Engine
An all-new 2022 YFZ50 Yamaha Sports ATV provided incorporates a two-stage rpm limiter and a throttle restriction to adapt engine performance to the rider’s developing ability level to enable young beginners to evolve into competent ATV riders. A tethered switch also allows parents to observe rookie riders closely and if required disconnect power to the engine that would enable young enthusiasts to learn the fundamentals of ATV control safely. The 49cc four-stroke SOHC engine has been optimized to produce exceptional low- to mid-range performance precisely where it is required. The engine has an air-cooled cooling system for simplicity, performance, and extended engine life and it is lubricated with ultra-reliable wet-sump oil. Electric starting is standard, powered by a dependable sealed battery. A kick starter is also included for added peace of mind.
There is no shifting with a fully automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT). It’s useful for all riders, but it’s a feature that beginner riders will love the most. Engine power is directed to the rear wheels via a strong chain drive that runs down a swingarm designed at an optimal angle for rear shock performance. Thanks to features like the tool-free quick-access air filter element, servicing is a breeze. The exhaust also incorporates a conventional spark arrestor.
