2018 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R Sports Motorcycle – Features and Specifications
Engine Features
The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R contains the 636 cc ultra-compact and low friction engine. It is the long-stroke engine that includes an increased performance over the number of competitors at all rpm and especially in the low-to-mid torque for outstanding rideability on city streets. The internal parts have been designed in the strong and small that reduces the power-robbing friction. The close cylinder pitch and compact crankcase result in the short and rigid engine. It is the compact engine that contributes significantly to the overall slim and compact chassis. The short-skirt forged pistons with light piston pins and thin connecting rod small end help in reducing weight for quicker revs.
The Tri-axis crankshaft and transmission shaft layout concentrate the engine mass to achieve the ultimate center of gravity. An all-new exhaust pre-chamber is positioned beneath the engine to help in the centralization of weight, plus it allows the use of smaller and lighter mufflers. An all-new airbox contributes to increased peak power and smooth power delivery. The long intake funnels help in boosting low-to-mid-range performance and powerful feeling. The ram-air duct is rigid, and it supports the instrument panel and mirrors that stays to eliminate brackets and reduce weights.
The central ram-air duct delivers the straight path to the airbox that reduces turbulence, plus it increases pressure for maximum intake efficiency. The long throttle bodies increase the distance between the primary and sub throttle valves for better throttle response. The new Keihin throttle bodies of 38 mm with dual-throttle valves offer optimum performance and readability. The sub-throttle is located before the main throttle in the throttle bore, plus it is controlled by ECU so that the DFI system contains a more precise throttle response, which is quite similar to constant velocity carburetor.
The Stainless steel exhaust comprises up of four stainless steel header pipes, which are connected by joint pipes for better low-to-mid range torque. The exhaust system helps in boosting the low-end and midrange power without sacrificing the top-end. The single right-side muffler lowers the overall center of gravity, and it helps in centralizing mass. The butterfly valve is located at the entrance to the muffler, and it is controlled by ECU using rpm. The valve also quiets its exhaust, so a smaller and lighter muffler can be used.
The transmission consists up of a short first gear ratio that makes it easy to move away from a stop. The gearbox consists up of 6-speed close-ratio transmission, which is removable as a cassette offering quick access for making changes in gearing. The new slipper clutch has been used that makes the overall ride full of fun. Using the rotational forces of the new clutch hub and pressure plate, the new grip is forced together during acceleration (Assist function). During high-back torque, the Slipper function allows some clutch slippage to helps prevent engine lock-up and stalling.
The Ninja ZX-6R features Kawasaki’s latest technology system, which comprises up of a traction control system, which is inspired by flagship Ninja ZX-14R. The newest Kawasaki Traction Control System (KTRC) contains a three-mode system that combines with the best features of Sport-KTRC, and it forms the Ninja ZX-10R and KTRC from Concours 14. Mode 1 and 2 control ignition timing like S-KTRC that uses complex analysis to predict when traction conditions are about to become unfavorable while mode 3 has a more significant level of sensitivity and controls ignition timing. The power mode allows the rider to set power characteristics that suit riding conditions and style.
Chassis Features
The new 2018 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R Sports Motorcycle features highly responsive chassis that contains a sophisticated suspension system. This suspension system has been designed in conjunction to provide the controlled and comfortable ride on the streets and highways while it allows the high cornering prowess for quick lap times. The frame and swingarm have been developed with an ideal stiffness balance. So, the bike responds instantly and precisely.
An aluminum perimeter frame is considered to be best for superb handling. The frame rigidity is being optimized that helps to prevent the road and track irregularities from upsetting the chassis. The frame provides plenty of rides, and it helps in absorbing impact without bothering handling. The steep 23.5-degree rake angle helps in sharp handling and more feedback from the front tire. The engine is attached in a perspective that helps in precise turning and effortless leaning into a turn.
The engine has been mounted into the position at the rear of the cylinder head that compliments the frame’s stiffness balance. The combination of pressed and cast aluminum components are welded to form the perimeter type frame. The frame weight is kept at a minimal level by combining the cast and pressed pieces. It will provide high strength and stability while responsive handling. The two-piece die-cast aluminum subframe is light and narrow.
The new Big Piston Separate Function Inverted Fork from Showa has been employed on the bike. They have springs in both legs while the preload and damping functions are separated into the right and left fork tubes. The preload adjustment is made on the left side during the rebound and compression damping on the right. The 37 mm of a piston that produces high damping force has been used that provides an improved performance during heavy braking. The pistons of 37 mm offer high damping force for better performance during heavy braking. The suspension settings are best for city riding and provide outstanding performance on tracks.
The latest Uni-Trak rear suspension ensures the best ratios and shock damping setting for the plus ride on both highways and street. An all-new cast aluminum swingarm has a perfect balance of stiffness and flex, and its words with frame’s stiffness balance in offering exceptional handling. The Showa rear shock provides preload, rebound damping, and compression adjustments as well as adjustable ride height.
The braking system contains radial-mounted Nissin Monobloc front brake calipers that utilize integrated attaching points at the top and bottom of each caliper. It makes the calipers more rigid for better braking performance. The Monobloc calipers are machined from the single aluminum block that provides a superb feel for increased heat dissipation and lighter weight. The front disc of 310 mm gives a robust braking performance. The direct action front master cylinder attaches the brake piston vertically between the front brake levers instead of having it parallel to the handlebars. The Nissin rear brake calipers having 30 mm disk from Ninja ZX-10R is light in weight, and it resists fade plus it provides greater control. The bikes come with ABS as standard.
