Engine

The new 2017 Yamaha XSR900 Sports Heritage Bike features the thrilling engine of 847cc. It is a liquid-cooled inline 3-cylinder, DOHC, 4-valve-per-cylinder Cross-plane Crankshaft Concept engine based on an FZ-09. This engine features the compression ratio of 11.5:1 and bore and stroke of 78mm x 59.1mm. The compact motor gives the torque and quicker revving character of the engine. This new bike is equipped with the Yamaha’s Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) for accurate throttle control. The Yamaha’s selectable D-MODE allows the rider to adjust the engine character on the fly. There is also STD Mode, which is used to set the bike to accommodate the wide range of riding conditions. A Mode delivers the sportier throttle response in the low-to-mid-rpm range while the B Mode allows the rider to enjoy the softer throttle response. The Traction Control System allows the rider to gain more confidence by regulating its ignition timing, fuel injection and the opening of the throttle valve based on the speed of the wheel. There are three available modes: “Mode 1” is used for minimal intervention, “Mode 2” is for maximum intervention and an “OFF Mode” switches off the entire system. The motor uses the geared counter balancer that revolves in the opposite direction as a crankshaft to keep the vibration at the minimum level and for the smooth ride. Just like the super sports models, the new 2017 Yamaha XSR900 Sports Heritage Bike contains the fracture split connecting rods for ultimate performance. The fracture-split method splits the big-end ring of a connecting rod in the two by applying the sharp impact to create a perfect matching surface when it is bolted around a crankshaft. The intake funnels of the engine have been designed with the three uneven lengths just to achieve the potent mid-range torque and unique intake sound. This design is combined with the YCC-T system to give an ideal thrust for street riding. This motorcycle uses the 6-speed transmission that takes full advantage of the low-to-mid-range torque and an excellent response of an inline triple while enhancing the narrow 3-cylinder design. The new 2017 Yamaha XSR900 Sports Heritage Bike features an advanced assist-and-slipper clutch unit for greater clamping force and back-torque reduction. It uses the lighter clutch springs to reduce the clutch lever effort by 20 % plus to minimize the rear-wheel hop under an aggressive deceleration.

It consists up of paired floating 298 mm of discs with the radially mounted 4-piston calipers and the rear disc of 245 mm. The new ABS works to prevent the wheel lock under the hard deceleration. The lightweight 10-spokes cast aluminum wheels are fitted with the front tire of 120/70ZR17 and a rear tire of 180/55ZR17 for maximum traction.
