When the Honda Rebel 500 launched a few years ago, riders enjoyed how it mixed a modern, blacked-out appearance with classic attributes like a low seat height, lightweight, narrow 471cc parallel-twin engine, and user-friendly powerband. And for 2020, we preserved all of the finest components. Still, we added some tremendous changes, such as an LED lighting package, new instrumentation, a slipper/assist clutch that reduces clutch pull, a new suspension, and a slew of new Honda accessories. So, a terrific bike just became much better. Express yourself on a Rebel now more than ever!
The Rebel 500 and Rebel 300, which are already noted for their user-friendly performance and ability to traverse city streets, also feature an assist-slipper clutch that lowers clutch-lever effort by 30% while simultaneously providing greater control during deceleration. When city streets shift to twisty backroads, a redesigned fork with stiffer spring rates and altered oil levels improves handling, while an upgraded shock with more robust spring rates gives comparable levels of support.
A better meter displays crucial information like gear selection and fuel level, while a seat with upgraded thickness and density provides more support. A relocated and reshaped LED headlamp is complemented with new LED turn signals and a reworked LED taillight, improving the two models’ elegant aesthetics even more. The Rebel 500 is driven by a 471cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine with powerful bottom-end torque and smooth, linear power delivery. In contrast, the Rebel 300 is powered by a 286cc single-cylinder engine with a strong personality and user-friendly power delivery.
Honda Rebel 500 2020 Cruisers – Features
Chassis / Suspension
The riding stances on both models are comfortable and neutral, with arms extended and feet going straight down to the mid-mounted pegs. Sporty lean angles are possible with high ground clearances. The Rebel’s beautiful and compact tubular-steel frame carries the engine in three locations. It is designed to be as small as possible around the rider’s inseam to accommodate the low-slung aesthetic. The trail is 110mm wide with a 28-degree rake. For rigidity, comfort, and style, the 41mm of fork stanchions are spaced 230mm apart, and the bottom legs are blacked out.
The brand new fork angle is 30 degrees, the wheelbase is 58.7 inches, and the seat height is 27.2 inches, resulting in balanced, neutral steering. The thin frame body has a unique rear loop that separates the seat from the stamped-metal rear fender. Dunlop tires (130/90-16 front, 150/80-16 rear) are placed on cast-aluminum wheels measuring 16 inches in diameter. The Rebel 500 and Rebel 300 are both available in standard and ABS configurations. The iconic peanut-shaped fuel tank dramatically sloped front end, and thick tires on large-diameter wheels combine to create stripped shapes that convey eccentric uniqueness from every viewpoint. Twin standard, side-mounted dual shocks having two-step preload adjustments are placed on a blacked-out 45mm tubular swingarm. The ignition is located under the left side of the gasoline tank.
Engine / Drivetrain
A 471cc, eight-valve, liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine with powerful bottom-end torque and a smooth, linear power delivery powers the Rebel 500. Roller rocker arms are used in the Honda Rebel 500-cylinder head; shim-type valve adjustment enables them to be light, reducing valve-spring load and less friction. The Rebel 500 features a quiet (SV Chain) cam chain, with the surface of its pins coated with Vanadium to minimize friction and enhance dust resistance.
The inlet valve diameter is 26mm, while the new exhaust valve diameter is 21.5mm. The introduction of striations on the piston skirt of the Rebel 500 has decreased friction. After essonite nitriding, an AB-1 salt bath procedure generates a protective oxidization membrane. The crankshaft pins of the Honda Rebel 500 2020 Cruisers are phased at 180°, and the main couple-balancer is positioned behind the cylinders, near the bike’s center of gravity. Scissor gears are used in the main and balancer equipment to reduce noise. The crank counterweight is designed mainly for couple-balance, and its modest weight enables the engine to spin freely and with little inertia. Centrifugally cast thin-walled sleeves are used in Honda Rebel 500 2020 Cruisers crankcases.
Their internal design decreases the “pumping” losses associated with a 180-degree phased firing sequence. A new deep oil sump has a capacity of 3.2 liters. A nimble 286cc single-cylinder engine propels the Honda Rebel 500 2020 Cruisers. The six-speed transmission is intended to offer seamless gear shifts. Mechanical components are blacked out to give a rugged, minimalist appearance. A custom-made muffler looks lovely and creates a pulsing exhaust noise.
Honda Accessories
An all-new official Honda Accessories are available for the Rebel 500 and Rebel 300, creating their unique style. Accessories include a fashionable main seat, headlamp cowl, meter visor, fork cover, and a new saddlebag that can be removed without tools and comes with shoulder straps for simple usage while leaving the bike.
