The 2022 DR-Z400SM Suzuki Super Moto is based on the popular DR-Z400S. That’s why it’s so impressive; it’s got all the style and performance of a Supermotard but in a package that’s perfectly legal for the road. This bicycle brings the excitement and freedom of off-road riding to regular routes. The Super Moto is home to rush-hour traffic, twisting canyon roads, and dense forest paths.
Its 398cc, liquid-cooled, four-stroke engine is ideal for these situations because of its low-rpm solid torque and responsive throttle. The primary differences between the DR-Z400SM and DR-Z400S are the inverted front fork, the big, spoked wheels, and the 300mm diameter floating front brake rotor. Due to its inverted fork, massive brake, bigger wheels, and high-grip tires, this sportbike delivers an exciting ride.
2022 DR-Z400SM Suzuki Super Moto – Features and Specs
Key Features
Suzuki’s Supermotard model, based on the reliable DR-Z400S, combines Supermotard attributes and aesthetics in a small, light, and legal for-the-street package. The 398cc, DOHC, liquid-cooled, dry-sump engine may be started with the push of a button.
The Super Moto has fully adjustable MX-style suspension and high-grip sport bike tires set on sturdy spoke wheels with anodized aluminum Excel rims. Angular embellishments stand out against the motorcycle’s choice of a solid Black or Solid Special White No. 2 body.
Engine Features
The lightness of the 398cc, DOHC, liquid-cooled, dry-sump engine allows it to provide robust and tractable power. The cylinder head has four valves, 28 degrees of included valve angle, 29 mm exhaust valves, and a shim-under-bucket system for valve adjustment.
Simplified electric starting is enabled by a small, lightweight starter motor equipped with an automatic mechanical decompression system. When compared to an iron liner, a nickel-silicon-phosphorus (SCEM)-plated cylinder is lighter and more durable, and has better heat transfer characteristics.
Forged aluminum pistons benefit from increased oil cooling thanks to a crankcase oil jet, making them 10% lighter than their cast counterparts while maintaining the same power output.
Mikuni 36mm carburetors include a deceleration enrichened circuit that helps smooth out throttle response while starting up and stopping the engine. A six-liter air tank supplies the air for it. The left body cover quickly detaches for easy access to the air filter.
A PAIR (air supply) system attached to the exhaust allows the motorcycle to meet emission standards without compromising performance. To help maintain a steady engine temperature, a thermostatically controlled cooling fan is installed in the left radiator.
Magnesium alloy covers for the bike’s magneto, clutch, and cylinder heads help keep the bike’s weight down.
Transmission Features
Clutch maintenance is easier on a compact five-speed gearbox using a cable-operated clutch with a magnesium outer shell. A long-lasting, low-maintenance O-ring drive chain creates almost no noise when pedaling and is completely sealed.
Chassis Features
On the broad, black-anodized RK Excel aluminum wheels with stainless steel spokes, you’ll find sporty radial tires measuring 120/70-R17 in the front and 140/70-R17 in the rear.
A front disc brake provides powerful stopping capacity with a massive 300mm floating-type rotor and two-piston calipers, and a rear disc brake with a 240mm rotor and a single-piston caliper.
Long travel, adjustable compression/rebound damping, and a special coating on the inner tube surfaces are just a few features of the Showa inverted front fork found on the RM250.
Accurate rear wheel control is achieved with a tapered aluminum swing arm styled after RM and a fully adjustable rear shock absorber, including high/low-speed compression damping adjustment. The Renthal tapered aluminum handlebar is perfect for intense riding because of its aggressive design, minimal vibration, and great bend.
The Supermotard riding style may be accommodated by a lightweight, torsionally chrome-moly solid steel frame. The backbone tube, the front down tube, and the steering head gussets all contribute to the dry-sump engine oil tank.
The lightweight and easily maintained aluminum sub-frame is a bolt-on addition to the streamlined form of the rear fenders. Rotating mirrors and axle sliders in the front and rear help avoid damage in a rollover.
The off-road DR-Z400 inspires the bike’s sleek black and white bodywork, which includes slick graphics that make them seem suited for the track. A bag holding the vehicle’s toolkit, owner’s manual, and other necessities may be found on the rear bumper.
Electrical Features
Small digital gauge cluster with an odometer, twin trip meters, clock, stopwatch, and time addition/subtraction functions. The on-road legal lighting system includes a powerful 60/55-watt halogen headlight, a compact tail/stoplight, lightweight rubber-mounted turn signals, and a horn.
The electrical systems, including the push-button starter, are all powered by a compact, 6.5-amp, maintenance-free battery.
Additional Features
The 12-month warranty is on parts alone. The Suzuki Extended Protection Plan provides coverage for longer periods and includes other benefits (SEP).
Genuine Suzuki Accessories for the DR-Z400SM include various seats, racks, and guards, as well as apparel with the Suzuki logo.
