Honda’s CRF450X may appear similar to our CRF450R moto crosser (particularly with this year’s revised graphics). Still, it is a whole separate machine explicitly designed for off-road, cross-country competition like the Baja 1000 or the World Off-Road Championships. Despite having the same Unicam® engine created as our ‘R’ model motocrossers, the CRF450X is better suited for off-road riding because of its wide-ratio six-speed gearbox and off-road-oriented steering geometry. An 18-inch rear wheel allows for a wider variety of off-road tires, a side stand and hand guards come standard, the engine control unit (ECU) and fuel injection settings are altered, the fuel tank is more prominent, and there is a skid plate, among other customizations. The 2023 Honda CRF450X Dirt Motorcycle is the top dog from coast to coast and everywhere.
SLR Honda riders Justin Morgan, Mark Samuels, Kendall Norman, and Brandon Prieto rode the CRF450X to victory in the 2021 edition of the Baja 1000, making it the undisputed king of the iconic off-road race. Preston Campbell, a rider for JCR Honda, campaigns the CRF450X in the AMA NHHA series, and with good reason: it’s an excellent trail machine, complete with a side stand, 18-inch rear wheel, headlight, sealed chain, and six-speed gearbox, and legal to ride off-road in all 50 states all year long.
2023 Honda CRF450X Dirt Motorcycle – Features and Specs
Engine / Drivetrain
Unicam® engine, displacing 449.7 cc, tuned for off-road use Its finger rocker arm contributes to its tiny footprint, and its purpose-built construction ensures it has enough power for off-road use. The DLC coating on the surface decreases friction. It has specialized valve timing for consistent control over challenging terrain. Superior power delivery in rugged terrain thanks to a high crank inertia (up 12% over the CRF450R). The compression ratio is 12.1:1. Three-ringed piston design the six-speed, wide-ratio gearbox can handle any off-road condition. Durability in extreme environments is ensured by the use of high-strength materials in the construction process. Unique clutch engineering allows for little lever effort. The engine’s torque is kept steady by a primary damper system made of friction springs. Powerful performance in extreme off-road situations thanks to a specially tuned ECU and massive radiators with excellent heat exchange efficiency Exhaust system created specifically for optimal responsiveness at low RPM by optimizing pipe length and diameter.
Chassis / Suspension
Lightweight aluminum twin-spar trail frame with geometry optimized for agility and stability—Showa 49mm fork with extreme terrain settings. The Front brake design is based on the CRF450R, but it has its master cylinder and hose for better off-road performance. Increased capacity lightweight lithium-ion battery for use in lights, compared to the CRF450R The damper system on the front and rear sprockets ensures silent, vibration-free operation. A shut-off valve on the fuel tank lid stops petrol from leaking if the motorcycle is tipped over. The box for electrical components is conveniently located on the frame’s left side. Renthal handlebar in shiny grey with a red grip Miniature, low-mass, handlebar-mounted switches In-mold decals have a long lifespan and are not easily damaged by water or wear and tear. These fork guards are explicitly designed for off-road use. Dunlop MX52 tires excel in traction and feel across various terrains and weather situations.
