2021 Honda FourTrax Foreman Rubicon 4×4 Utility ATV Review Specs

Remember when something was described as riding like a truck? ATVs were the same way—after a few hours in the saddle, some of them left you quite banged up. The Honda FourTrax Rubicon, on the other hand, is all about working hard while providing a soft, pleasant ride because every Rubicon is equipped with Independent Rear Suspension (IRS), which offers smooth ride-all-day comfort. A single-cylinder 518cc engine, sturdy front and rear racks, an easy-to-use reverse mechanism, aggressive design, a convenient utility box, and more come standard on every Rubicon. With four models to choose from, it’s simple to find the perfect combination of features, such as Honda’s automatic DCT or a manual transmission with power steering. Is it as if it’s a truck? No way—like it’s riding on a Rubicon!

Performance

Every 2021 Foreman Rubicon model comes equipped with a powerful 518cc engine that delivers the horsepower and torque you need for outstanding performance. This power also improves its ability to climb hills. Bottom line: Whether for work or pleasure, this ATV never disappoints! The Rubicon’s inboard disc brake is tucked inboard and out of harm’s way, reducing unsprung weight and improving ground clearance.

Engineering

This single lever, available on our Automatic DCT versions, is handy and straightforward to use. It’s particularly beneficial when you have to go back and forth between forward and often reverse, such as while plowing snow.

The brand new Honda automatic dual-clutch transmission has it all, including a low range transmission, which is a Honda exclusive in an IRS machine. It also has strong internals, excellent control, smooth shift mapping, true compression-braking capability in steep terrain, and a fully automatic program that upshifts and downshifts while you concentrate on riding. Alternatively, choose a rugged conventional-type manual ATV gearbox.

Honda’s Electric Power Steering (EPS) is speed and torque-sensitive, and it excels at decreasing steering effort and kickback via the handlebar. When riding in ruts, over rocks, or up long side slopes, it’s a tremendous aid. The EPS unit’s strength and stiffness are increased thanks to a carefully designed mounting method.

The strong alternator provides enough energy thanks to the neodymium-magnet stator design, allowing you to operate more Honda Accessories.

Honda’s TraxLok® 2WD/4WD system provides two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive, and four-wheel drive with a locking front differential to improve traction. When the front differential is locked, TraxLok also has a Speed Override mode that increases wheel speed in extreme conditions such as deep mud. The engineers route the power flow straight to the wheels without any useless right-angle detours in our ATV and side-by-side engines by orienting the crankshaft front to back in the chassis, reducing powertrain friction putting more rumble to the ground.

Convenience

The Rubicon’s racks are strong steel and have a large flat area. Even better, they’re built to work with our Honda Pro-ConnectTM system. For added flexibility and convenience, you can quickly attach and detach accessories like our cargo boxes without using tools.

The Maintenance Minder system on the digital meter display alerts you when it’s time for service. Trip odometer, hour meter, fuel gauge, gear position indicator, clock, and 2WD/4WD are among the other features. Rubicon DCT models, like full-size four-wheel-drive trucks, have a drive/low range gearbox, allowing you to select the best gear for crawling over technical terrain, pulling heavy loads, or cruising on smoother trails. The perfect size for small items that riders want to access quickly—like a cell phone, GPS, or a spare pair of gloves. The parking brake lever on the Rubicon is mounted on the left handlebar and is strong, simple, and easy to operate.

Handling

Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) on the Rubicon provides two significant advantages: It does two things: first, it preserves the tires in contact with the ground for better traction, and it gives the rider a smooth ride over rough terrain so you don’t get hurt on the trail. Suspension performance can be optimized for various load conditions with adjustable preload shocks.

The Maxxis tires contain an aggressive tread pattern for excellent traction in mud, sand, and rocky terrain and are designed to work perfectly with the Rubicon’s Independent Rear Suspension. The driveshaft guards are another impressive example of how Honda engineers sweat the small details to give you one of the best ATVs on the planet. They’re designed to add even more coverage to the Rubicon’s front axles and outboard CV joints.

Comfort

The Rubicon’s seat contains thick foam and a textured seat cover for all-day riding comfort. It’s one of the most comfortable ATV seats we’ve ever designed.

Style

The Deluxe model has contrast-cut cast-aluminum wheels, painted bodywork, color-matched suspension, and bold graphic decals. This year, it’s also available in the sharp Matte Molasses Brown color (or Honda Phantom Camo®). Sure, the Rubicon is a rugged ATV, but no rule says it can’t also look good. The aggressive grille styling is a big part of the Rubicon’s strong presence.

Despite the scrapes and dings of the job or the woods, our Foreman Rubicon bodywork gives these ATVs a rugged look that’s built to last. Your Foreman Rubicon will make a bold statement with crisp lines, powerful graphics, and excellent color choices.

Versatility

Steel racks on the Rubicon are sporty and robust: The front rack has a weight capacity of 99 pounds, and the brand new rear frame has a weight capacity of 187 pounds. Multiple tie-down points also make securing your loads more accessible than ever. Do you have a difficult task to complete? No issue: the Rubicon is more than capable. The Rubicon can indeed haul a lot, with a towing capacity of nearly 1300 pounds.
