The Ducati XDiavel is one of the powerful and aggressive looking bikes of Ducati brand. The new 2018 Ducati XDiavel Powerful Naked Bike is one of the best and impressive naked bikes that most people love. This bike is considered to be ideal for traveling and relaxing to the comfort of forward controlling. An all-new Ducati Testastretta DVT 1262 engine reconciles the two entirely different personalities of the XDiavel. The Ducati brand enters the Cruiser domain in its way by giving the correct Cruiser appearance with all the design, performance, and technology. The XDiavel gives two benefits to the rider, i.e., low-speed cruising experience and Italian styled refined engineering for aggressive riding experience.
The Ducati XDiavel Naked Motorcycle guarantees to have a low-speed excitement typical of the Cruiser and the adrenaline rush of sports bike riding that Ducati Motorcycle has made it is own. The “X” in the name represents the merging of two separate riding experience into one bike. There are three numbers, i.e., 5000, 60, and 40, which are the central concept behind the bike. The 5000 should be remembered as it is in the rpm that engine achieves at the maximum torque, i.e., 13.1 kgm. Moreover, at 2100 rpm, the motorcycle ensures the torque of over ten kgm with an extremely flat curve to rev-limiter. The engine remains the Ducati engine through and through with the maximum power of 156 hp and thrilling performance across the rev range. The number 60 is in the different ergonomics configuration for the rider. The Ducati XDiavel gives a full range of personalization, i.e., four different footrest positions and five separate seats and three different handlebars.
Furthermore, the passengers have two options to choose a place, i.e., regular seat and comfort seat with backrest. The 40 is the maximum attainable lean angle. The 2018 Ducati XDiavel Powerful Naked Bike is the first Ducati bike that contains belt-type final transmission. It gives silent running, cleanliness, low maintenance, and the fluid throttle response. The XDiavel is available in Dark Stealth with Mineral grey frame and wheels. The full review of Ducati 2018 XDiavel with its analysis and specifications are given below.
2018 Ducati XDiavel Powerful Naked Bike – Features and Specification
Engine
The 2018 Ducati XDiavel contains the twin-cylinder Ducati Testastretta DVT 1262 engine. It is the newly designed Euro 4 type-approved engine that comes with the Desmodromic Variable Timing DVT system. It was first used in Ducati Multistrada 1200, and it has been re-thought and recalibrated to put out the high torque even at the lower revs to ensure fluid and flat rpm power delivery. The engine has the maximum power of 156 hp at 9500 rpm and has a maximum torque of 13.1 kgm at 5000 rpm.
The DVT system indecently varies the timing of both the intake valve camshaft and the exhaust valve camshaft, thanks to the adoption of the valve timing adjuster applied at the end of each of the two overhead camshafts. The DVT system is divided into two distinct parts, i.e., an external part rigidity connected to the pulley driven by its timing belt with an internal one connected to the camshaft. The oil pressure is adjusted by using the dedicated valves, and the timing of each cam is controlled dynamically by the sensor in the cam covers.
The XDiavel’s engine comes with a displacement of 1262 cm3 with the bore to stroke of 106 mm and 71.5 mm, respectively. As compared to the Ducati Multistrada 1200 engine, the engine features the higher compression ratio, i.e., 13:1, however it has the same Bosch electronic injection system. The engine features elliptical throttle bodies with 56 mm of equivalent diameter and Ride-by-Wire system that has been recalibrated.
The top end of the engine has been given a thorough overhaul. The cylinder heads contain the frame attachments, and the horizontal one has been redesigned so that it supports the further-forward rider footpegs. The crankshaft includes the new balancing system that uses ground steel plates. The DVT contains the Dual Spark (DS) system comprising two plugs-per-cylinder and employs the secondary air system. The latter one introduces fresh air into the exhaust duct to complete oxidation of unburned hydrocarbons, and it reduces the level of pollutants, i.e., CO and HC, without compromising the engine performance.
Ducati has specially made an all-new engine valve closure system. Thanks to this system, the new intake and exhaust valves are closed with the same precision and similar technique.
The Ducati engineers work in close collaboration with the Style Center’s designers for repositioning of the water pump. This part is placed on an alternator cover on the left side of the engine. This solution involves complex pipe routing that covers the right part of the cylinder. On the XDiavel, the driver is designed to be the core feature of the bike. The water pump is now relocated to the “L” between the two cylinders.
Engineers and designers have striven to deliver as aesthetically clean as possible. An all-new water pump is driven by an auxiliary belt, which is powered by one of the timing belt pulleys. It has now been resized to improve on the performance of its predecessor. The flow has been optimized to guarantee a perfectly balanced coolant flow between the horizontal and vertical cylinders.
