2021 DR-Z400SM Suzuki Super motos are built on the well-established DR-Z400S. As a result, it blends the Supermotard look and features in a compact, lightweight, street-legal package. This bike combines off-road spirit and enjoyment to concrete routes. Based on the successful DR-Z400S, Suzuki’s Supermotard model blends Supermotard styling and characteristics in a small, lightweight, street-legal package. The 398cc, DOHC, liquid-cooled, dry-sump engine is versatile and powerful, with push-button starting. SuperMoto has fully adjustable MX-style suspension and high-grip sportbike tires mounted on sturdy spoke wheels with anodized aluminum Excel rims. Solid Special White or Black The No. 2 bodywork, which has new angular graphics, complements the motorcycle’s design.

Engine

The 398cc, DOHC, liquid-cooled, dry-sump engine is lightweight and generates mighty, tractable power. The compact four-valve cylinder head comprises 36mm intake valves, 29mm exhaust valves, a short 28-degree included valve angle, and a valve adjustment mechanism with shims beneath the bucket—a lightweight starter motor with an automated mechanical decompression mechanism powers simple electric starting. SCEM-plated (nickel-silicon-phosphorus) cylinders are lighter and more durable than iron liners, and they have superior heat transmission qualities.

A forged aluminum piston is 10% more lightweight than a cast piston and benefits from increased oil cooling through a crankcase oil jet. The Mikuni 36mm carburetor, fed by a six-liter air box, has a deceleration enricher circuit to aid deliver a smooth throttle response while accelerating or stopping the engine. Quick-release bolts on the left side body cover allow for simple access to the air filter. Applying a PAIR (air supply) system to the exhaust assists the motorbike in meeting pollution regulations while maintaining performance. In traffic, a thermostatically regulated cooling fan installed on the left radiator aids in maintaining a steady working temperature. The lightweight clutch, magneto, and cylinder head coverings are magnesium alloy.

Transmission Features

A cable-operated clutch with a separate magnesium outer shell simplifies clutch maintenance in this compact five-speed gearbox. When cycling, the low-maintenance, long-life sealed O-ring drive chain makes very little noise.

Chassis Features

Sporty radial tires are mounted on wide black anodized RK Excel aluminum rims with stainless steel spokes: 120/70-R17 front and 140/70-R17 rear. A front disc brake with a massive 300mm floating-type rotor and dual-piston caliper, as well as a 240mm rear disc brake featuring a single-piston caliper, provide strong braking capability. Long travel Showa inverted front fork based on the RM250 with adjustable compression/rebound damping and a unique coating on inner tube surfaces for smooth movement.

The dry-sump engine oil tank is formed by the backbone tube, front down tube, and steering head gussets. A bolt-on aluminum subframe contributes to the trim rear fender look while reducing weight and simplifying maintenance. Front and rear axle sliders, and rotating mirrors, assist prevent against damage in the event of a tip-over. The tool kit, owner’s handbook, and other items are stored in a bag on the back fender.

Electrical Features

Speedometer, odometer, twin-trip meters with addition/subtraction capabilities, clock, and stopwatch features are all included in the compact digital instrument cluster. Bright 60/55-watt halogen headlamp, tiny tail/stoplight, lightweight, rubber-mounted turn signals, and horn are included in the on-road legal illumination. A little 6.5-amp, maintenance-free battery powers all electrical systems, including the easy-push button starter.
