2021 Honda CB300R ABS Urban Bike Review Specs Price

Some bikes just hit the sweet spot: they’re light, have a lot of power, handle well, and are a lot of fun. Plus, they look just right. The 2021 Honda CB300R ABS Urban Bike is all about this. Since it doesn’t have a full fairing, you can see the entire engine and chassis hardware. We call the style Neo-Sports Cafe, but you’ll just think of it as the perfect bike for how you ride. And it has anti-lock brakes when things don’t go as planned. When you think about everything, the 2021 CB300R ABS is a great choice.

The CB300R ABS naked bike is back for 2021 with Honda’s Neo-Sports Cafe design in its lightest form. It promises both performance and a good way of life. It has good power and a small amount of unstrung weight. It handles well and stops well, thanks in part to the two-channel ABS and IMU that come standard. The minimalist style puts the weight in the middle of the car for the best handling, performance, and balance, and the exposed, blacked-out hardware and dramatic cutaway tail give it attitude. The CB300R ABS is the ultimate lightweight sport-naked bike. It has many of the same high-end features as its bigger-capacity siblings.

Design

Style is a deliberate simplification that shows off the machine’s blacked-out hardware. It’s also spotless and gives the lightweight naked-bike scene a hard-edged look. The cutaway tail unit is barely there, but it holds separate seats for the rider and passenger and the nylon mount for the rear mudguard. Rider and passenger foot-peg hangers are aluminum.

A thin, full-function LCD instrument display is light and easy to read. It shows speed, engine rpm, fuel level, shift light, and simple warning lights across the top. Full LED lighting, including turn signals, makes the car feel more expensive and helps keep the mass as close to the center as possible. The headlight has two light bars—one on top for low beam and one on the bottom for high beam—and the new taillight is the thinnest one Honda has ever put on a motorcycle. There are a lot of family genes, as the fuel tank has the same basic shape as the CB1000R.

Chassis / Suspension

The CB300R’s frame is made of high-tensile steel tubing and pressed steel, and it has the same Neo-Sports Cafe look as the CB1000R. The steel pivot plate is separate from the main frame, which helps the bike’s minimalist style. With this design, the rear wheel doesn’t stress the main frame between the head and seat rails. It lets each piece be made as solid and thin as possible, primarily by using thin steel pipe and steel sheets. Even though the main frame is strong, it is also light.

The swingarm has the same stiffness and performance benefits, with a thicker cross member and thinner walls as they get closer to the hollow rear axle for the best flexibility. The bike’s quick handling is helped by its lightweight aluminum wheels, the same as those on the rest of the CB line.

A 41 mm inverted fork with soft damping and a soft spring rate is replaced with a single shock that lets you change the spring preload in seven steps. A 49.6/50.4 of front/rear weight bias gives the front end a good feel for grip and easy steering. The low 317-pound wet weight and short 53.3-inch wheelbase also help. The seat is 31.5 inches high.

A 296 mm floating front brake rotor with a radial-mount Nissin four-piston caliper and a 220 mm rear disc with a single-piston caliper provide stopping power. Two-channel ABS controls both brakes through an inertial measurement unit (IMU) to give the precise front-to-back distribution of ABS operation based on how the vehicle moves. Standards are Dunlop radial tires that are 150/60R-17 in the back and 110/70R-17 in the front.

Parts near the vehicle’s edges are made to be light so that they can be handled quickly. Many heavier parts, like the engine, muffler, rear shock, battery, and ABS modules, are arranged to have an ideal center of gravity.

Engine / Drivetrain

The 286cc DOHC four-valve, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine of the CB300R (which it shares with the CBR300R) is a tiny jewel that has won many fans because it revs quickly and responds well. And while the free-spinning character can get your blood pumping when the revs go up, the engine also works well in real-world riding conditions, both in town and on the highway.

