Following the release of the improved S 1000 RR, BMW has now revealed the 2023 BMW M 1000 RR Powerful Sports Motorcycle as the cornerstone of its global racing operations. Instead of focusing on increasing output, the designers of the new M model prioritized aerodynamic efficiency. As you can see from the full news release, much time was spent in the wind tunnel and on the track to make the most of the aero package and improve it where necessary.
BMW says that thanks to their new wings, the top speed of its vehicles has grown to “189+ mph” (the legal department probably stepped in and said the precise number couldn’t be revealed). By eliminating wheelies during acceleration, the traction control is spared unnecessary strain. The mechanical grip may be maintained by keeping the weight over the front tire during the turn.
However, this does not imply that the engine has been neglected. Shorter intake funnels and Pankl titanium connecting rods make the M version of the S 1000 RR more responsive and increase flow at high speeds. Together, they produce the same 205hp at 13,000rpm and 83lb-ft at 11,000rpm as previously.
BMW’s 2023 M 1000 RR has extensive carbon fiber work and aerodynamic improvements. BMW wants everyone to know this; therefore, it intentionally exposes the carbon fiber in places like the fairings, wheels, and winglets.
We can’t wait to get our hands on the 2023 M 1000 RR, which is expected to include the industry’s most cutting-edge innovations. It is likely that in January of 2023, units will begin arriving at US dealerships with an MSRP of $32,995. For more information on the new M 1000 RR, including specifications and pricing, see the news release below.
2023 BMW M 1000 RR Powerful Sports Motorcycle – Features
The Highlights of Brand New BMW M RR
A racing engine with four cylinders and a displacement of 999 cc. There is a total of 205 hp available at 13000 rpm and 83 lb-ft at 11,000 rpm. Pistons with two rings, cast in iron. BMW’s ShiftCam technology for adjusting valve timing and lift, together with fully CNC-machined intake ports.
Titanium valves, improved camshafts, and slim, lightweight rocker arms. Small, lightweight engine with longer, lighter (85 grams/three ounces) Pankl titanium connecting rods than the S RR. An anti-hopping clutch that doesn’t do any self-boosting has been fine-tuned for racing beginnings and redesigned intake system with shorter intake funnels than the S 1000 RR to improve flow at high engine rpm.
Titanium front and rear silencers make up a lightweight exhaust system. Changes include a marginal boost in maximum speed and enhanced aerodynamics that provides more downforce even at steeper angles of attack. The front fairing carrier and M Winglets are also made of carbon fiber and are part of the brand-new carbon fiber fairing.
Engine and Chassis
The new M RR is powered by a water-cooled inline 4-cylinder 999 cc racing engine developed for the Superbike World Championship. Even at 13,000 rpm, the engine can produce 205 hp and 83 lb-ft of torque.
The highest engine speed of the 2023 BMW M 1000 RR is 15,100 revolutions per minute. The new M RR retains the aluminum bridge frame as the basis of its chassis, supplemented with a Full Floater Pro kinematics-equipped central suspension strut and an upside-down fork.
The chassis and suspension were developed with the fastest possible lap times in mind. It means the M RR’s chassis is purpose-built for the track and ideal for everyday usage on the road.
Improved Aerodynamics Increase Both Top Speed and Downforce
The enhanced capabilities of the new M RR are primarily the result of aerodynamic advancements. Never before has BMW Motorrad invested much time and energy into designing a fairing via modeling, wind tunnel optimization, and racing. The BMW motorsports division’s in-house expertise was invaluable throughout the design process.
For instance, an unmistakable carbon fairing with a higher windscreen enhances top speed and improves airflow around the rider. Another benefit is that the new fairing incorporates the protection formerly provided by the M engine covers. It is the first fairing to use a lightweight and strong carbon fiber front beam. Better access to the wiring means the M RR may have its front indicator lights quickly disconnected whenever it has to be “ready for track use.”
The new M RR from BMW Motorrad is an aerodynamic engineering wonder. The M RR achieved the seemingly contradictory goals of “increasing top speed” and “increasing downforce” because of the meticulous manufacture of all aerodynamically relevant components, all while offering the rider noticeable physical relaxation due to the much-improved airflow.
As part of this aerodynamic development, the M Winglets underwent a complete overhaul. To win races, you must do more than just go as fast as possible; you must also make the best tire-road contact possible, significantly while accelerating and turning.
The driving force utilized to elevate the front end during a wheelie is not fully converted into forward motion, making wheelies wholly undesirable from the standpoint of riding dynamics. The driver’s workload is reduced when the traction control system kicks in to forestall the wheelie. In this case, precious hundredths of a second are wasted.
The M Winglets on the new M RR’s front fairing provides far more aerodynamic downforce than previously, both while riding straight ahead and leaning into bends. Because there is less of a tendency to wheelie, traction control is activated less often. When the rider has greater faith in the front wheel’s ability to maintain traction, they may be able to take corners at steeper lean angles or higher speeds. The biker will benefit from even a slight improvement in top speed.
M Carbon Wheels
Carbon fiber, which was developed for use in airplanes and space shuttles, has also been utilized with great success in racing and is now used in BMW motorcycles. It is a super light material with exceptional strength. BMW Motorrad uses it where low weight and high rigidity are required.
The advantages of this material, which is produced in a complex process using high-pressure furnaces (or “autoclaves”), are evident, and the M Carbon wheels of the new 2023 BMW M 1000 RR are a great place to put them to use. Since a lighter bike has a lower center of spin, it is easier to steer and stop with more precision.
The new M RR’s M Carbon wheels have a clear lacquer coat highlighting the carbon fiber’s rich black shine. Updated M design graphics on the reels reinforces this modern look. In addition to the M Carbon wheels, the new M RR is now available with forged wheels.
Redesigned Rear End and Ergonomic M Endurance Seat
New rear styling gives the new 2023 BMW M 1000 RR a lighter, more athletic appearance. The M Endurance seat’s ergonomic design and the narrow license plate bracket are the bike’s latest innovations. The seat’s unusual shape provides a larger surface area for the rider to hold onto when suspended.
The benefits include enhanced feedback and fatigue-free riding. The license plate bracket, indicator, and plate lights are all integrated into a single housing, as before, and the side marker lights also act as the vehicle’s brake and taillights. Due to the compact configuration, the 2023 BMW M 1000 RR may be readied for service in record time. The LWS connection on the new wire harness makes disassembly much quicker and less complicated than before.
Updated M Competition Package
The M Competition Package combines high-end components for the racing technology enthusiast and the aesthetically-minded rider who finds the standard 2023 BMW M 1000 RR not to their liking. The M Competition bundle includes the M milled parts bundle, the M Carbon bundle, a natural-colored anodized swinging arm that is 220 grams/7.8-ounces lighter, the M Endurance chain that is coated with a durable ceramic-like material (DLC), the Passenger Package with a hump cover, and the M GPS Lap trigger software and activation code.
A brake lever guard, a lightweight and minimalistic rider footrest system, and clutch and brake levers milled from high-strength aluminum. The anodized are all included in the M milled components package. The M Carbon kit consists of a chain guard, side and right tank panels, and rear wheel cover, all composed of carbon fiber and clear coated.
