2023 RM-Z450 Suzuki Dirt Motorcycle – Features and Specs
Engine
Suzuki’s fuel-injected 449cc, liquid-cooled, four-stroke, four-valve DOHC engine is the latest version of the company’s trusted, tried, and tested engine. The engine has excellent throttle response throughout the rev range thanks to its high peak horsepower and good torque at low engine speeds.

To maximize power output, the cylinder head intake port geometry creates massive turbulence when entering fuel/air. Efficiency is enhanced by the direct airflow to the throttle body, which is made possible by the large, upright opening of the air cleaner.
Suzuki’s state-of-the-art fuel injection system produces exceptional reliability, extreme fuel economy, and smooth power delivery. To improve the fuel/air charge atomization, the RM-Z450’s throttle body design places the fuel injector — fed by a high-pressure fuel pump — directly on the butterfly valve.
Thanks to this throttle body design, the rider experiences a more direct connection to the engine, which eliminates complex control connections. Power is increased at all engine speeds thanks to the intake camshaft profile, which has more valve lift than the 2022 Suzuki RM-Z450. A Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) coating is applied to the small aluminum cylinder for strength, lightweight, and efficient heat transfer.
The piston castings include reinforced ribs near the wrist pin bosses to match the component reliability with the engine’s high horsepower. A long kickstart lever, well-matched internal gear ratios, a vast air cleaner and breather system, and an accurate and efficient automatic decompression system (which eliminates the need for a bulky and expensive electric start system) all make for ease and convenience. The high-flow exhaust system conforms to acoustic standards set by the AMA.
Advance Electronic Features
Suzuki’s MX-Tuner 2.0, which makes it easy to modify fuel injection and ignition system settings for optional race performance, comes with the 2023 RM-Z450 Suzuki Dirt Motorcycle. Quickly adjusting fuel flow and ignition timing with the MX-Tuner is possible using a smartphone application that wirelessly connects to a small transmitter. The MX-Tuner application can pre-program custom settings into the ECM by inserting one of the included fuel couplers.
Tuners and racers can quickly adjust settings to keep up with performance updates. Multiple course or weather-specific settings can be saved through the application and shared with other racers. You can also get runtime and real-time engine data to monitor bike maintenance.
Reinforced resin engine shields protect rocks and debris from the stator cover (left side) and coolant pump (right side). Suzuki’s well-proven, user-friendly fuel couplers are also provided to make EFI tuning easy. Two couplers are included for easy fuel adjustment according to riding conditions. One is for fuel that is richer than stock, while the other is for fuel that is leaner than stock. Riders can quickly and easily adjust the gasoline level by connecting either coupler to the wiring harness. Has an advanced and efficient traction management system.
The Electronic Control Module (ECM) continuously measures throttle opening, engine speed, and gear position to fine-tune engine output and provide optimal traction for riding conditions. It then modifies the ignition timing and fuel injector timing. The RM-Z450‘s traction management system differs from the street bike in that it doesn’t measure the curvature of the rear tire.
A custom launch technology called Suzuki Holeshot Assist Control (S-HAC) was developed from the factory race bike to help the rider take off from the starting gate to gain an early advantage. Three launch modes are available, and riders can choose the one that best suits their starting conditions and skill level.
The S-HAC system has three phases in Mode A and Mode B. It helps motorcyclists take off, pass the gate, and accelerate. The 2023 RM-Z450 Suzuki Dirt Motorcycle’s S-HAC settings for Mode A are explicitly calibrated to support the rider’s throttle control during launch.
Mode A: For hard surfaces or slippery road conditions at the starting gate.
S-HAC modifies the ignition timing during the launch and gate ride to provide a smooth take-off and strong acceleration throughout the range. The mechanism shuts off after six seconds or when you shift into fourth gear; at this point, the ignition timing returns to normal.
Advantage of Mode A: Use Mode A for a more controlled launch if you are a new rider or the traction is tight and slick.
Mode B: A more aggressive launch is desired when conditions at the starting gate have better traction.
