Technology

An all-new BMW R 1250 R, BMW R 1250 GS, and BMW 2020 R 1250 GS Adventure Motorcycles have a new boxer engine that makes them even more powerful. It means that they can go faster in all kinds of situations. One 254 cc is how much space it has now (previously: 1 170 cc).

Bore and stroke are now 102.5 and 76mm apart (previously: 101 to 73 mm). Before, it had a power output of 92 kW (125hp) at 7750 rpm and a maximum torque of 125 Nm at 6500 rpm. It now has 100 kW (136 hp), more than twice as much as before. With a 7 percent capacity boost, the new boxer engine has 14 percent more torque and 9 percent more output than before.

At this point in its development, the boxer engine still uses the air/liquid cooling system used for an extended time. Precision cooling means that the cooling fluid moves through the parts of the engine that are more likely to get hot, like the two-cylinder heads and details of the cylinders. There are two radiators on the left and right of the bike’s front to help dissipate the heat.

The goal of developing the new boxer engine for the BMW 2020 R 1250 GS Adventure Motorcycle was to make the previous model even better. It also includes a lot more refinement and smooth running, as well as better emission and fuel consumption levels.

It was possible to make these changes thanks to BMW Shift Cam. You don’t see it on any BMW motorcycles right now. Its job is to change the timings and strokes of the inlet valves on the inlet side.

Each valve has two shift camshafts, one for partial-load and one for full-load. Each of these camshafts has a unique design that makes it easier for the valve to open and close. While the partial-load cam has been set up to get the best fuel consumption and refinement, the full-load cam is set up to get the best output.

Full- or partial-load cams can move the intake camshaft, which means the intake valves can be opened by either cam, depending on how much weight is on them and what speed they’re running. When the intake camshaft moves, it moves in an axial direction. It is done with the help of a shifting gate on the camshaft and an electronic actuator that comes into play at this point.

This phase shift makes the fuel-air mixture flow into the combustion chamber in a swirl, making it more agitated. It leads to very efficient combustion and better use of fuel. As long as you ride in the right way, BMW Shift Cam Technology can cut your fuel consumption by up to 4% compared to the already very efficient predecessor model.

Among the options and extras for the R 1250 R and R 1250 RS, the customer can choose from several different seat heights. There is an 820 mm seat that is the standard one. You can also get the 790 mm “low” version.

There is also an extra-low version and a high version. It results in a vast range of heights between the lowest and highest seats that come with the car. This range covers a height difference of about 80 mm.

For a long time, BMW Motorrad has been seen as a leader in safety in motorcycling. The LED headlight on the R 1250 RS and R 1250 GS Adventure is a shining sample in the rightest sense of the word.

In addition to the R 1250 RS and the BMW 2020 R 1250 GS Adventure Motorcycle, LED daytime riding lights can be added to the R 1250 R. The LED headlights on the R 1250 RS and R 1250 GS Adventure make it easier for you to see in traffic. It makes it easier for you to avoid accidents.

There are two LED units for low and high beam, and there are four more for daytime riding lights and sidelights if you buy an LED daytime riding light.

It means you can make a phone call or listen to music while you’re on the road. For example, if the TFT screen is linked to a smartphone and a helmet with the BMW Motorrad Communication System, the rider can easily play music and make calls.

If you don’t want to install an app, you can still use these features. When the rider has a Bluetooth connection to a standard smartphone, they can listen to music while they drive. In addition, the free BMW Motorrad Connected App allows you to use arrow-based navigation on the TFT screen. It is suitable for everyday use.
