Optimized Chassis Design

Engine
The Yamaha Power Valve System (YPVSTM) on the 85cc liquid-cooled, two-stroke engine provides consistent power across the rev range without sacrificing peak power at high RPMs, minimizing the need for frequent shifting. A 28mm Hitachi Asteco® Keihin flat-slide carburetor is inhaled via the crankcase’s spacer-style reed valve intake for increased air/fuel flow and smooth throttle response.
The new YPVS-equipped engine has been carefully mounted with the exhaust expansion chamber to optimize gas flow for improved power delivery, especially in the low and mid-range. Oversized gears in the transmission provide better engagement and smoother shifts. Large cores and louvers are seen in lightweight radiators. For best cooling effectiveness, the water pump uses an impeller made of cast aluminum rather than resin. The latest intake design allows for a straighter, more effective pull of air into the intake tract is made possible by advanced intake architecture. The high-flow air box guarantees excellent air filter performance and simple maintenance.
Chassis/Suspension
The 10.8 inches of travel on the compact 36mm KYB® inverted cartridge fork has adjustable compression and rebound damping. The damping settings improve performance across various riding circumstances and rider abilities since they come complete with low-friction outer tubes and internals. Fully adjustable KYB® link-type shocks with race-tested valves and 11.1 inches of travel are part of the rear suspension. Racing enthusiasts may charge harder and post faster lap times thanks to the progressive linkage-type design’s improved bottoming resistance. The YZ85 LW’s chassis is designed for challenging junior racers and is tuned for strength, stiffness, and overall handling stability.

Oversized wave-shaped brake discs provide better self-cleaning and cooler operation. The 190mm rear disc and 220mm front disc provide powerful, accurate stopping force. Additionally, the rear brake master cylinder has a built-in sub-reservoir for improved control and a more linear braking reaction. Lightweight wheels for the best suspension performance, 19-inch front and 16-inch rear rims are strong and light in weight. The Dunlop® MX3S tires provide outstanding traction on a variety of surfaces.
