirt Motorcycle was designed to meet the challenges of GNCC and Hare Scrambles competitions. The perfect engine for off-roading is the new Yamaha Power Valve System (YPVS) equipped with a 125cc two-stroke connected to a six-speed gearbox. The ultralight YZ125 standard aluminum semi-double-cradle frame is designed to be the ideal combination of stiffness and flex, making it capable of exhibiting the sporty, composed handling necessary for competitive riding.
The front KYB spring-type fork and the high-performance KYB long-travel rear shock on this Yamaha are entirely adjustable and fine-tuned for the rigors of XC racing. The ultimate GNCC racer has a suspension tuned for cross-country riding, YPVS settings optimized for racing, lightweight Excel wheels shod with Dunlop Geomax MX33 tires, a sealed O-ring chain, a standard side stand, and a fuel tank petcock with a reserve position.
Engine
The new YZ125X has a two-stroke engine, which is more powerful and versatile than the previous model year’s four-stroke engine. The engine has been completely redesigned from the ground up, including all moving parts such as the cylinders, cylinder heads, pistons, piston pins, connecting rods, crankshaft, and expansion chamber. The difference is noticeable when you step on the gas and persists throughout the engine’s rev range.
Compared to its motocross sister, the YZ125X uses a model-specific digital CDI unit, a different compression ratio, and different YPVS timing to provide a comprehensive, useable power delivery more suited to cross-country and enduro-style racing—the modernized intake layout allows for a cleaner, more powerful intake of air. The power jet, throttle position sensor, and 3D-map-controlled CDI unit included in the new Hitachi Astemo Keihin PWK38S carburetor allow accurate ignition timing.
The result is a responsive throttle with no sluggishness, a comfortable ride, and great character at high revs. Close-ratio modified Transmission gearbox gear tooth width has been increased in the updated close-ratio six-speed gearbox, and new gear ratios have been optimized for improved performance. On narrow, challenging routes, the exhaust expansion chamber’s small design ensures horizontal and vertical clearance. The radiator’s massive size and the stealthy appearance of its black louvers make it ideal for extreme racing conditions.
Chassis/Suspension
This race-proven, highly-developed frame is designed to strike the ideal balance between stiffness and flex, making it capable of withstanding the rigors of competitive riding. The lightweight square tubing used in constructing the aluminum rear subframe is removable. The Speed Sensitive System 48mm inverted KYB fork is tuned for the rigors of cross-country racing, and it has a leaf spring in the mid-speed valve to improve damping precision and rider comfort over its 11.8-inch travel.
Additionally, dependability in cross-country circumstances has been enhanced by incorporating a scraper between the dust and oil seal. The new and improved fully adjustable KYB rear shock includes 12.4 inches of travel, Kashima Coat internals to decrease friction, separate adjustments for high- and low-speed compression damping, and an entire lock oil rebound system to improve comfort. The sum of these parts is outstanding rear-wheel control and top-tier performance. Improved stopping power and feel come from a modernized high-performance brake system with bigger front pistons, a stiffer caliper, and a new 270mm front rotor featuring a 30% increase in pad contact area.
The rear rotor was changed to decrease unsprung weight without sacrificing performance, keeping the same braking power while reducing the outer diameter from 245mm to 240mm. Chromed blue Excel wheels are as tough as they are stylish. Dunlop Geomax MX33 high-performance tires in a new size enhance cornering traction, stability, and feel.
Additional Features
Riders have more room to move about on the sporty “gripper” seat and trim fuel tank thanks to the tapered aluminum handlebar and adjustable mounts. With an 18-inch rear wheel, bigger rear sprocket, side stand, sealed O-ring chain, reserve fuel petcock, and a newly adopted scraper between the fork’s dust and oil seal, the YZ125X is optimized for enduro racing and delivers outstanding cross-country performance.
New For 2023
Two-Stroke Motor Improved usability and higher mid- and top-end power from the 2022 model are only two benefits of the updated liquid-cooled 125cc two-stroke engine.
