The Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro comes with one of the most refined designs that help during the off-road ride. The designers at Centro Stile Ducati put extra attention to the balancing of the vehicle proportion. The front end is superbly managed with the help of a new 30-liter tank. However, the front beak is no longer and the two tank side covers, made from anodized aluminum, are mounted to enhance beauty and balance. The front mudguards have been redesigned and repositioned to guarantee superb protection against mud.
The muscular and light front-end lines blend well with the streamlined tail section that has been entirely redesigned for optimal control while riding standing on the footpegs. The seats have been redesigned for better continuity and to ensure more effortless rider movement during off-road riding. The side view has imaginary ascending lines starting from the swingarm and it reaches the front headlight making it look awesome.
The riding position of the Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro has been designed to provide better off-road handling. The handlebars are kept higher while the seat is kept narrow from the crotch area, the footpegs are made from microcast steel and come with removable rubber inserts. The braking levers are also inspired from the off-road world, the rear brake lever can easily be height-adjusted in two different positions while the gear lever contains an articulated coupling to prevent breakage during Hands-Freeride. There is an aluminum sump guard with supports connected directly to the chassis that helps in engine protection.
The Ducati Enduro is equipped with an 870 mm high seat while the higher version has an 890 mm seat. Its seat has been designed to ensure ultimate comfort during on- and off-road riding. The low seat height of 850 mm is also available as an option for those riders who want to build extra confidence when approaching on the ground. The narrow and small passenger seat is also open as an accessory that will help the rider to shift his weight backwards while standing on the footpegs freely.
The screen of the Multistrada 1200 Enduro provides 60 mm of vertical travel and it can be easily adjusted using one hand. There are two 12-volt power outlets available, one is located in the front dashboard while the other one is located below the passenger seat. They can easily handle loads of up to 8A to power accessories like thermal apparel and mobile phone charger. The USB slot is a mobile phone charging point, located just below the seat. The center stand comes as standard in Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro.
The Enduro offers a storage area under the passenger seat, an ideal place to store toolkit, user and conservation manual or other personal items. It helps during long rides and it contains several impressive accessories that help during the long journey. The rear grab handle has been mainly redesigned which helps in minimizing the overall width of the bike.
The Multistrada 1200 Enduro is available in three different color options i.e. Ducati Red, Phantom Grey and Star While Silk. It can be personalized with items from the comprehensive Ducati Performance accessory catalog by Toueatech including Enduro Touring, Urban and Sport packages.
Engine
The Ducati 2018 Multistrada 1200 Enduro is available with robust and high performing Ducati Testastretta DVT engine that is known for its ultimate torque and acceleration. The engine optimizes the high-rpm performance by independently varying the timing of the camshaft that controls the intake valves and camshaft that controls the exhaust valves. At low-to-medium rpm the engine runs smoother while making the power delivery more fluid and boosting torque. Moreover, this engine changes its characteristics as rpm varies while complying with the strict conditions of Euro 4.
The variance of the valve overlap angle has been achieved by adopting the DVT (Desmodromic Variable Timing) System. The valve timing adjuster is applied on the ends of each of the two overhead camshafts. The DVT system comes in two different parts, one is an external housing rigidly connected to the pulley driven by the timing belt while the internal mechanism is connected to the camshaft. Furthermore, the engine uses the Desmodromic valve actuation system that has made the Bologna-built bikes famous worldwide. This system closes the intake and exhaust valves mechanically with greater precision.
The design of the engine shows how the new Desmodromic valve actuation gives an advantage over the traditional valve springs, at low revs the system requires small force because there are no springs to be compressed. It makes it possible to keep the individual valve timing adjuster compact that reduces the overall weight plus it allows them to integrate smoothly.
The 1198ccm engine contains a bore of 106 mm and a stroke of 67.9 mm delivers 160 hp at 9,500 rpm and 136 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm. The engine can deliver 100 Nm of torque at just 3,500 rpm and remains constant while more than 110 Nm between 5,000 to 10,000 rpm. The research and development team of Ducati has introduced the new injection system that allows the engine to use the fuel injector’s position to direct their spray onto the heated rear of the intake valve. It results in more vaporization, combustion and smoothness.
The engine features the new Dual Spark (DS) system that uses two spark plugs per cylinder to enhance combustion efficiency in all circumstances. This spark plug contains an independent ignition control to guarantee optimal performance throughout the entire rev range. There is a new anti-knock sensor that keeps the engine running smoothly even when lower-octane fuels are used. However, the performance is also enhanced by using the secondary air system. It allows us to have a more vibrant fuel mixture to be used without increasing emissions. The Ducati 2018 Multistrada 1200 comes with a six-speed gearbox that provides excellent gear shifting experience. The Enduro comes with a clutch having an oil-bath slipper type. The motorcycle comes with extended maintenance features i.e. 15,000 km or 18,000 miles or roughly one can say that a year.
Chassis
The 2018 Multistrada 1200 Enduro comes with the state-of-the-art chassis that features perfect wheelbase, swingarm length and steering geometry. All of the parts have been optimized to ensure better handling and stability. The bike contains sturdy frontal Trellis frame with large-diameter, low-thickness tubing while the two lateral sub-frame, which are closed off by the rear load-bearing, techno-polymer, fiberglass element to maximize torsional rigidity. As compare to Ducati Multistrada 1200 Pro, the minimum ground height of the Enduro version has been elevated by 31 mm to 205 mm an essential advantage when heading off-road.
The double-sided swingarm is longer than the single-sided used in Ducati Multistrada 1200 that perfectly matches the design of the bike. The motorcycle is made of shell-cast aluminum which is the combination of brushed and rough-finished parts that offers eye-catching appeal. The swingarm is specially designed for off-road terrain that combines limited weight with the ability to absorb all kinds of bumps. The motorcycle contains Sachs steering damper than enhances control and rider confidence under extreme situations, it allows the rider to reach the higher level of performance.
The motorcycle comes with an upside-down 48 mm fork including sleeves in characteristic ceramic grey and an extended wheel hub. The rear wheel comes with Sachs shock absorber. The front and rear suspension are controlled by the Ducati Skyhook Suspension (DSS) system, which is integrated into the Ride Modes of both rebound and compression damping and spring pre-load. The motorcycle features 200 mm of wheel travel at both of the front and rear wheels including a semi-active setting to optimize off-road performance.
The Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro comes with Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tires, 120/70 R19 at both front and 170/60 R17 rear. These tires successfully merge two different fields of use: off-road racetracks and road riding and they are designed by keeping the demands of motorcyclists in mind. These tires contain an innovative tread pattern that combines off-road approach applied across the Scorpion lines with the experience grew by Pirelli in developing the Angel GT, Pirelli’s superb sport touring tire. The side grooves contain the new design to ensure better drainage in the rain.
In contrast, their layout and binary open shape of the central ones help in water drainage and traction as well as compared to previous models these tires ensure higher mileage without compromising cornering performance. The tire profiles have been derived directly from those used for Angle GT. Thanks to the shorter and wider contact patch, the pattern helps in reducing the treadwear thus ensuring extended mileage. The motorcycle contains a tubeless spoked wheel having aluminum rims with 40 cross-mounted spokes and gravity cast hubs.
