Design

It has been reworked like the Monster 1200, but without significant alterations to the lines of the motorbike, to produce a sleek, compact machine with an authentic sports character. The tank has received much attention, with a “lighter” and “more contemporary” appearance loyal to the original Monster from 1992. The traditional anodized aluminum connection clip also returns to emphasize these ties to the past further.

Riders may choose between a seat height of 785 or 810 mm thanks to the short, compact, elegant tail, which is supported by the steel Trellis subframe. Improved ergonomics and sporty lines are achieved with this setup. The new Euro 4 compatible silencer takes design cues from the Monster 1200 R’s exhaust.

In addition to the tank, the 821 has a spherical headlamp that is both high-tech and iconic, much like the one on the Monster 1200.

Ducati has been developing this type for twenty-five years now. For more than two decades, this bike has been reshaped and reimagined, making it a custom and personalization favorite. It has a significant impact on the whole motorcycle industry.

Engine

821 cm3 twin-cylinder Desmodromic Testastretta 11° engine, meant to be a structural part of the chassis, powers the Monster 821 motorcycle. Euro 4-compliant, it has an output of 109 horsepower (80 kW) and 8.8 kilograms (86 Nm) at 7750 revolutions per minute. All riders will benefit from its engine’s high pulling power throughout the rpm range, making it a blast to ride. As a result, the Monster 821 is both dependable and economical, thanks to its long service intervals and low cost of ownership.

The 821 cm3 twin-cylinder engine “breathes” using throttle bodies with Ride-by-Wire management. Secondary air is also used to reduce combustion cycle dispersion without influencing emissions by cooling the engine using a concave radiator with two high-efficiency fans.

Testastretta 11° seeks to offer fluid power that’s simple to control throughout the rev range via its fundamental architecture. An 11-degree valve overlap angle offers tremendous torque punch in the low-to-mid-range road riding rpm ranges.

The oil bath anti-patter kind of the Monster 821 clutch has ultra-low effort cable lever control. A self-servo system gradually increases the spring load. With the improved “feel” at the lever, frequent gear changes (as in city traffic) and lengthy rides are made considerably more comfortable. By reducing clutch disc pressure during back-torque, the anti-patter system prevents the rear axle from becoming unstable during vigorous downshifting.

Designed for maximum power and economy, the Monster 821’s exhaust ducts have a 50mm cross-section and are part of a 2-1 system with equal cylinder lengths. Each cylinder has a lambda probe as part of this system, which allows for fully autonomous and optimized fueling. Catalytic converters assure compliance with Euro 4 regulations, while an electronically controlled adjustment valve optimizes exhaust pressure across the rev range of a stacked twin silencer.

Frame

The Trellis frame is joined to the cylinder heads of the Monster 821. The Panigale project was the first to use this racing-derived design on a production bike. When combined with oversized cross-section tubing, this design provides excellent torsional stiffness that is ideal for increasing the motorcycle’s dynamic performance. Finally, the Monster 821’s double-sided swingarm guarantees a 1480 mm wheelbase.

New footpeg struts are additionally supported by a revised rear seat-carrying subframe, which is connected directly to the engine. Sport-style riding necessitates pegs distinct from the rider’s feet to mobility. Die-cast aluminum footpeg attachments are used for both the rider and passenger, and the pegs are constructed of aluminum. The Monster 821’s pegs also include aluminum heel protectors to accentuate the bike’s sporty nature.

Suspension

An aluminum swingarm and die-cast vertical cylinder head shock absorber are mounted directly to the Monster 821’s upright cylinder head forks at each end, with spring pre-load and rebound damping adjustable by progressive linkage. The Monster 821’s quick chassis design and sturdy but comfortable suspension make it possible for anybody to experience sheer joy on two wheels.

Tyers and wheels

3.5 x 17″ and 5.5 x 17″ light alloy wheels with Pirelli DIABLO ROSSOTM III tires measuring 120/70 upfront and 180/55 outback are standard equipment on the Monster 821. The rear bi-compound tire has a higher silica content than the front tire. In dry or rainy circumstances, superb traction implies sporty handling. To ensure consistent performance throughout their service life, DIABLO ROSSOTM III tires have unparalleled quality and unsurpassed performance.

Braking system

The brakes on the Monster 821 are just superb. Brembo M4-32 4-piston monobloc calipers clamp down on 320 mm discs up front, and an axial-pump brake lever with an integrated fluid reservoir completes the setup upfront. There is just one 245 mm disc in the back, which is held by a single Brembo caliper and has enhanced efficiency sintered brake pads like the front. These parts provide excellent braking performance, which has long been a trademark of Ducatis.

Bosch ABS System

It comes standard on the Monster 821 with a Bosch 9.1MP ABS with an integrated pressure sensor, ensuring “monstrous” yet safe braking power. Superlative stopping power and state-of-the-art safety are combined in the Ducati Safety Pack (DSP).

Indicators and headlights

The Monster 821 has a bright halogen light source and LED “horseshoe” sidelights, standard on all Ducati naked motorcycles. The back of the vehicle is likewise equipped with LED illumination.

A Hazard lights feature also available on the Monster 821, which is accessed by holding down the left indicator switch for 4 seconds.
