Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali, along with engineers and technicians who monitored the engine’s development and unveiled all its features to Ducati aficionados, introduced the engine to the public in a video.

Each technical decision made during the development of the 2021 Ducati V4 Granturismo Engine project was intended to provide the highest possible operational smoothness while significantly increasing maintenance intervals.

Thanks to the new distribution, the maintenance intervals of the V4 Granturismo have been increased to 60,000 km, which includes a spring valve return system. Due to Ducati’s extensive experience consisting of the materials, processes, and technical solutions created around the desmodromic system, this was possible. All of this, combined with the spring valve return mechanism that puts less pressure on the parts than the Desmo, led to an engine that was the first significant success for a motorcycle engine. The V4 Granturismo offers a maximum torque of 125 kW (170 hp) at 10.500 rpm and 125 Nm (12.7 Kgm) at 8.750 rpm, as well as reliable operation at both low revs and loads, without sacrificing performance power. Confidence at high revs and the reach of a simple sports engine. All this while adhering to the strict standards of Euro-5 homologation.

The V4 Granturismo also has some features from Ducati’s experience in the world of racing, such as the choice to use a counter-rotating crankshaft, which increases the handling and agility of the bike, and the use of “Twin Plus” technology, which Can A strong and flawlessly manageable power supply at any speed.

The V4 Granturismo uses the tactic of inactivating the rear bank in vain to prevent deterioration in the thermal comfort caused by the heat delivered by the rear cylinders. In this way, when the motorcycle is stopped, the combustion process in the cylinders stops, which lowers the temperature and reduces fuel consumption while also improving the thermal comfort of the rider and the passenger.
