The 2022 KTM 890 Duke R Adventure Sports Motorcycle incorporates everything we love about the KTM 790 DUKE and cranks it up to 11. It’s still elegant but with more power. This mid-weight naked bike makes no concessions and is equally at home on mountain tracks as on the racing circuit. It produces more power, torque, and duskiness than any previous parallel twin. The 2022 KTM 890 Duke R Adventure Sports Motorcycle had established itself as the uncontested champion in the middleweight class when it first began tearing up chicanes in 2020. With strong power and torque numbers, it offers a genuine alternative for race-focused riders seeking nimbleness, punch, and composure.
The KTM 890 DUKE R once again promises to be a track-ready motorcycle you’ll want to ride every day with a fresh design to match its performance and attitude.
2022 KTM 890 Duke R Adventure Sports Motorcycle – Features and Specs
Exhaust
A stunning piece of stainless steel. A relatively small muffler that plays a vivid soundtrack is made possible by the middle damper, which also centralizes mass. Numerous test bench runs and complex simulations guaranteed that this exhaust system significantly contributes to the excellent emission requirements and tractable torque curve.
Engine
The KTM 890 DUKE R engine, created from the exact parallel twin that powers the KTM 790 DUKE, has been transformed into a fire-breathing, high-performance midweight behemoth. The KTM 890 DUKE R generates an astounding 121 HP and 99 Nm thanks to its larger bore and stroke, more muscular compression, and higher maximum RPM limit.
Engine case
Horizontally split, high-pressure cast aluminum crankcases to enable less weight and wall thickness in the 2022 KTM 890 Duke R Adventure Sports Motorcycle. The arrangement of a heavier flywheel and crankshaft also aids in increasing torque.
Injectors
New sensors installed in each throttle body by DELL’ORTO particularly for KTM, improve throttle response and smooth out throttle action for more accurate throttle inputs. These sensors detect the manifold pressure and alter the mixture accordingly per cylinder.
Cylinder heads
The KTM 890 DUKE R’s redesigned cylinder head has been mainly designed to fit a pair of bigger 37mm intake and 30mm exhaust valves, while the camshafts have been upgraded with more lift and a more aggressive profile. Along with the new balancer shaft, the rotational mass and RPM have also been increased.
PASC clutch
The slipper clutch, feather-light on the clutch finger, enables riders to downshift or accelerate quickly into curves without locking up the rear wheel.
Ride-by-wire
Riding-by-wire systems The rider’s throttle orders are electronically translated into optimal throttle valve settings for the present riding circumstances by the throttle inputs, which are activated by electronic sensors. With all of this, assaulting the twenties will be more controlled.
Crankcase
The horizontally split crankcases of the 2022 KTM 890 Duke R Adventure Sports Motorcycle are built of high-pressure cast aluminum, allowing for smaller wall thickness and additional weight savings. The KTM 890 DUKE R’s crankcases have also been redesigned to accommodate the more significant stroke than the KTM 790 DUKE.
Pistons
The KTM 890 DUKE R’s pounding heart is powered by two forged box pistons with three piston rings and a bronze condor bearing. Despite having a bigger bore, the pistons of the KTM 790 DUKE engine weigh 10 grams less because of the box structure.
Brakes
The KTM 890 DUKE R has the most excellent brakes in the industry since it was designed with high-performance street and track riding in mind. While slowing from speed, Brembo Stylema monoblack calipers and lighter 320 mm floating disks up front provide a crisp and precise brake feel. A Brembo MCS master cylinder, which enables the rider to modify the lever ratio and brake feel, further improves these. Compared to the KTM 790 DUKE, 1.2 kg of the unsprung mass has been conserved overall.
Subframe
The airbox is housed in the cast aluminum subframe. Everything is cast into two linked parts to decrease complexity and weight; there are no plastic coverings or extra brackets. The subframe’s triangular forms enable a more robust, more rigid construction.
Swing arm
The open-lattice, die-cast swingarm is developed for rigidity and has excellent flex characteristics, but it also has a steeper angle for more stability. The KTM 890 DUKE R is now slightly as sharp as you expect.
