Handling
Excellent handling begins with a sturdy frame, and the CRF450R’s chassis meets or exceeds all expectations. To start with, it’s about one and a half pounds lighter than its predecessor. By reducing the width of the frame’s primary spars, we’re able to save some weight, and by tweaking the chassis’ lateral stiffness, we’re able to make it more responsive. Thus, the bike may enter, go through, and exit corners with increased velocity.
Narrow Swingarm
Thinner primary members and the new frame have allowed us to bring the swing arm’s lateral rigidity into line with the rest of the chassis (just as the frame utilizes narrower main spars). Better turn-in times and precision are achievable with a well-rounded and holistic approach to frame stiffness.
Lightweight Subframe
The 2022 CRF450R has a subframe around 75% lighter than the previous model’s. We also simplified the process of constructing it.
Battery compartment seal
There are three fundamental aspects to keep in mind: The placement of the battery compartment allows for a lower center of gravity. It’s also easy to care for. Third, it is impervious to water, making racing in muddy circumstances safer.
Front Suspension
To enhance damping and handling, the 2022 CRF450R’s suspension settings were fine-tuned. Don’t forget to keep a keen eye out for the axle-holding mechanisms at the bottom of each fork leg. These fasteners enhance suspension and steering precision and rigidity.
Tuned Triple Clamps

Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC)
Remember that there is a switch on the handlebar right next to where you would typically rest the clutch. For the CRF450R and CRF450RWE, we provide Honda’s Selectable Torque Control (HSTC). There are three options for fine-tuning your bike’s handling, depending on the surface traction.
Engine Mode Select Button
You may change how the engine delivers power by pressing a button on the handlebars. It’s up to you to decide between Standard, Smooth, and Aggressive depending on the state of the music.
Compact Fuel Pump
No improvement in weight or size is too tiny for our engineers to consider. The fuel pump on the CRF450R is similarly compact and lightweight. Why burden yourself with more baggage if you don’t have to?
Rear Brake Pads
The brakes not only stop the bike but also prepare it for turns and leaps. It is why the selection of brake pads, for instance, is made with such care. They are built to last longer and provide more remarkable stopping power to increase your winning chances.
260mm Front Brake
The diameter of the CRF450R’s enormous front brake disc, located directly in front of the wheel, is an incredible 260mm. Excellent braking feel and a gradually easing pattern are yours to enjoy. Both the front and rear brake discs have protective covers.
Titanium Fuel Tank
Titanium was chosen for the CRF450R’s fuel tank because of its lightweight and high strength-to-weight ratio. It is as lightweight and durable as our previous plastic unit and keeps the same capacity while also taking up less space and helping to centralize fuel mass.
Sealed Airbox and Filter
The distinctive air filter and aerodynamic air box design collaborate to boost torque. A hatch concealing access to the air filter assembly sits on the left side of the license plate. Since there is no rubber gasket where the new filter attaches to the intake boot, cleaning and maintaining the filter on the CRF450R is faster and less messy than ever.
Electric Starter
Kick-starting? It is not the place for it. Yes, if you’re competing in the antique division. By eliminating it, our designers can reduce the weight of the CRF450R’s Kickstarter. Putting modern conveniences like lithium-ion batteries and electric starters on a bike like this is a win-win. When you ride a CRF450R, your only goal is to come out on top.
Switch Assembly

449cc Unicam Engine
The Unicam cylinder heads developed by Honda combine the best features of the single- and double-overhead-cam systems. A lighter and more compact engine with possibly narrower included valve angle than a comparable dual-overhead-camshaft motor is the result of this design. It flattens the combustion chamber to facilitate a high compression ratio and better propagate the ignition flame. Because less room is needed at the top of the cylinder head, the camshaft can be moved down there, making for a more compact and balanced engine.
Automatic Decompression System
It can only be seen on the track, however, and not without dismantling the engine. In addition to a complete redesign, our team moved the auto-decompression hardware to the left side of the cam last year. You can go deeper into a corner without downshifting, and the engine will be less likely to stall at low RPMs.
Central-Port Cylinder Head
In 2022, Honda introduced a new cylinder head design for the CRF450R. The central exhaust vent is shaped like an oval, and that’s the defining feature. When used with a single muffler, it increases power and exhaust efficiency above 5000 rpm. The CRF450RWE also has some unique engraving and porting done to it. Given that the cylinder head cover is also colored red, it stands out.
Titanium Intake Valves
Reducing the mass of the reciprocating parts of the engine (by using smaller valve springs and lighter titanium intake valves, for example) decreases the overall height of the engine.
Fuel Injection System
CRF450R fuel injectors are angled at 60 degrees, allowing them to spray gas past the throttle butterfly. More astonishing, denser fuel is pumped into the engine, improving power and torque. In addition, the CRF450R excelled in a few other subtle ways.
