Design

The Ducati Design Center has created a dynamic, refined, aesthetically compact, light motorcycle, fundamentally a Ducati product.

When seen from the front, it bears a strong resemblance to the Panigale superbike. Also included are LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) with low and high beam parabolas positioned in the shadows, practically disguising them from direct frontal view: much like those fitted on the best Ducati sporting models.

An aggressive, low-set fairing flows seamlessly into the steel fuel tank construction, which contains a well-designed cockpit with an LCD instrument panel. A Plexiglas screen provides aerodynamic airflow protection in the form of a sports trophy, adjustable in height.

The lines, proportions, and volumes are characteristic of Ducati sports motorcycles, with the slender tail and contoured tank playing a crucial part in their design. Buttresses around the Trellis frame connect the main and nose fairings to the latter. Designed to look good, the bottom fairing of a Ducati SuperSport is cut to expose the exhaust system and engine.

Stacking the dual-pipe side mufflers in a sports-style configuration shows off Ducati’s meticulous attention to technical details. Rear-wheel Y-spokes are visible thanks to the tail’s low-slung and sloping form, while side pannier storage space is plentiful (available as accessories).

Comfortable for everyday usage and well-suited to sports riding, the single-seat has contrasting stitching around the rider and passenger zones and just a hint of a backrest. The sportiest Ducati bikes have a detailed profile when seen from above, thanks to the tank and front fairing.

Ergonomics

The ergonomic triangle, aerodynamic protection, and rider freedom of movement have all been given the utmost priority, resulting in a bike with exceptional comfort, adaptability, and sports handling. Foot placement is not an issue due to the one-piece seat’s low rider zone height of 810 mm. To minimize wrist fatigue and maximize control, the footpegs are placed such that the handlebars do not put too much pressure on them.

When used with the bigger Plexiglas touring screen available as an option, the height-adjustable Plexiglas screen may be adjusted to two different locations across a travel range of 50 mm, offering adequate airflow protection even at highway speeds. To maximize the flexibility of movement, the rider and passenger footpegs are separated from one other, as well as a small lateral silencer.

There are several advantages to riding in a relaxed posture, from regular commutes to long-distance excursions. Ample cushioning and a clear separation of the footpegs distinguish the seat’s passenger part. Several options are available to enhance long-distance comfort, including seats with additional cushioning and passenger grab rails that provide a better ergonomic grasp than the basic under-seat ones.

Engine

A modified variant of the 937 cm3 twin-cylinder Ducati Testastretta 11-degree powers the SuperSport. The brand new 94 mm and 67.5 mm bore and stroke are the dimensions of the diameter and stroke, respectively, of this Euro-4 certified engine that features four valves per cylinder, a secondary air system and liquid cooling. It has an impressive 113 horsepower and 96.7 Nm of torque at 9,000 rpm.

The crankcase and cylinder heads of the SuperSport’s Testastretta 11° engine have been reshaped to make the new power unit a fully stressed part of the frame; additional modifications include rerouting the water through the head specifically designed alternator cover to allow the gear sensor to be installed. The engine can take in more air-fuel mixture thanks to the large 53 mm throttle bodies, which are efficiently regulated by the whole Ride-by-Wire system. In addition, this engine has never-before-seen injection and control technologies.

There are two exceptionally tiny stack pipes in the exhaust system’s 2-1-2 layout: one in the lower pre-silencer and the other in the side-to-side silencer. Twin-cylinder engine service period of 15,000 kilometers (9,000 miles) every year or 12 months; valve play inspections are performed every 30,000 kilometers (200 miles) (18,000 miles).

The DQS up/down unit, which comes standard on the SuperSport S series and can be purchased as an accessory for the SuperSport, transmits engine power via a 6-speed gearbox with a gear sensor mainly built for the SuperSport line.

The brand new oil-bath slipper style of clutch has low-effort wire control. To keep the car stable during severe downshifting, the slipper function cuts in when the rear wheel exerts back-torque on the discs.

Frame

The Trellis frame design of the SuperSport makes effective use of the engine as a fully stressed component. In contrast to the seat sub-frame, which is also constructed of steel, which is only attached to the vertical cylinder head, the main steel frame supports both cylinder heads. SuperSport’s dynamic potential can be unleashed with this configuration, which offers a small, light structure with excellent torsional stiffness. Another benefit is that the 210 kg dry weight is kept to a minimum with this frame-plus-engine load-bearing design.

Lightness, excellent handling, and outstanding drop-in performance are all provided by the SuperSport’s 1,478 mm wheelbase and 24° rake/91 mm trail steering geometry. As soon as you take the SuperSport out for a test ride, the 180/55 rear tire shows off the bike’s excellent handling and optimized contact patch. Additionally, the 48-degree lean angle provides infinite on-road enjoyment.

SuperSport flair is further enhanced by its forged aluminum handlebars that are set on the yoke while yet keeping the fork adjustments visible.

The footpegs come with die-cast aluminum supports and are designed to offer the best grip possible. It is possible to replace these, however, including rubber-lined pegs for urban riding. Aluminum heel protectors are included with the footpegs for riders. To give the motorcycle a more aggressive appearance, the passenger pegs may be readily removed from the rear sub-frame. In addition to the tool kit, there is a waterproof USB phone charging port located under the seat.

Suspension

All authentic Ducati sports bike have adjustable suspension and a single-sided die-cast swingarm that is light but incredibly robust, giving the motorcycle a distinctively technical and professional appearance.

We have Marzocchi forks with completely adjustable damping and pre-load at the front of the bike. When it comes to handling, the bike’s rear includes a Sachs single-sided mono-shock that can be adjusted for greater pre-load and rebound damping.

Front and rear Ohlins suspensions are multi-adjustable, with 48 mm TiN coated forks and a fully adjustable Ohlins mono-shock with an integrated gas cartridge on the SuperSport S.

Tires and Wheels

Y-shaped spokes on the alloy wheels of the SuperSport measure 3.50 x 17 in the front and 5.50 x 17 in the back. The Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tires roll on 17-inch wheels with a new 120/70 ZR 17 front tire and a brand new 180/55 ZR 17 rear tire. Sports handling and grip are even more excellent with the new Pirelli Diablo Rosso III, the direct successor to the Diablo Rosso II. In terms of safety, reaction, and grip, the Diablo Rosso III features the latest-generation materials, innovative construction, compounds, and the tread design that originates straight from the Diablo Supercorsa (also in the wet).

Braking System

As far as technical substance and aesthetic effect are concerned, the SuperSport braking system is remarkably close to those found on the most potent sports models. Rear Brembo M4-32s and Brembo PR18/1s are used to clamp down on the two 320mm discs in the front, driven by the Brembo PR18/1 pump with a separate reservoir and adjustable lever.

A 2-piston Brembo caliper clamps down the SuperSport’s 245mm rear disc at the back. When it comes to stopping power, Brembo’s system is second-to-none because of its exceptional linearity. First-rate “fingertip feel” may be achieved because of its responsiveness. The Bosch 9MP ABS has three mappings for controlling the braking system.
