The new Tenere 700 2022 Yamaha Sports Adventure Bike is powered by a 689cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected twin-cylinder engine based on Yamaha’s award-winning MT-07. This tiny powertrain is designed for adventure riding with tractable and controllable power in all riding conditions. The Ténéré 700’s small body, slim gasoline tank, and flat seat provide for maximum rider mobility, which allows the rider to grab the tank while sitting or standing to increase confidence on dirt and asphalt.

Engine
The new Tenere 700 2022 Yamaha Sports Adventure Bike is derived from the MT-07 Hyper Naked sportbike that combines excellent durability and exhilarating power delivery in a compact fuel-efficient design. The 689cc, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, DOHC inline-twin gives the Ténéré 700 outstanding handling. At the same time, the counterbalanced two-cylinder architecture produces smooth, long-legged power suited for long days in the saddle.
The two-cylinder engine uses Yamaha’s “Crossplane Crankshaft Concept” 270-degree crank to give linear torque development in response to the rider’s throttle input which can be traced back to the Dakar-winning XTZ750 race bikes. The CP2 engine is also small, light, and compact, with an excellent rider-machine interface. The cylinder bores of the CP2 engine are slightly shifted forward towards the exhaust side. It minimizes friction between the piston and the cylinder wall, resulting in increased reliability, higher power and better fuel economy.
The six-speed transmission “stacks” the gearbox and crankshaft in a triangle structure to make the overall engine size smaller front-to-back that allowing for better weight balancing. The transmission ratios are set to maximize low- to mid-speed torque and excellent response characteristics to enable the rider to concentrate on the road or trail ahead. The electronic fuel injection settings have been fine-tuned to provide a blend of fast response, excellent for tricky off-road riding and smooth, linear delivery, perfect for flowing progress when back on the road. The result is an exceptionally adaptable powertrain with good fuel economy, strong acceleration and precise controllability on and off the road.
Chassis/Suspension
The new Tenere 700 2022 Yamaha Sports Adventure Bike has a lightweight, high-strength tubular steel frame that offers a tuned rigidity balance for nimble, responsive handling while also providing the strength and durability required to take on the most challenging terrain. This bike is suitable for agility. The chassis has a short 62.6-inch wheelbase and 9.5 inches of ground clearance to handle whatever the trail throws at you.
In off-road riding circumstances, the ability to shift body weight forward and backward to suit the terrain is critical. Thus the Ténéré 700 has a flat seat and compact body for optimal rider mobility. The thin body and gasoline tank also allow the rider to grip the tank when sitting or standing, providing additional confidence whether riding on dirt or asphalt.
The Ténéré 700 has a long-travel 43mm inverted fork with 8.3 inches of travel which is ideal for aggressive dirt riding. The division is entirely adjustable for adapting to changing road and trail conditions and the robust inverted layout is very resistant to flex to retain precise steering and suspension action. The bike has 7.9 inches of travel and a remote preload adjuster. The Ténéré 700 has a pair of wave-style 282mm front discs and a 245mm wave-style rotor in the back. The Ténéré 700 comes standard with ABS to boost rider confidence and prevent wheel lock-ups in low-traction situations. Still, riders can temporarily disable the system for complete manual control—ideal for the unique demands of challenging off-road conditions, unlike many so-called adventure bikes with cast alloy wheels and road-biased tires.
