The Cota models are elite machines that can tackle the most challenging parts conceivable; they are designed, developed, and built in Barcelona, Spain, the unofficial city of trials and the site of Montesa’s factory. That’s why Toni Bou, who helped design the Honda-affiliated 4RT 301RR and 4RT260R, sticks with Montesa every time he competes in the FIM World Trials. This matched set of models will satisfy the requirements of any trial rider.
Ask Toni Bou, 16-time (and counting!) World Champion of Trials Riding, and he will tell you that the Montesa Cota is the indisputable monarch of trial horses. It’s no surprise that the Cota 4RT 301RR is so powerful, given that it combines the 298cc Honda engine with Montesa’s renown for engineering excellence. This year, in addition to the standard 301RR, a 4RT 301RR Race Replica is available, allowing you to customize your bike with a carbon fiber clutch cover and exhaust guard, making it lighter and more suited to your riding style. A new solid rear sprocket and an optional lighting kit are new this year on both models, and the back suspension has also been fine-tuned. The Montesa Cota 4RT 260R is an excellent option for the occasional trials rider and is available while you’re here.
2023 Honda Montesa Cota 4RT 301RR Dirt Bike – Features and Specs
PGM-FI Engine
Fuel-injected power that is simple to regulate makes the Honda Montesa Cota 4RT 301RR and 301RR Race Replica suitable for trail riding. The 298cc four-stroke engine is very versatile, with lots of power and torque over the whole rpm range, and it has been tuned specifically for low-rpm responsiveness. The engine’s robust power curve is primarily due to the high-pressure fuel pump.
Kickstart Lever
The Cota 4RT 301RR and the Race Replica, equipped with a lengthy kickstart lever, allow for simple, one-kick starts wherever on the course.
Three-Ring Piston
Better sealing and increased longevity are provided by the three-ring piston found in the 4RT 301RR Race Replica. Lightweight and flat-topped, the piston improves combustion efficiency and dampens vibrations at low engine speeds.
Premium Suspension
Showa® fork and Showa® rear shock are standard on both Montesa 301RR variants because they enhance handling and overall feel.
Brakes and Wheels
The 32-spoke wheels and 4-piston Monoblock front brake caliper are standard on the Montesa Cota 4RT 301RR and the 301RR Race Replica. A tubeless rear tire is possible on the Cota thanks to the rear wheel’s revolutionary central-adjustment spoke system, contributing to the bike’s overall lightweight design. Premium Michelin X11 tires, laser-engraved hubs, and lightweight DID aluminum wheels equip the Cota 4RT 301RR Race Replica.
Dual-Map ECU
Does your route alternate between areas with excellent and lousy traction? You may easily choose between two power delivery maps on the 4RT 301RR and 301RR Race Replica by flipping a switch on the handlebar. The engine control unit (ECU) has been explicitly programmed to enhance throttle responsiveness at low and medium rpm on this bike.
Advanced Engineering
The digital ignition system in the Cota’s’ Honda engine doesn’t need a battery and has a bank-angle sensor that turns off the engine when the motorcycle is on its side. A magnetic kill switch is included in the Cota 4RT 301RR and the 301RR Race Replica.
Chassis
The aluminum chassis of the Cota 4RT 301RR and the 301RR Race Replica is beautifully finished, drawing attention to the car’s timeless good looks and high standards of craftsmanship. The Showa® fork of the Cota 4RT 301RR Race Replica may be adjusted to soft settings, much like the ones the factory riders use. To prevent damage from collisions and give the rider more room to maneuver, the silencer has strengthened mounts, and the rear brake pedal is shorter.
Top-flight protection
Carbon fiber clutch manifold guards are included in the Competition Only Optional Parts Kit. A single bolt secures the brackets for the brake and clutch levers, and both the rear and front brake levers are tool-free and adjustable.
Sure, footed support
Strong and lightweight, the forged aluminum side stand has a triangular cross-section. It installs in a protected location near the engine and slides beneath the swingarm.
Front and rear Showa suspension
The 310mm ground clearance is complemented with a premium SHOWA front fork with a 39mm diameter and 158mm stroke. In addition, the revised SHOWA shock absorber in the back is controlled via Pro-Link. The spring preload and compression damping of the front and rear suspensions are individually adjustable.
Strong four-stroke engine
The flat-topped, three-ring piston of the Montesa Cota 301RR’s fuel-injected, four-valve, 298cc four-stroke engine improves the engine’s torque and efficiency at low RPM. The breather and ignition map help lessen engine braking.
