Like the larger YZ125, the YZ85 has a new, lightweight aluminum rear frame, an updated aluminum swing arm, a new rear brake system, and an updated high-efficiency air intake. Engine

Engine

A 28mm Hitachi Asteco® Keihin flat-slide carburetor is inhaled via the crankcase’s spacer-style reed valve intake for increased air/fuel flow and smooth throttle response. The expansion Chamber is specially tuned with the exhaust expansion chamber, specifically designed to fit the YPVS-equipped engine, and optimizes gas flow for improved power delivery, particularly in the low- and mid-range. Oversized gears in the gearbox provide better engagement and smoother shifts. Large cores and louvers are seen in lightweight radiators. For best cooling effectiveness, the water pump uses an impeller made of cast aluminum rather than resin. An all-new innovative intake design helps for a straighter and more efficient draw of air into the intake tract. The high-flow airbox guarantees excellent air filter performance and easy maintenance.
Chassis/ Suspension
The 10.8 inches of travel on the compact 36mm KYB® inverted cartridge fork has adjustable compression and rebound damping. The damping settings improve performance across various riding circumstances and rider abilities since they come complete with low-friction outer tubes and internals. Fully adjustable KYB® link-type shocks with race-tested valves and 11.1 inches of travel are part of the rear suspension. Racing enthusiasts may charge harder and post faster lap times thanks to the progressive linkage-type design’s improved bottoming resistance.
The YZ85’s chassis is designed to challenge young racers and is tuned for strength, stiffness, and overall handling stability. The aluminum swingarm provides an elegant balance between longitudinal and torsional stiffness, and weight is decreased by the detachable rear subframe made of lightweight, high-strength aluminum. Oversized wave-shaped brake discs provide better self-cleaning and cooler operation. The 190mm rear disc and 220mm front disc provide powerful, accurate stopping force.
Additionally, the rear brake master cylinder has a built-in sub-reservoir for improved control and a more linear braking reaction. Lightweight wheels for the best suspension performance, light 17 inches front and 14 inches rear rims are strong and reduce unsprung weight. The Dunlop® MX3S tires provide outstanding traction on a variety of surfaces.