The Ducati 2018 XDiavel consists up of a 6-speed gearbox along with the same gear sensor that was seen in 1299 Panigale. The clutch is the oil bath type that includes slipper functions. The Ducati has used the belt drive for the first time in their bikes. The final 28/80 ratio corresponds to the drive ratio of 15/43. The new 2-in-1 exhaust system contains the chamber-type body and two tailpipes. The Exhaust pipe routing deliberately leaves the engine in view.
Design
The XDiavel Ducati features the long and modern lines with technologically advanced components. The Ducati designers were trying their best to come up with an attractive sketch that makes the motorcycle best for the long ride. The Ducati XDiavel is Cruisers on one side and naked bike on others. It is one of the best technocruiser that people love. The Ducati motorcycle comes with the proportions, detailing, and shape of all explicitly Cruiser.
The XDiavel contains the unique silhouette that captures the gaze and balances the wheels and brings out the beauty of the engine. The engine has been carefully designed down to the very last detailing. The overriding aim was to highlight the intra-cylinder ‘L,’ the hallmark of every Ducati. The overall layout is exquisite and clean. It is the result of the futuristic exaltation of mechanics and technology. The XDiavel has been designed element by element to ensure perfection. The frame is short and modern, and it is known as the classic Ducati Trellis frame. Its steel teardrop tank gives an outstanding view, and it retains the DNA of the Monster and the Diavel.
An all-new headlamp is a modern interpretation of classic Ducati Diavel lineup. It contains innovative DRL, which gives the bike immediate recognize-ability. The silencer and seat make an eye-catching view to the tail section, and it provides perfect harmony to the bike’s overall design. The painstaking work has been done on the XDiavel range with one specific color, i.e., black. It is applied differently to the standard and S versions. The XDiavel is matt black (Dark Stealth) covering the engine covers and belt covers.
Ergonomics
The riding position of the bike explains everything about the ride. That’s why the Ducati designers worked hard to develop an ideal riding position for riders. So, that rider can enjoy the long rides. The seat height is kept low, and the footrests are positioned forward to ensure perfect ergonomics.
Furthermore, the footpegs are adjustable in three different positions. However, those riders who prefer riding like a racier riding position, the Ducati Performance central footpegs kit is available as an optional feature. The cables and wires are routed inside the handlebars to make the appearance attractive. There is an optional seat open, which is a bit higher than the standard one.
Frame
The 2018 Ducati XDiavel contains the steel tubular Trellis frame that contains Ducati Testastretta DVT 1262 engine as its major chassis part. The frame is mounted to the driver at the two cylinder heads as the shell cast aluminum sub-frame. An all-new two forged aluminum plates have been attached to the engine that embraces the swingarm. The lower part of its swingarm is cast while its upper part comes with the formed removable part that allows the extraction of the transmission belt. Thanks to a wheelbase of 1615mm and agile chassis geometry, the bike can reach the lean angle of 40-degree on mixed-road, ensuring pure Ducati performance.
Suspension
The front section contains 50 mm Marzocchi fork with black anodized sleeves, including fully adjustable rebound and compression damping and spring preload. The damping compression and spring pre-load are present on the left fork tube while the rebound adjustment is located in the right container. An all-new cast aluminum slanted fork yokes with risers that support aluminum alloy handlebars of the diameter of 32 mm with external rubber-mounted cells having a diameter of 22 mm. The headstock rake of 30-degree and an offset of 130 mm the XDiavel gives an excellent front-end agility and feel while ensuring perfect handling.
The rear section contains Sachs mono-shock with adjustable spring preload and damping rebound. They have a separate reservoir. They are attached horizontally, and the shock absorber works in concert with progressive linkage.
Brakes
The front end of XDiavel ensures fantastic braking performance by using Brembo brakes with M4 32 radial Monobloc calipers. They are actuated by a PR18/19 radial brake pump containing an integrated aluminum reservoir. The calipers provide two 320 floating discs. The rear section has a 265 mm drive with 2-piston PF 30/32 calipers made by Brembo.
Tires and Wheels
The 2018 Ducati XDiavel Powerful Naked Bike contains 14-spoke wheels. The front section has a 3.5″ x 17″ wheel while the rear has 8″x17″. The front wheels carry 120/70 ZR17 tire with tread redesigned that maximizes wet weather performance. The rear tire of XDiavel is 240/45 ZR17. The motorcycle includes Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tires.
