The FTR Sport epitomizes what a motorcycle should be with its sleek and muscular design. Unlike any other barebones bike on the market, its lower “flyline”—which runs from the front of the tank, along the seat, to the end of the tail—was directly inspired by our flat track heritage. Modern American performance art does not contradict this. The new 2023 Indian FTR Sport Urban Motorcycle is also included among the list of Top Ten Best Indian Motorcycles in 2023.
2023 Indian FTR Sport Urban Motorcycle – Features and Specs
2023 Updates
While the Thunderstroke and Power Plus models receive some changes, the Indian Scout and Scout Sixty lines remain unchanged for 2023. A new slipper clutch is added with all Thunderstroke and Power Plus models, including all heavyweight Cruiser, Bagger, and Full Dresser models. According to Indian, this new clutch will improve overall feel, make downshifting smoother, and reduce clutch fatigue with a larger friction zone and a lighter pull. Roadmaster, Pursuit, Chieftain, Challenger, and Springfield models will get a new LED headlight with a broader spread to improve visibility. India’s Premium Package for Pursuit models now features lower fairing storage, and glove-wearing riders can directly respond to buttons controlling the heated and cooled seats.
Poised for Thrills
What makes the FTR Sport exceptional is its distinctive, high-revving, liquid-cooled American V-twin nature. With 120 horsepower and 87 ft-lbs of torque with a torque curve as thick as it is flat, it wins where the rider wants it and pulls viciously into the next turn.
Look Fast, Even Standing Still
The FTR range offers world-class performance with a bike that feels small and elegant thanks to its carefully tuned engine, street-tuned chassis, and 17-inch tires and wheels.
The Intersection of Style and Performance
American flat track heritage is carried forward with enhancements to the recognizable FTR platform, raising the bar for road performance, accessibility, and control. This unusual American V-twin is ready for your upcoming weekend getaway.
4-inch Touchscreen powered by Ride Command
The class-leading and industry-first 4-inch Touchscreen powered by RIDE COMMAND combines advanced function with design detail, intuitive search navigation, and Bluetooth® tethering.
The Best Ride-enhancing Tech
Lane-angle-sensitive stability and maximum thrills are achieved with three riding modes (Sport, Standard, and Rain). In every situation, Control and ABS deliver reliable, predictable handling. Additionally, there is wheel damping, cornering pre-control, and traction control. Traction control and wheel damping are easily turned off if your inner demon wants to spice things up.
Confidence Inspiring Riding Position
The FTR Sport, first modeled after our championship-winning, ultra-specialist FTR 750 flat-track racer, is perfect for the ultimate in-street performance, where real riders rule. Metzeler® Sportec rubber keeps you firmly glued to the road front and rear of these lightweight, easily shockable 17-inch cast wheels.
Stopping Power
The FTR Sport stands out from the crowd because of its exposed rear shock and fully adjustable 43mm inverted front fork. Massive Brembo® 4-piston monobloc calipers, specially calibrated for fantastic control and stopping power, grip dual 320mm rotors. Stopies are only available with two fingers if you choose to use them.
Make FTR Sport Your Own
FTR Sport is a versatile and valuable tool for all your two-wheeled needs, the Swiss Army Knife® of the motorcycle world. And you can enhance the FTR Sport’s performance even more with genuine factory accessories. Customizing the FTR Sport is easy and allows you to build it exactly how you want it, whether your goals are more performance, an upscale appearance, better comfort, or a specific function.
Indian FTR Models and the New FTR Sport
The FTR Sport has also appeared for the first time, replacing the Indian FTRS. To spice up the model’s design language, the new FTR Sport features a three-tone livery, chin fairing, seat cowl, and number plate. The Edge FTR Sport will cost more than the FTR Rally and FTR base models, but below the FTR R Carbon variants.
Now available on the FTR Sport and FTR Rally variants is the 4-inch circular touchscreen display we’ve been enjoying on some flagship models. Low-sensitivity traction control, ABS, and three riding modes—Rain, Sport, and Standard—will all be standard on these vehicles.
As with the Indian heavyweight lineup, the new clutch for all four FTR models enhances performance and feel. Although the speedometer has been raised to increase visibility, the chassis and engine are identical across all models.
Before that, the base model FTR was just matte black with a slight red accent, and it felt deliberately uninteresting. With this update for 2023, the cheapest FTR gets a significant makeover and a lot more visual appeal. It is now available in glossy black with neon green accents or shiny gray with brilliant orange/red accents.
