Kawasaki changes the face of Superbike with the 2021 Ninja ZX-10R and Ninja ZX-10RR

Kawasaki Factory has plunged into the depths of the Ninja ZX-10R and Ninja ZX-10RR for a new model and racing season, reflecting the Kawasaki racing team’s rigorous ninja development method and its evolution. I have taken another critical step.

Using team riders Jonathan Rhea and Alex Luz to test several ideas during a season that saw Rhea win the sixth consecutive World Championship, Kawasaki created an actual “race developed” for both 2021 Litter Class Ninja.

The objective word for aerodynamics is “downforce,” inserted into the modern integrated winglets cooling structure that connects the airstream and provides the additional downforce, which is about 17% larger than the current ninja machine. Similarly, the design of the rear seat has been changed to create a lower pressure zone behind the rider. The “next step” for the Aero and Ergonomic Package 2021 is just one of the World SBK’s innovations, when the 40 mm high screen, a handlebar position that mirrors Jonathan Rey’s race bike, and 5 mm high foot pegs.

A 1mm lower swing arm pivot point (which can be adjusted on the RR), a 2mm larger front fork offset, and an 8mm increase in the length of the original swing arm are included to improve the chassis, all contributing to better stability and traction. Spring rates have also been changed, with the front softening and the rear hardening, while the fork clamping area for the lower triple-clamp revised the balance of hardness for the outer fork tubes.

Engine

For 2021, the Ninja ZX-10R engine will receive several upgrades to provide lower emissions while maintaining the performance of its predecessors. The 998cc 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine has an excellent power-to-weight ratio. Peak Torque is located at a high point in the RPM range, which makes it easy for riders to pedal back with confidence, while a powerful low-mid-range range helps speed up the exit.

The construction of intake ports uses state-of-the-art machining technology, based on the input of Kawasaki’s Factory World SB team, in two steps to create a straight path for intake air to reach the combustion chamber.

Kawasaki World Superbike experts have developed a finger-follower valve train, which adds top-level racing technology to the Ninja ZX-10R chassis. The design of the valve train allows for more aggressive cam profiles and higher rpm range, which contributes to higher RPM performance. Finger followers have a Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) cover that protects them from wear.

The amount of titanium and the exhaust valves ensure high heat resistance and low mutual weight. Significant coolant passages in the cylinder contribute to the cooling performance for maximum efficiency, and the cylinder head provides many camshafts clears.

Electronics

With championship-proven technology back in 2021, the Ninja ZX-10R continues to guide the bike class. Kawasaki Cornering Management Function (KCMF), Bosch IMU, Sport-Kawasaki Traction Control (S-KTRC), Kawasaki Launch Control Mode (KLCM), Kawasaki Intelligent Anti-Lock Brake System (KIBS), Kawasaki Engine Brake Control (KWASK) ), Ohlins Electronic Steering Damper, and Power Modes. Integrated Riding Modes, Electronic Cruise Control, TFT Color Instrumentation, and Smartphone Connectivity are all new features for 2021.

Integrated Riding Modes

Riders can easily adjust traction control and power delivery so that all comprehensive modes that combine S-KTRC and power mode adapt to particular ride conditions. Riders can now choose from three preset settings (game, road, and rain) or four manual options (Rider 1-4). Each system can be adjusted separately in manual rider modes. Using the buttons on the left side of the handlebars, the riding mode can be changed during the 2021 ride.

Electronic Cruise Control

With the push of a button, Kawasaki’s cruise control technology allows you to maintain a certain speed. It eliminates the need to push the throttle once constantly activated, reduces the pressure of the right hand while riding and promotes a higher level of comfort. The electronic cruise control can be activated with the touch of a button and is easily handled with the left grip. The “+” and “-” buttons can change certain speeds. Disconnecting the system can be done in some ways, including completely cutting the brake lever, clutch lever, brake pedal, or throttle.

TFT Color Instrumentation

The high-tech, advanced form of the cockpit has been enhanced with a brand new compact 4.3 “all-digital TFT color device. The full-color display uses thin film transistor (TFT) technology to give the rider a high level of visibility. The screen’s background color can be set to black or white and match the amount of light available. The brightness of the screen changes automatically.

Two display options, in addition to scrollable multi-function windows, give riders the choice of how their information is presented.

Radiology the App

The integration of Bluetooth smartphone connectivity with Kawasaki’s Ninja ZX-10R motorbike is the first. The integrated chip in the instrument panel allows riders to connect wirelessly to their motorcycle. RIDEOLOGY The APP allows access, login and testing of various device functions, resulting in a better biking experience. The following data is available for viewing:

  1. Log riding
  2. It can be rerun for detailed login and evaluation.
  3. The route, distance, and time travel can be recorded for later reference.
  4. Ride conditions can be carefully documented.

Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS)

The Ninja ZX-10R has a dual-direction KQS, which adds to its excellent list of high-performance features. KQS enables extremely fast up-shift and down-shift without using a clutch, resulting in a more enjoyable driving experience and quicker lap time. The KQS is designed for more efficient sport riding but can also be used on the road at 2500 rpm.

Chassis

Chassis geometry updates complement the already well-received position of the Ninja ZX-10R, bring balance to the front and rear, and help improve cornering performance and light handling. The aluminum twin-spar frame follows a straight line from the head pipe to the aluminum swingarm pivot, resulting in more extraordinary linear performance and control.

For this year’s model, the swing arm pivot location has been reduced by 1 mm to improve the movement of the rear suspension as it exits the turn. A long wheelbase, achieved by a high fork offset and an 8mm long swing arm, adds to the already impressive overall stability of the Ninja ZX-10R.

Suspension

The modern Showa Balance Free Front Fork (BFF), developed using Kawasaki’s World SB factory racer technology, controls the front suspension. Ride comfort, braking stability, front feel, and freely adjustable compression and rebound damping are all features of the 43mm Showa Fork. The 2021 model features a newly designed lower triple clamp with a broader fork clamping area, as well as a modified stiffness balance for fork outer tubes, which improves handling and bending capacity. Low spring rate, stiff compression damping, and mild rebound damping are included in the new circuit-focused fork settings, which simplifies the weight of the front wheel and contributes to lighter handling.

Bodywork & Styling

The new appearance package for the Ninja ZX-10R was designed with aerodynamic performance in mind. The sleek, sharp design provides dramatically increased drag resistance, increased downforce, and superior protection from riding winds. A new aerodynamic top cowl enhances the motorcycle’s racing shape while reducing drag with a larger windscreen. The new LED headlights are hidden behind the upper cowl and are invisible to the rider. The LED bulb is flush installed and helps improve the aerodynamic performance of the cowl.

The RAM air intake, a Ninja Super Sport signature, has been redesigned to be more compact, and the cowl’s design guides the air toward the information for maximum performance.
