The much-awaited KTM 450 SMR is making a welcome return to the company’s lineup. A tried-and-true foundation is provided by the KTM 450 SX-F, which has won championships and set the standard for the industry. The KTM 450 SX-F and our READY TO RACE DNA have been combined to produce a bike that provides improved performance and ease of use for 2021. It has a tiny, single overhead camshaft cylinder head and an efficient electronic fuel injection system to achieve its power. It is the most comprehensive and competitive model in the Supermoto racing division, thanks to its quality componentry.
450 SMR 2021 KTM Dirt Motorcycle – Features and Price
Engine & Exhaust
For constant horsepower, it is critical to keep the engine’s temperature stable. For a more stable ride, the KTM 450 SMR has radiators positioned lower in the frame. The ergonomics benefit from their small profile and seamless integration with the shrouds. The innovative system uses CFD technology (computational fluid dynamics) and a sophisticated coolant circuit routing to maintain the engine running at its peak performance no matter what the circumstances. It is not only debris that the radiators are protected against but also the energy dispersed around the radiators in the case of a hit, thanks to a set of specific guards.
Cylinder head
Shock (single overhead camshaft) cylinder heads on the KTM 450 SMR. The design emphasizes mass centralization, which contributes to the overall perfection of handling. When it comes to responsiveness, the overhead camshaft has an optimal friction surface and valve timing. Highly robust rocker arms operate four ultra-light titanium valves (intake 40mm, exhaust 33mm). DLC-coated intake rockers enable the engine to reach a maximum speed of 11,500 rpm. Low-friction chain guides support RPMs. Unparalleled power delivery is made possible thanks to a new head design that maximizes efficiency.
Clutch
Supermoto-style drifting can be achieved with the KTM 450 SMR thanks to an antidoping clutch that stops the rear wheel from becoming unstable when the rider brakes hard at the apex of a corner. The Brembo hydraulic system ensures that the clutch is modulated perfectly.
E-starter
With a Mitsuba starting motor and starter drive, the KTM 450 SMR comes standard with an electronic start. Because of its reliability, it saves you time and effort when you need it the most, as proved repeatedly.
Exhaust
For maximum power and acceleration, the KTM 450 SMR’s exhaust is an essential part of the machine’s design. Model-specific header pipes with an enhanced resonator called FDH (Flow Design Header), which is a tiny chamber surrounding the pipe, are included in this model. Since the shock absorber does not need to be removed, this design makes it easier to service the shock. As a result of the silencer’s internal construction, the bike’s ergonomics may be smaller while meeting regulatory noise restrictions.
Engine
The KTM 450 SMR’s unique engine is the only choice for sheer power. When it comes to the most challenging contests, like AMA Supercross and the MXGP World Championship, it has been exposed to being more than capable.
At only 27.3 kg, this SOHC power plant is an excellent illustration of innovative technical principles. Engineers may place the engine closer to the center of gravity, improving handling and maneuverability, thanks to mass centralization.
Fuel tank
The gasoline tank of the KTM 450 SMR is made of lightweight polyethylene. Allows for sleek ergonomics without sacrificing the 7-liter size of the fuel tank. Allows for simple and secure sealing of the filler cap.
Frame
For the KTM 450 SMR, the frame comprises chromium-molybdenum steel pieces that are hydro-formed and welded together by state-of-the-art robots. In combination with ideal geometries, the unique design ensures a precisely specified rigidity. Riders benefit from valuable feedback and responsive handling, which harmonize with the suspension to give exceptional agility at low and high speeds. It is the outcome. Using lightweight aluminum pieces, the subframe provides the rider with a wonderful sense of control.
Swingarm
With a gravity die-cast manufacturing technique, the KTM 450 SMR’s one-piece swingarm provides outstanding strength at the lowest possible weight. With its adjustable rear wheel, it is possible to go on tighter twisty circuits with a shorter wheelbase or use a larger wheelbase for better stability on longer tracks. The chain measurement lines on the swingarm are visible from the top, making adjustments more manageable and more precise.
Wheels
The 16.5′′ front and seventeen′′ rear ALPINA spoked wheels on the KTM 450 SMR are ultra-lightweight and sturdy. Tubeless Bridgestone slick tires in sizes 125/600 R16,5 and 165/630 R17 complete the package for optimal grip, traction, and responsiveness.
Front Fork
It is equipped with a WP XACT fork with AER technology and modified settings for Supermoto application in the KTM 450 SMR variant. It is a 48mm USD air-sprung fork with a pressurized oil chamber on the right and a capsulated air spring on the left. As a part of the mid-valve damping system, the fork offers excellent rider input and remarkable comfort. A single air pressure valve and easy-to-access click adjustments for compression and rebound damping allow you to customize the setup for Supermoto racing. Standard equipment includes an air pump for adjusting the fork’s air pressure.
A precise fork response under hard braking into a bend is made possible by a 22 mm front axle diameter.
Rear Shock
To give the best possible traction and energy absorption, the WP XACT rear shock absorber has a Supermoto-specific damping configuration. To maximize traction and absorption, the component is entirely adjustable and fitted to a linkage system with a specified shape.
Brakes
On every KTM motorcycle, high-tech Brembo brakes are included as standard equipment. Brembo’s 4-piston radially placed caliper and Brembo’s radial expert cylinder enhance the 450 SMR’s 310 mm front disc’s stopping power, critical in Supermoto. For maximum sensation and control, while sliding the bike into a corner, a 220mm disc brake with a single-piston caliper is mounted at the back.
Ergonomics & Comfort
The KTM 450 SMR has an ergonomically built seat that provides exceptional comfort for the rider. Adding more silicon strips to the seat region improves the rider’s grip and enhances their overall experience.
Handlebar
High-strength aluminum tapered handlebars developed by NEKEN are standard on the 450 SMR. Rubber damped mountings enable the handlebar to be positioned in two distinct ways. This bike comes with two handlebars, one of which has an ODI vulcanized grip on the right and a lock-on grip on the left
Footpegs
The footpeg pivot is kept clear of dirt thanks to specialized ‘no-dirt’ footpegs. Want a better view of the road? The 2019 EXC models’ footpegs, which are 6mm higher than the SMR versions, may then be installed.
