Key Features

The 645cc, 90-degree V-twin engine is cooled by liquid and has a lot of torque at low and middle rpm. At high rpm, it has a strong surge of power that is great for any riding task.

Suzuki’s Advanced Traction Control System, Low RPM Assist, Easy Start System, and ABS technology make a great motorcycle even better.

The multifunction, light-adjustable instrument panel gives the rider a lot of information in a clear way and makes it easier to set up rider-assist features. Effective fairing with vertically stacked headlights, an adjustable windshield, and the iconic Suzuki DR-Big style adds true adventure style and real-world function.

Solid and light, the chassis has built-in mount points for unified Suzuki V-Strom luggage that is easy to put on and off and keeps the bike slim when it’s time to go on a tour.

With its new Candy Daring Red paint job and vertically stacked headlights, adjustable windshield, and iconic Suzuki DR-Big style, the effective fairing with vertically stacked headlights and iconic Suzuki DR-Big style adds true adventure style and real-world function.

Engine Features

The V-Strom 650’s DOHC, liquid-cooled engine is based on the SV650 and has been tuned to give clean, strong power at any rpm. Low-friction resin-coated pistons and SCEM-coated cylinders help the engine go a long way for a touring range that is the best in its class.

The engine cover hardware and a few other fasteners are made to be used with either Torx or regular hex tools. The 2-into-1 exhaust system is sleek and goes under the chassis to save weight, keep the mass in the center, and make room for a narrow tail section (and optional luggage).

The exhaust system has two catalyzers and uses O2 feedback to the EFI system to get the most efficient combustion and a shallow level of emissions. Suzuki’s innovative Dual Throttle Valve (SDTV) is used on 39mm throttle bodies in the fuel injection system. A servo motor controls the secondary throttle valves to keep the flow of power smooth.

Each throttle body has ten-hole, long-nose fuel injectors that help break up the fuel so it burns more efficiently and uses less energy.

Suzuki’s Throttle-body Integrated Idle Speed Control (TI-ISC) keeps the engine’s idle speed stable and helps reduce pollution. The system is small and easy to carry.

The V-Strom 650’s TI-ISC features “Suzuki Low RPM Assist.” It smooths out the power delivery at low speeds and when starting the bike. It also makes it less likely that the rider will stop the motorcycle. The Engine Control Module (ECM) is a state-of-the-art way to manage the engine. It has better settings to match the updated intake and exhaust systems, which makes the car use less gas and respond more smoothly to the throttle.

The engine’s heads use dual spark technology and have two high-energy, slim electrode spark plugs in each cylinder. It helps the engine burn fuel more efficiently and make more power.

Suzuki’s Advanced Traction Control System is built into the V-Strom 650. This system lets the rider control the throttle more confidently in different riding conditions. It constantly checks the speed of the front and back wheels, the throttle opening, the speed of the engine, and the selected transmission gear to change the engine output if the revolutions start to spin.

There are three unique traction control modes: 1, 2, and OFF. What makes each mode different is how sensitive it is to the road conditions. Mode 1 is the least acute setting and is best for skilled riders or when the road surface is good (riding on good, smooth roads). Mode 2 is the most sensitive setting and is best for routes where the grip may be limited (wet or cold surfaces). OFF turns off all of the traction control features.

This V-Strom also has the Suzuki Easy Start System, which lets the rider start the bike with the quick press of the start button, even when the transmission is in neutral, without pulling the clutch lever.

The small radiator is surrounded by wind-directing plates that help it cool better and send heat away from the rider’s legs through the side vents. With tight first to fifth gear ratios and a tall sixth gear for cruising on the highway, the six-speed transmission is suitable for sporty rides. Standard is a sealed O-ring drive chain that is easy to keep up and lasts a long time.

Chassis Features

With vertically stacked headlights and a more robust internal structure, the V-Strom 650’s beak-shaped fairing helps it cut through the wind and protect the rider in style. The three-way height-adjustable windscreen was tested in a wind tunnel to reduce wind noise, rider fatigue, and buffeting.

The fuel tank can hold 5.3 gallons, but it is thin at the back so it flows into the narrower seat. It makes it extremely easy for the rider to touch the ground when stopping. Both the 49-state and California versions have the same amount of gas because the fuel tank’s insides and cap have been changed.

The large seat can fit two people and has a smooth, non-slip surface and an embossed Suzuki V-Strom logo. The lightweight and rigid twin-spar aluminum frame and swingarm make the bike easy to steer and stable.

The 43mm front forks and link-style rear suspension can be adjusted for spring preload, and the spring preload adjuster can be turned by hand. The Adventure-spec Bridgestone Battlax 19-inch front and 17-inch rear tubeless radial tires make for good performance all around. The wheels are light and have ten spokes.

Dual 310mm disc brakes up front and a 260mm disc brake in the back give the car good stopping power. The compact Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) keeps track of the speed of each wheel so that the brakes can be adjusted to the amount of traction available.

The lightweight luggage rack is made of resin and has grab bars that are easy to hold. It also lines up with the part of the seat where the passenger sits, giving a larger surface for carrying cargo or luggage.

Electrical Features

The LED backlighting on the large analog tachometer, digital speedometer, and LCD data display can be changed on the multifunction instrument panel. LCD readouts include an odometer, dual trip meter, traction control modes, gear position, coolant and ambient temperature, fuel consumption, a fuel gauge, and a clock. With the switch on the left handlebar, you can change from one reading to another.

LED indicators feature an ABS alert and a freeze warning icon. These, along with the air temperature display, let the driver know that the road might be icy. A robust three-phase charging system charges the 10Ah maintenance-free battery. It makes it easy to start and gives you more power for accessories. Under the seat is a separate fuse for the accessories.

The 65/55-watt halogen headlamps are stacked and light up the road when your ride goes late into the night. The LED brake and tail light is bright and can withstand shaking. Amber incandescent bulbs with clear lenses are used in the turn signals. On the inside dash is a useful 12-volt DC accessory outlet.

Additional Features

Genuine Suzuki Accessories feature side and top cases, engine guards, low-profile and high-profile seats, heated grips, hand guards, and more. Limited warranty for 12 months and unlimited miles. Suzuki Extended Protection gives you longer coverage periods and other perks (SEP).

Suzuki does not have the most peak power, but what sets it apart is how the engine delivers its power.

Reliable

Even though it’s old, that doesn’t mean it’s terrible. It’s a reliable platform with many aftermarkets.