S-HAC will accelerate the ignition timing, providing better acceleration off the line and more throttle response. Ignition timing follows a similar pattern to Alternation Mode A, with higher overall timing. When you reach fourth gear, after six seconds, or when the throttle is closed, the system will usually turn the ignition back on, whichever comes first. After that, the device shuts down and resumes its regular ignition timing.
Mode B Advantage: Use Mode B for a more aggressive launch if you are a skilled rider or if conditions are suitable for a solid launch.
Base Mode: Standard power launch; no action is required on the S-HAC switch.
The engine’s efficient power delivery depends mainly on a lightweight, battery-free electronic fuel injection system optimized for motocross use.
Transmission Features
A well-tuned five-speed transmission makes precise gearshift action possible. A perfectly machined shift cam for accurate gear selection creates that precise transmission feel. Special machining techniques further enhance the precision of the associated gears.
The multi-plate weight clutch uses a rack and pinion clutch release mechanism to provide a precise sense of engagement and disengagement points while riding. The drive chain is precisely and efficiently routed through the lightweight chain guide design.
Chassis Features
The 2023 RM-Z450 Suzuki Dirt Motorcycle’s twin-spar frame and twin-beam swingarm design continue Suzuki’s heritage of producing the best-handling motocross vehicles. This twin-spar aluminum alloy frame incorporates cast and extruded components to balance strength and weight and create an optimal front-rear weight distribution. The frame is 700g (1.32 pounds) lighter than the previous model’s RM-Z450, which increases shock absorption and cornering ability while maintaining stable handling.
Thin but strong materials are used in the swingarm assembly for better cornering performance and stable handling. Quick and agile handling characteristics arise from the short wheelbase and frame head pipe position. The subframe features hexagonal aluminum rails for a lightweight, elegant look and accessible air filter maintenance.
The subframe rails curve upwards to accommodate the larger air cleaner and advanced BFRC shock absorbers and inwards to slim the bodywork. All bodywork, including the trim subframe, is slim, so the 2023 RM-Z450 Suzuki Dirt Motorcycle allows riders to move around the cockpit quickly, especially when riding spiritedly. A sophisticated suspension system from the GSX-R1000R Super Bike inspired the BFRC shock absorbers fitted to the 2023 RM-Z450 Suzuki Dirt Motorcycle.
The BFRC uses an independent, external damping circuit to increase damping force response, providing better traction and better absorption on bumps. Peace of mind: The Showa coil spring front fork features rod pipes and larger inner tubes for strength and longevity. Large, adjustable damping cylinders combined with springs in each fork leg give the rider a strong sense of control and better response to terrain.
Balanced and straightforward tuning and maintenance of the front suspension greatly benefit the ride. The lightweight upper fork bracket was designed to work in tandem with the Showa coil spring handlebars and front suspension.
A large twin-piston caliper and 270mm wave-style front brake rotor provide adequate stopping power and feel. To reduce dirt contamination and the possibility of the rider’s boot coming into contact with it while riding, the trim rear brake master cylinder hugs the frame beam.
Bridgestone Battlecross X30 tires, designed for the racetrack, are fitted to the 2023 RM-Z450 Suzuki Dirt Motorcycle to support its powerful engine, excellent braking, and handling capabilities.
The wheels feature black anodized rims cross-sectioned to reduce unsprung weight without sacrificing strength. To create a sense of speed while reducing weight and simplifying maintenance, Suzuki’s beak-inspired styling features a raised tail, a sharper front fender, and radiator shrouds that integrate into the side covers. The motorcycle’s slim frame and practical appearance allow for various riding positions that improve comfort and handling.
The previous model, i.e., the 2022 RM-Z450 Suzuki‘s metal fuel tank, was half the weight of the plastic tank. It has a fuel capacity of 1.7 US gallons. The side cover, inner fender, and seat base aim to keep dirt and moisture away from the air cleaner. It helps keep the air filter element clean from debris contamination. Constructed from a unique density foam, the seat is narrow and contoured to help the rider maintain control of the motorcycle.
A large blue gripper panel runs from the nose to the tail on the seat cover. The Champion Yellow bodywork is improved with a graphics package that includes the Suzuki emblem and an eye-catching stripe.
