Top Features

The XSR900TM combines Yamaha’s world-class engineering with outstanding neo-retro design, resulting in a new kind of motorbike for riders seeking a genuine and honest motorcycle without sacrificing performance. With exposed aluminum features, retro-inspired bodywork, a stepped seat, and bespoke lighting and instruments, the XSR exudes elegance, drawing inspiration from Yamaha’s legendary “XS” line of bikes.

Based on the MT-09TM, the XSR900 has an exciting 847cc Crossplane Crankshaft Concept liquid-cooled inline 3-cylinder, DOHC, 4-valve-per-cylinder engine. With a thrilling, torquey, and quick-revving engine nature, the small motor provides the most delicate balance of both 2- and 4-cylinder types.

The XSR900 blends traditional styling with cutting-edge performance. The rider can get the most of the powerful engine and chassis thanks to ride-by-wire YCC-T® engine control, customizable D-MODE throttle response, and an adjustable Traction Control System.

Thanks to its sportbike-spec brakes backed up by ABS, the XSR900 offers excellent and assured braking power. The sport-oriented design of the thin aluminum frame allows for light and agile handling. The rider may modify their XSR900 to fit the road conditions and personal preferences thanks to the adjustable front and rear suspension.

Engine

The 847cc liquid-cooled inline 3-cylinder, DOHC, 4-valve-per-cylinder Crossplane Crankshaft Concept engine used in the XSR900 is based on the MT-09. The small motor has a torquey and quick-revving engine nature thanks to its 78mm x 59.1mm diameter and stroke and 11.5:1 compression ratio.

Yamaha’s Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) provides precise throttle control, and Yamaha’s selectable D-MODE enables the rider to change engine character on the fly. STD Mode is designed to suit various riding situations, while A Mode provides a sharper throttle response in the low-to-mid-rpm range and B Mode provides a gentler throttle response.

By adjusting the bike’s ignition timing, fuel injection, and throttle valve opening depending on wheel speeds, the XSR900’s Traction Control System allows the rider to go on the gas with greater confidence. There are three modes to choose from: Mode “1” provides for minimum involvement, “2” allows for maximum intervention, and “OFF” turns the system off entirely.

The motor employs a geared counterbalancer that rotates in the opposite direction as the crankshaft to minimize vibration and create a smooth, contemporary engine character. The XSR900 uses fracture-split connecting rods for maximum accuracy and performance, much like Yamaha’s racetrack-developed supersport bikes. The fracture-split technique breaks a connecting rod’s big-end ring in half with a strong impact, resulting in a precisely matching surface when fastened around the crankshaft.

The engine’s intake funnels were built with three unequal lengths to produce the XSR900’s powerful mid-range torque and distinct intake sound. The XSR900 offers its rider the ‘right-now push suitable for street riding combined with the YCC-T system. The 6-speed gearbox of the XSR900 makes full use of the inline triple’s low-to-mid-range torque and outstanding responsiveness while also complementing the compact 3-cylinder architecture.

The XSR900 has a sophisticated assist-and-slipper clutch mechanism that increases clamping force while reducing back-torque. It enables the use of lighter clutch springs, resulting in a 20% reduction in clutch lever effort, as well as the decrease of rear-wheel hop during severe deceleration.

Chassis/Suspension

The XSR900 combines Yamaha’s world-class engineering with outstanding neo-retro design, resulting in a new kind of motorbike for riders seeking a genuine and honest motorcycle without sacrificing performance. With exposed aluminum features, retro-inspired bodywork, a stepped seat, and bespoke lighting and instruments, the XSR exudes elegance, drawing inspiration from Yamaha’s legendary “XS” line of bikes. The aluminum chassis has a sport-oriented wheelbase with rake and trail geometry that combines with the small 3-cylinder engine to produce light and agile handling under the sleek bodywork.

For a fully adjustable ride, both the front and rear suspension systems include spring preload and rebound damping settings. An inverted fork with 41mm inner tubes offers 5.4 inches of travel upfront. In comparison, a rear linkage-type mono-shock with 5.1 inches of rear-wheel travel utilizes a nearly horizontal arrangement for better mass-centralization. The sportbike-spec front brakes, consisting of twin floating 298mm discs with radially-mounted 4-piston calipers and a 245mm rear disc, offer excellent braking power on the XSR900. Under severe deceleration, ABS prevents wheel lock. A new 120/70ZR17 front tire and a 180/55ZR17 rear tire are mounted on lightweight 10-spoke cast-aluminum wheels for exceptional traction.

Additional Features

A digital tachometer, speedometer, gear position, eco mode indicator, TCS and D-MODE indicators, ambient and coolant temperature, a fuel gauge, and a variety of trip computer functions such as a clock, instant, and fuel reserve trip meter, average fuel consumption, and the usual trip meters are all displayed on the round LCD panel. A vast, round multi-reflector headlamp in the front, complete with fancy metal supports, offers both style and lighting, while a rounded all-LED tail and brake light is placed above the rear fender.

For a classic appearance, a small 3.7-gallon gasoline tank with offset fuel filler is encased by elegantly sculpted and hand-finished aluminum covers. A broad, tapered aluminum handlebar provides a comfortable upright riding posture, dished seat, and forged aluminum foot controls, making it perfect for city traffic or dashing down a twisting route.

The single-piece stepped saddle with an embroidered “XSR900” emblem, the traditional teardrop mirrors with great rearward vision, the small radiator flanked by exposed aluminum covers, and the front fender with its retro-influenced metal supports are all examples of Yamaha’s attention to detail. Every time you glance at the XSR900, you’ll want to take another look.
