Honda released the CBR650F in the United States in 2014 as a bridge model between the more performance-oriented CBR600RR and the more accessible CBR500R. The bike underwent significant revisions and improvements in 2019, earning it the CBR650R name. Showa’s Separate Function Fork Big Piston (SFF-BP) was installed immediately, along with redesigned cams and intake timing, revised bodywork, revised exhaust, and enhanced emissions in 2021. The 2022 Honda CBR650R Heavy Bike is a fully faired version of the company’s CB650R naked bike, taking cues from the CBR1000RR and the supersport category, making it the Best Middleweight Sports Bike of 2022. Think of it as a daily rider that’s easy to live with, has enough power for the class, and handles well in canyons.

Updates for 2022
The CBR650R had updates from Honda in 2019 and 2021 but not in 2022. Nonetheless, there was a $100 increase in cost. While the stripes have changed colors, the predominant color is Matte Black Metallic.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Similar inline four-cylinder power plants power the 2022 Honda CBR650R Heavy Bike and its stripped-down sibling, the CB650. When it revs to its maximum of 80.1 hp and 41.73 lb-ft of torque, the engine emits a throaty intake noise (measured on our in-house dyno). The engine provides sufficient top-end power, is quiet at low rpm, and feels quite versatile, so there is no need for adjustable power settings.
The slip-assist, cable-actuated clutch is intended to reduce clutch operating weight by 12% compared to pre-2019 models, simplifying and relieving the strain of clutch control. While being easy to use, the six-speed transmission sometimes slipped into neutral when shifting from first to second gear at high rpm. Although it doesn’t have ride-by-wire controls, the throttle is set up correctly. This motorcycle is easy to ride because of its light clutch, smooth fueling, and sufficient power.
Chassis/Handling
In 2021, Honda replaced the Showa SFF fork with the SFF-BP fork. The suspension provides a firm and sporty ride, with an excellent feel from the front end. Remember that the fork may experience discomfort when coming into contact with more significant, sharper-edged bumps. There is no doubt that Honda kept the sport bike spirit alive in this vehicle. The Showa shock is well-behaved and efficient in comparison to other non-linkage systems.
The steel diamond frame has dual elliptical spars that are stronger at the headstock and more flexible in the spar sections, allowing for better-balanced handling and feedback, as claimed by Honda. The rider triangle of the CBR puts the rider in an ideal position for quickly flipping the bike through corners. The CBR is ready to go whenever you are.
Brakes
Front Nissin radial-mount four-piston calipers clamp down on 310mm floating discs: the rear brakes, a Nissin single-piston caliper, and a 240mm disc round off the setup. ABS is required on both ends and is mandatory at all times. The discs provide enough bite for street use, and the lever and pedal are easily understood.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
In our fuel efficiency tests, the CBR650R averaged 39.5 miles per gallon.
Ergonomics: Comfort and Utility
Clip-on handlebars provide a more upright riding position than those mounted at the triple top clamp, as seen on a genuine super sport.
Unlike its naked sibling, the CB650R, the CBR has a full fairing and windscreen to protect the rider from the elements. If the windshield could be a little taller for increased wind protection, a higher one might be repaired using an item from the Honda OE accessories catalog. The driver’s and passenger’s seats are large and cushioned for all-day comfort. The height of the chair is 31.91 inches.
Electronics
There are just two electrical features, anti-lock brakes (ABS) and Honda’s Selectable Torque Control (HSTC). Disabling HSTC is as easy as flipping a switch mounted on the handlebar. Having that extra layer of protection is excellent, even if you’re not likely to push the CBR to its limits (after all, this is a bike designed for urban use). The vehicle comes equipped with an LCD dashboard, and twin LED headlamps.
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Honda’s warranty on the CBR is one year long and covers unlimited miles. Coverage may be extended under the Honda Care Protection Plan.
Quality
The sharp, angular bodywork of the CBR contributes to its overall streamlined appearance. Even though it’s made in Thailand, the CBR650R satisfies Honda’s exacting standards.
