2023 Honda Super Cub C125 ABS Scooter – Features and Specs
Easy. Simple. Stylish.
For more than 60 years, the Super Cub has offered millions of people throughout the globe simple, reliable transportation. With decades of reputation, it has never followed trends but has always set the standard for utility, affordability, and outright endurance. It is a scooter that exudes classic flair and is just as functional as it ever was, genuine down to the last bolt, and utterly contemporary in every aspect, with a brand-new, air-cooled engine that produces greater power and improves fuel efficiency, together with modernized, smooth-riding suspension.
A Machine for Life
The handlebars are placed on rubber, the seat is high-density urethane foam for comfort, and the upright, straight-backed riding posture provides a superb all-around view. A new fuel-injected, air-cooled engine produces more power with a pleasant delivery. It uses less gasoline even more effectively. Like the original model, a four-speed gearbox’s twist-and-go operation is made easy by an automated centrifugal clutch. Reliable handling is provided by the tubular steel frame, telescopic forks, dual rear shocks (each with upgraded springs), cast aluminum, 17-inch wheels, and tubeless tires. Full LED lighting and Honda Smart Key are high-end features, and the Super Cub C125 has a pillion seat already fitted for versatility.
Time Machine
Soichiro Honda strongly desires to make people’s lives more enjoyable via mobility. The Super Cub, which he created, has endured for 60 years and produced over 100 million units. The Super Cub C125 is a sleek, modern version of a groundbreaking machine that’s worked so hard for so many for so long; it’s because of its practical brilliance that you can still find it on European streets today.
Design / Styling
As usual, the Super Cub C125 ABS has an S-letter shape that extends from the steal rear fender to the step-through area, keeping with Honda’s time-tested Super Cub style, which is described by the phrase “universality” (ease of use for a wide variety of individuals). With the rider upright and near the bottom fairing, there is excellent wind protection, yet the Super Cub is still simple to mount and dismount.
On congested city streets, an upright riding posture gives the rider the best view, while a pocket on the right side provides storage for necessities. In a nod to the wing-shaped handlebar of the original machine, the forged, tapered handlebar is placed comfortably. It is covered in curvy molded resin including the display and instrumentation. The seat is made of thick, high-density urethane foam for comfort, and it is narrower towards the front so that the rider’s feet may contact the ground more quickly.
The Super Cub C125’s headlamp design is identical to that of the original Super Cub thanks to the use of compact LED LEDs. An inner ring of the instrument display has information in a modest digital form, including two trip meters and a six-segment fuel-level indicator. In contrast, the outside ring of the instrument display houses an analog speedometer.
The motorbike may be operated without a Honda Smart Key being entered, and it also controls the vehicle’s theft deterrent. The Super Cub can be easily located in crowded parking lots thanks to the key’s “answer back” feature, which makes the turn signals light when a button is pushed. The legend also enables electronic seat locking. The key fob is crowned with a vintage three-dimensional Classic Wing logo as an homage to the motorcycle’s ancestors.
Engine / Drivetrain
The 124cc air-cooled, four-stroke engine of the Super Cub C125 ABS is solid and reliable. It blends the SOHC, two-valve top end of the new Grom, with the bottom end from the existing Japanese-market C110. The 124cc engine is fuel-efficient, quiet, and provides excellent power for riding around town. It is less undersquare than its predecessor, with a bore and stroke of 50.0mm and 10.0:1 compression. PGM-FI feeds the engine and generates usable, pleasurable power across the whole rpm range while maintaining excellent fuel efficiency.
The airbox was created to complement the engine. It increases drivability with the connecting tube and injector location by smoothing the airflow on the clean side of the filter.
With the increase in combustion efficiency, a single, more efficient catalyzer replaces the pair of catalyzers used with the previous exhaust. Yet, the external look of the muffler—one of the many components of the Super Cub’s “mythology”—remains unchanged. The performance and efficiency of the ECU have been optimized, and the alternator output has been raised.
The gearbox has four gears (neutral is at the bottom) and, in keeping with Super Cub lore, is driven by an automated centrifugal clutch, which does not need a clutch lever. At a standstill, the rider merely chooses the appropriate gear with the left foot lever; when the throttle is raised, the clutch engages automatically and does so throughout each ratio shift, whether it be an increase or decrease. A helical primary gear with 14 and 35 teeth, respectively, on the front and rear sprockets decreases mechanical noise. The engine features a high-quality shift-drum bearing, shift-arm rubber, and improved clutch-damper rubber composition for optimal shift feel and less shift noise.
Chassis / Suspension
The Super Cub has long been known for its simple, enjoyable handling. To achieve this, the rigidity balance of its tubular steel “backbone” frame has been precisely adjusted around the headstock and between the engine mounting positions. The handlebar, seat, and foot pegs have rubber mountings for comfort and vibration-dampening.
The suspension travel is 3.3 inches, and the dual shocks are color-matched to the body. The suspension stroke of the 26mm telescopic fork is 3.5 inches as well.
The sophisticated 17-inch die-cast aluminum wheels include rims and spokes that have been machined and were created using a specific cutting technique to allow for the installation of a tubeless tire; the front and rear tire sizes are 70/90-17 and 80/90-17, respectively. A 220 mm front disc with ABS and a 110 mm rear drum provide stopping force.
For predictable handling, the wheelbase is 48.9 inches, while the rake and trail are 26° and 2.8 inches, respectively. With a wet weight of 238 pounds and a seat height of 30.7 inches, the Super Cub is both simple to mount and gives riders confidence while riding about town.
