2020 BMW R nineT Urban G/S Heritage Motorcycle – Features and Price
Character
The R nineT was more than a roadster based on a legendary role model when BMW Motorrad unveiled it in 2013. The R nineT has always merged traditional motorcycle design with cutting-edge technology and fine craftsmanship, as seen by the aluminum fuel tank with brushed side surfaces, for example.
The model also displayed the R nineT team’s meticulous attention to detail in some areas. The new R nineT, too, has this boutique manufacturing vibe, bolstered by a slew of enhanced features.
The new 2020 BMW R nineT Urban G/S Heritage Motorcycle has a distinctive look yet a timeless personality. For more than 35 years, the acronym GS has been almost synonymous with a sense of freedom and a desire to explore the world on two wheels, both on and off the beaten path.
The 2020 BMW R nineT Urban G/S Heritage Motorcycle takes the DNA of the renowned BMW R 80 G/S from 1980 and brings it into the present day with cutting-edge technology in the form of a traditional enduro-style BMW motorbike with a boxer engine.
The powerful, air/oil-cooled boxer engine with a size of 1 170 ccs and an output of 81 kW (110 hp) is mated with a 6-speed gearbox in both of the new BMW Heritage models. Both variations are designed to fulfill the EU4 pollutant class’s standards. Their stainless-steel exhaust systems, with the tailpipe on the left, evoke vintage aesthetics.
Chassis
Modular frame ideas give you a lot of freedom to customize the look and character of the two BMW boxer models to your liking, such as installing alternative seats from the BMW Motorrad accessory catalog.
As previously, the R nineT frame comprises four parts: a front main frame, a rear main frame, a brand new removable end piece, and a detachable passenger frame. The frame of the 2020 BMW R nineT Urban G/S Heritage Motorcycle is made up of three parts: a front and rear main frame having integrated end pieces, as well as a passenger frame.
Styling
A high-quality upside-down telescopic fork still handles Front-wheel control in the new R nineT, but it is now built as a completely adjustable component. The latest version of the R nineT has also optimized its suspension geometry to improve steering accuracy, directional stability, and cornering neutrality.
A traditional telescopic fork is used at the front of the 2020 BMW R nineT Urban G/S Heritage Motorcycle, while the BMW Paralever is used in combination with a central spring strut at the back, just like the R nineT.
The 2020 BMW R nineT Urban G/S Heritage Motorcycle now comes with wired-spoke wheels measuring 3.5 x 17 inches and 5.5 x 17 inches, respectively, with 120/70 ZR 17 front and 180/55 ZR 17 rear tires.
Combined with floating brake discs, radially mounted 4-piston Monoblock brake calipers guarantee sound, ABS-regulated deceleration.
Light alloy cast wheels are standard on the 2020 BMW R nineT Urban G/S Heritage Motorcycle. The enormous 19-inch front wheel and 120/70 ZR 19 tire complement the classic bike’s enduro-style appearance. A 17-inch wheel with a 170/60 ZR 17 tire is precisely matched at the back.
The new BMW boxer is available with deep-treaded off-road tires as an optional extra (standard trim: road tires) as well as filigree wired-spoke wheels.
A high-performance ABS braking system offers practical and steady deceleration with 4-piston brake calipers, steel-wrapped brake lines, and an all-new brake disc diameter of 320 mm.
The option of ASC (Automatic Stability Control), which is available as ex-works, can prevent the rear wheel from spinning on slick roads.
Style
The R nineT boasts the laid-back elegance and proportions of a classic BMW roadster in its new iteration. The R nineT is characterized by a combination of historic and modern motorcycle design components blended with high-quality surfaces from every viewpoint.
Previously, the R nineT’s instrument cluster had two circular gauges for the speedometer and engine speed display, which were flawlessly blended into the classic layout. Still, the new design now has two independent instrument casings for an even more spectacular look.
The 18-liter aluminum fuel tank with elaborately brushed side surfaces, the aluminum trim panel featuring an embossed 2020 BMW R nineT Urban G/S Heritage Motorcycle inscription that runs across the air intake duct on the right-hand side, and much more haven’t changed in the new edition of the R nineT in terms of its boutique manufacturing character. There are numerous details that fans will love.
While the R nineT’s classic character was almost perfectly conveyed with Black storm metallic combined including silver and metallic contrasts, the new 2020 BMW R nineT Urban G/S Heritage Motorcycle goes even further: to match the black-coated components such as the frame and engine housing, the paralever swinging arm and rear-wheel drive housing are now also finished in black.
For the first time, two unique paint treatments with boutique manufacturing characters are available as optional equipment items for the R nineT ex works. For the first time, BMW Motorrad has expanded its customizing options to include the field of painting.
The boutique manufacturing nature of the aluminum fuel tank in Black storm metallic/silver with a yellow application bearing the start number “21” is highlighted by the unique paint finish “Black storm metallic / Vintage.”
The latter is hand-applied and gives the bike a polished, worn appearance. A passenger pad and an aluminum hump seat are included with the model.
The second unique paint treatment, “Blueplanet metallic / Aluminum,” emphasizes the R nineT’s traditionally polished nature while adding a modern touch.
The center portion of the fuel tank and hump are finished in Blueplanet metallic with a golden border, based on the clear-finished aluminum fuel tank with ground weld seam and aluminum hump seat – both hand-brushed. The front mudguard is likewise painted in the Blueplanet metallic color.

When you look at the 2020 BMW R nineT Urban G/S Heritage Motorcycle, you’ll see that it’s practically a carbon copy of its ancestor, even down to the color scheme. The fuel tank and high-positioned front mudguard are finished in dazzling Light white non-metallic, as they were more than 35 years ago, with a matching headlight mask whose appearance is orientated towards the BMW G/S style that era.
The 2020 BMW R nineT Urban G/S Heritage Motorcycle boasts two-tone blue fuel tank ornamentation and a bright red two-person seat, as previously – a color combination that pays homage to BMW Motorsport colors from previous years. A black frame lends support to this evocation of bygone eras.
The instrument cluster has a speedometer disguised as an analog circular instrument, indication lamps, and a two-line LCD screen that matches the headlamp mask.
The 2020 BMW R nineT Urban G/S Heritage Motorcycle is further distinguished by high-end detailing. Numerous aluminum forged pieces, such as fork bridges and the clamp for the aluminum double-butted tubular handlebars, are among them.
The dual-section front mudguard is an exciting detail option for producing a traditional enduro appearance. The front splash guard is cleverly linked to the lower fork bridge, giving the bike a classic enduro look. In combination with a fork stabilizer, the rear splash guard is positioned just above the front wheel.