The bore and stroke are 76 mm and 63 mm, respectively, and the compression ratio is 10.7:1. With PGM-FI fuel injection, a 38 mm throttle bore, and a straight-shot intake path, the throttle response is sharp through the RPM range. The exhaust is under-slung, and its two-chamber muffler comes out on the right side. Less air resistance helps make the throttle response very linear.

The engine is also made with as few moving parts as possible. Details like low-friction piston rings, a high-density core radiator, and an iridium spark plug help the car use less gas. Partially because of the changes to save weight and the new air intake layout, the initial acceleration is exciting for all riders.

Performance

Compact Engine

The 286cc DOHC four-valve, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine in the CB300R is a jewel that runs smoothly and quickly. The engine also works well on the road, both in town and on the highway. It has plenty of power in both situations.

Fine-Tuned Intake and Exhaust

The intake and exhaust of the CB300R’s engine are made to reduce air resistance. It makes the throttle response more linear.

High-Revving Performance

The compression ratio is 10.7:1 and the bore and stroke are 76 x 63 mm. With a 38mm throttle bore and a smooth, straight-shot intake path, PGM-FI fuel injection gives a smooth throttle response through the rev range.

Under Slung Exhaust

The underslung exhaust on the CB300R has two chambers, and the outlet is on the right side. The high-flow design helps make the throttle response very linear.

Handling

Light, Strong Steel Chassis

The idea behind a Neo-Sports Cafe machine is that it should be easy to use, have a lot of power, and be comfortable for athletes. A good chassis is a key to excellent handling, which is why the CB300R has a unique frame that is light and strong.

Inverted Front Fork

The 41mm inverted fork on the CB300R makes for a smooth ride with soft damping. For a bike this size, the spring rate is just right.

Lightweight Aluminum Wheels

In a sport bike, the tires, wheels, and brakes are essential because they add weight that doesn’t move. The light aluminum wheels on the CB300R are a vital part of the bike’s quick handling. They also look great.

Lightweight Construction

Since it’s over 30-lb lighter than our 2020 CB300F model, the 2021 CB300R is more accessible to ride and more stable at stoplights and parking lots. Its curb weight is 317 pounds.

Style

Neo-Sports Cafe Style

Taking styling cues from our CB1000R, the CB300R is a modern street bike with a fresh, up-to-date look. Plus, it’s fun to ride because it’s light and the high seats.

Engineering

Standard ABS

Our Anti-Lock Braking System, which comes standard on the 2021 CB300R, can help when stopping in less-than-ideal conditions, like on wet pavement or other surfaces that aren’t as good. It’s a great choice whether you’re riding your new bike to work or just for fun because it gives you more confidence when stopping.

Blacked-Out Hardware

Check out the blacked-out hardware. Small details like this add to the traditional-meets-modern Neo-Sports Cafe style of the CB300R.

Efficient Design

The engine of the new 2021 Honda CB300R ABS Urban Bike is made with as few moving parts as possible. Details like low-friction piston rings, a high-density core radiator, and an iridium spark plug help the car use less gas. Because of the changes to save weight and the way the air comes in, the car is now 4 percent faster off the line.

LCD Instruments

The CB300R feels more expensive because it has a light, full-function LCD. It is 60% thinner than the ones that came before, and it shows you the engine’s rpm, speed, and fuel level.

LED Lighting Package

The CB300R is another excellent example of a classic design with a modern touch. It has an all-LED lighting package and a traditional round headlight lens. The LED taillight is the thinnest Honda has ever put on a bike.

Powerful Brakes

The Nissin four-piston radial-mount front brake caliper on the CB300R clamps down on a 296mm floating disc for the best stopping power.

Comfort

Comfortable Riding Position

The 31.5-inch seat height of the CB300R puts you in a sporty and active riding position. You can sit on it and see what’s happening around you, and you’re ready to react to the road right away, just like your bike.

Counterbalance Shaft

The CB300R engine runs smoothly because it has a counterbalance. You get the narrow width and power of a single with the smoothness of a bike with more than one cylinder.
