Monster
The Ducati Monster 1200S is one of those bikes on the planet that can cover all the essence of the original Monster. This bike features a compact, light, and sleek design with a powerful engine and world-class equipment. This motorcycle features a sporty attitude with class-leading performance. The 1993 naked models were the source of inspiration behind the design of this monster.
The Monster 1200S comes with new design and content, including the authentic Ducati naked flair. Its sleek tank provides an eye-catching view, and the fully redesigned sports-style tail offers an elegant appearance. An advanced headlight and first-rate electronics package is mainly derived from one of the Ducati 1299 Panigale.
Design
The primary objective behind this Ducati 1200S was to achieve the sleek and compact bike that has sportier character and perfect naked look. The tank style attains modern appearance with a fully overhauled design.
The new short, compact, and durable steel Trellis sub-frame provides superb support during the ride. The seat height is adjustable on 795 mm and 820 mm depending on the rider’s preference. The passenger footpegs support the sub-frame, and they are now separated from riders pegs. The new configuration makes this monster one of the best among the sporting line.
There is another impressive feature that makes this bike amazing is its headlight. The headlights have been completely redesigned, featuring dual parabolas and DRL (Day Time Running Light) too. The adoption of the beacon has led to the development of the new instrument panel, which is not attached to its handlebar risers. It provides the front end a visually lighter look thanks to the repositioning of the indicators. Also, this Ducati bike features the new switchgear.
There is another important step taken by the Ducati Design Center, and that is the simplification and reduction of the plastic parts. For this, the designers have now used the compact tank cover, the minimalist radiator cap, and the exhaust manifold guard.
Engine Features
The Ducati 2018 1200S features the liquid-cooled 1198 cm3 twin, four valves per cylinder Testastretta 11-degree DS. This Euro-4 compliant engine is one of the structural elements of the chassis set-up with attachment points on the Trellis frame. The engine delivers the vast 150 hp at 9,250 RPM. The new throttle bodies and dedicated exhaust ensure an impressive torque curve, which means more riding pleasure.
This engine gulps in the air with its Mikuni Ride-by-Wire oval throttle bodies, plus it features the twin-spark set-up. It is the double flame front, which ensures complete combustion within an ultra-short interval. This system works in conjunction with the secondary air system that optimizes performance by reducing combustion cycle dispersion without even affecting emission. The curved radiator helps in keeping the engine cools with its two high-efficiency electric fans.
This Ducati Monster clutch has an oil bath slipper type with an ultra-low effort lever control. The progressive self-servo system automatically improves its spring load. Its exhaust duct has a cross-section of 50-52 mm and a part of the 2-1-2 system, which is designed with an identical length for both cylinders to maximize the power and delivery efficiency. This new system has a lambda probe for each bottle to make the fueling both autonomous and optional.
The Ducati’s continuous investment in quality and reliability simply means that this engine requires lengthy maintenance internals while the valve timing adjustment is now needed just once per 30,000 km.
Frame

This configuration makes it a highly compact and light structure while the large cross-section tubing provides the high torsional rigidity, which is best for bringing out the bike’s dynamic performance. The Monster 1200S also enhances an all-new beefier swingarm and compact 1,485 mm wheelbase.
The rear seat-carrying sub-frame has been attached directly to the engine that has been redesigned to offer the compact structure that also supports the passenger footpeg struts. These pegs are separated from the rider’s pegs to guarantee freedom of movement. Both footpegs are made of die-cast aluminum and are attached to aluminum pegs. The rider’s pegs feature aluminum heel guards.