Suspension
The adjustable suspension of the KTM 890 DUKE R has been tweaked to be livelier with increased high-speed stability while maintaining real-world Street riding comfort. This adaptation was made to fit the extra power of the KTM 890 DUKE R while preserving the distinctive DUKE agility.
Front fork
Adjustable linear spring WP APEX front forks with split function damping, compression, and rebound settings are standard on the KTM 890 DUKE R. Riders may then fine-tune their chosen configuration for the track or the street.
Triple Clamps
The triple clamp’s rigidity has been adjusted to complement the fork’s flex, which results in sporty handling and superior feedback. To lighten the overall design, an aluminum steering stem has been employed in place of the steel used on the KTM 790 DUKE.
Rear shock
The bike’s rear end is controlled by a fully adjustable WP APEX shock with high and low-speed compression settings and excellent rebound adjustability. On-the-fly adjustment is quick and straightforward using a preload adjuster that is hydraulically adjustable.
Wheels
Extremely light light-alloy wheels painted in distinctive “R” orange are standard equipment on the KTM 890 DUKE R. This reduces the bike’s total weight while also minimizing the unsprung masses, facilitating a quicker turn-in and lowering rolling resistance.
Tires
MICHELIN Power cup II hyper sport tires help the KTM 890 DUKE R truly grip the pavement. These cutting-edge tires provide excellent grip on the track or the street.
Frame
The dynamic, load-bearing design of the tubular chassis, which enables it to cut through twisting courses and mountain passes with extraordinary responsiveness, is also responsible for the handling qualities of the KTM 890 DUKE R, which are similar to those of the KTM 790 DUKE. The frame is painted orange, much like every other KTM R, to emphasize its sporting qualities.
Handlebar
To improve sensation from the front tire and provide a more aggressive riding posture for the KTM 890 DUKE R, the tapered aluminum handlebars are positioned lower, farther front, and flatter. With the help of three rotating adjustments and four fine-tuning locations on the triple clamp, riders can customize their preferred reach.
Seats
The KTM 890 DUKE R has a meaner stance and a greater lean angle than the KTM 790 DUKE, thanks to its 840 mm higher seat height. The KTM 890 DUKE R has a more aggressive, racier appearance thanks to the pillion seat’s characteristic DUKE cover, which is included as standard.
Footpegs
The foot pegs on the KTM 890 DUKE R are entirely new and are set higher and farther back to provide for a livelier riding stance and more numerous lean angles. Without the use of extra components, reverse race shifting is also feasible.
Bodywork
The KTM 890 DUKE R’s menacing appearance and razor-sharp lines give it a menacing presence. However, in metal, it’s clear that this DUKE means business. Unapologetically KTM R has small dimensions, loud graphics, and a bright orange frame.
Tank
The KTM 890 DUKE R receives the same 14 liters of steel tank as the KTM 790 DUKE, which is precisely shaped to handle aggressive and calm riding styles.
Graphics
The 2022 KTM 890 Duke R Adventure Sports Motorcycle’s distinctive “R” graphics have undergone a high-quality application to guarantee they command respect. It stands tall from the rest of the mid-weight title bout, thanks to the contrast between orange and white.
Supermoto ABS
Supermoto ABS enables passionate and skilled riders to lock up the back wheel, which is necessary for dedicated Supermoto riding and purposeful slides. It indicates that the front wheel still has ABS functionality while the rear wheel has ABS disabled.
LED Headlight
The KTM 890 DUKE R’s LED headlights combine maximum light output with optimal near-field lighting. Daytime running lights let other drivers notice you coming, which they will do quickly.
TFT Display
A well-organized presentation of relevant information in a variety of colors. The display bars change color as you crank the engine, either encouraging you or alerting you that the engine is still cold. Additionally, the display automatically adjusts its lighting to the surrounding environment. Anti-wheelie and ABS modes are displayed on the KTM 890 DUKE R.
Rider Aids
Electronic rider aids are a means for KTM to offer additional performance, pleasure, and control. Four riding options are available to riders: Sport for more aggressive riding, Street for relaxed city riding, Rain for slick conditions, and Track for the most effective assault.
